New York Botanical Garden

The spectacular New York Botanical Garden is one of the largest botanical gardens in the world

A 250 acre urban Eden in the Bronx, the New York Botanical Garden is the one of the world's leading horticultural and educational resources. One of the largest and oldest botanical gardens in the world, the National Landmark site's 50 specialty garden and plant collections are comprised of more than one million plants set amid a landscape of 40 acres of old growth forest punctuated by dramatic rock formations, waterfalls, ponds and wetlands.

Visitors to the New York Botanical Garden's be captivated by the 2,700 aromatic specimens of rose in Peggy Rockefeller's Rose Garden or can relax by the cascades and enjoy thousands of delicate alpine flowers in the T.H. Everett Rock Garden. The centrepiece of the New York Botanical Garden is the exquisite Haupt Conservatory, a Victorian style glasshouse featuring several permanent exhibitions and two galleries dedicated to seasonal flower shows, including the world famous Orchid Show held annually in March and April. With exhibits dedicated to native plants, annuals, perennials, bulbs, orchids, daylilies, irises, peonies, tulips, daffodils and many more, there is a garden for all seasons and tastes to be enjoyed.

Little ones will enjoy the Everett Children's Adventure Garden, a 12 acre indoor-outdoor interactive centre with a giant animal topiaries, boulder maze and a hands-on plant discover centre. The Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden provides educational sessions teaching techniques to plant, cultivate and harvest flowers and vegetables. Beth's Maze, a 900 square foot labyrinth of hedges offers a challenge for kids of all ages.

Take the B, D, or 4 train to Bedford Park Blvd Station then walk downhill (southeast) eight blocks to the end of Bedford Park Blvd and turn left on Kazimiroff Blvd for one block, arriving at the entrance (15 minutes). Alternately you can take the BX26 bus from Bedford Park Blvd Station to the garden entrance.
