Queens
The borough of Queens is home to many ethnic neighbourhoods and offers a wide range of things to see and do
New York's most ethnically diverse borough, Queens is located on the western tip of Long Island and is considered one of the more suburban boroughs in New York City. Home to the New York Mets' Citi Field, US Open Tennis Tournament and the Aqueduct Racetrack, there are many reasons to visit. The Unisphere, a giant steel globe constructed for the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows Park is an iconic symbol of Queens and its diversity.
Long Island City offers the artistic side of Queens with the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, The Noguchi Museum, Museum of the Moving Image and Socrates Sculpture Park. The historic neighbourhood of Ridgewood is home to almost 3,000 landmark buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and is the largest historic district in the United States. The streets of Jackson Heights are known as Little India, home to some of the best curries in New York City and a Bollywood movie theatre. Astoria is the foodie heaven of Queens with more high-quality restaurants, bakeries and markets than anywhere and an up and coming nightlife scene. Jamaica is the heart of Queens with fantastic shopping opportunities and transit links to the rest of the borough.
There's tons to see and do in Queens: strolling through the historic homes of Tudor Hill Gardens, visiting the Queens Museum of Art or Queens Zoo, spending a day at the Rockaway beaches, fishing at Gantry Plaza State Park, bike along the Cross Island Parkway, riding the carousel in Forest Park, play mini-golf at the New York Hall of Science, tour the tunnels at Fort Totten or enjoy a treat at the Lemon Ice King of Corona.
