Deep Cove
Not many tourists make it out to this Vancouver Gem. For those who do it's well worth the effort
Scenic and enticing, Deep Cove is located in the eastern edge of North Vancouver near the base of Mount Seymour. It was originally named Deepwater which pertained to both the village, and the little bay beside it.
Deep Cove, or the Cove as the locals say, is a waterfront area offering spectacular views. It's situated about 30 minutes or 13 kilometres northeast of downtown Vancouver. There are many recreational actives to enjoy in the village and its surrounding beach and park. These include swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, hiking, cycling, shopping, cafes, restaurants, picnicking, or test tasting ale from their local brewers. Visitors can rent canoes or kayaks from the Deep Cove Canoe and Kayak centre.
One popular short hike with an outstanding view is Quarry Rock, sometimes referred to as Grey Rock lookout. The 1.6 kilometre trail starts just beyond the park on Panorama Drive. At the beginning of the trail you ascend quickly up wooden stairs, next going up and over an entanglement of tree roots. Keep following the trail which levels off and leads you over a small wooden bridge. Eventually, after about a half hour of walking, you descend down to a larger wooden bridge. Once you've crossed it, continue up the wooden stairs. Continue following the trail while taking in the freshly scented forest grounds and several little creeks that lead you to a fork in the path. Take the right fork that leads to a clearing and up onto solid rock. You are now at the Quarry Rock lookout. Sit, rest and drink in the gorgeous panoramic views that are offered here from the high crag that overlooks Indian Arm.
One of many popular attractions in Deep Cove is Maplewood Farm. This attraction is operated by the Northern Vancouver District. It offers rides, self guided tours and introduces and educates you in farming and caring for farm animals.
Panorama Park in Deep Cove has great sheltered barbecuing and picnicking spots, however, if you would prefer to eat out, there are many nearby restaurants offering a wide variety in foods, both dine in or take-out, such as fish n chips, pizza, ice cream, Japanese foods, doughnuts, homemade cooking and more.

Great place to rest between bike rides or after a hike, or just enjoy the views. Lots of space on the lawns, with benches spread out.

Nice little park with a view. A small playground with a great big slide.

All-time favorite place doesn't matter the weather, just in front of the inlet. You can do a lot of activities around here. Hiking, picnic, kayaking, or even just relaxing. Famous query rock 🪨 close by for a short, well marked trail for further amazing view from the top. There are benches almost every corner for resting your feet and enjoying the stunning view of the deep cove.
Few local shops, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. in the neighborhood.
They've done nice landscaping and gardening around the docks. There is also a boat rental place. You can rent a kayak or boat from there and enjoy the view from the different angels or even go to the other side of the inlet to belcarra picnic area or even further towards Indian Arms if your heart desires.
Parking is a bit of a pickle. The main parking is always full. It's just behind the park, free for 3 hours. There is an overflow parking on the south side of the park further down the road on the right side, and some free street parking is also available along that stretch. On the pick time, it is still very difficult to find a spot.
It's a must visit place if you live in or visit Vancouver. Never disappoints and highly recommended!
