Downtown hotels, in particular, tend to charge high parking fees. Rates sometimes exceed $50 per night (ouch), so if you are driving to Boston, you’ll save more staying in the outskirts where parking is often free. From there you can take the train into the city centre and leave the hassle of driving and parking in an unfamiliar city behind.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a better location for exploring Boston than the 3 Star Charlesmark Hotel. This small boutique hotel is popular, so you must book way in advance to get a room, especially if you want a good deal. If you do, you’ll be rewarded with great value for your money. The Charlesmark is located in the Back Bay district, right around the corner from Copley Station. It’s across from the historic Boston Public Library and just up from Copley Square, a great area where you’ll find yourself surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, an abundance of great shopping and dining and nightlife. You can walk into the heart of downtown in just 20 minutes or take light rail and you’re there in five.

Boston Marriott Quincy is one of our best value picks. Rates aren’t always cheap, but if, you book well ahead good deals are available. You could posssibly save up to 50% compared to similar accommodations downtown. This is a well appointed hotel backed by the Marriot name and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including an indoor swimming pool, spa and exercise room. It’s about a 20 minute walk from Quincy Adams Station on the Red Line, a bit on the far side, but still doable. We wouldn’t recommend it in the winter unless you are prepared to take a taxi between the hotel and the station. Even if you do that, it is less expensive that taking a taxi all the way day downtown. The train ride into downtown Boston takes just over 30 minutes, varying a little according to the time of day.

This hotel is perfect for visitors wanting to explore Boston. It’s just a 3 minute walk through the park or take their free shuttle service to Airport Station on the Blue ’T’. Save money preparing light meals with the help an in room microwave and fridge. Don’t worry about breakfast. It’s included. Rooms are spacious. The thing with this hotel is, like most accommodation in Boston, it can be on the pricey side, but, good deals are available, especially if you book far enough ahead. Embassy Suites has all the amenities most people want including a year round indoor pool, hot tub and a fitness centre.

It is just a 9 minute walk to Andrew Station on the Red-T which will give you quick access to the rest of the city including downtown Boston. Its location right behind the huge South Bay shopping centre makes it perfect for shopping. Another bonus, if you are driving to Boston, the Holiday Inn Express is one of only a few decent hotels offering free parking to their guests, significant savings considering downtown hotels charge up to $50 a night for parking. If you are happy with good, basic accommodations as your base, this can save you quite a bit compared to similar hotels closer to downtown.

Compared to the Holiday Inn Express listed above, the Courtyard Boston by Marriot located right next door has an extra star in their rating, probably due to the indoor pool and hot-tub. They also receive slightly better overall reviews. For those reasons, this property is also a good contender even though the rates are usually a bit higher. Free parking is available, but you must reserve it in advance. Access to the subway is the same as the Holiday Inn above.

A Friendly Inn At Harvard is a homey guesthouse located near Harvard University in Cambridge. This beautiful guesthouse has comfortable rooms with private baths and a free breakfast. Subway access is a pleasant 10 minute walk through the grounds of Harvard Yard with its many beautiful old buildings and attractions. You’ll be steps away from three famous Harvard Museums: The Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. Outside that, this is a vibrant and lively area with some nice parks! You could get a pretty decent deal (for Boston) on a room if you book far enough ahead. If you’d prefer something closer to the city centre, Boston’s already high hotel rates start to climb. However, if you are staying for a weekend, you may get a good deal at the Hilton Doubletree, as it is popular with business travellers resulting in lower weekend occupancy. This hotel puts you right in the Theatre District and just a brief walk from The Boston Commons and Chinatown. You can walk pretty much anywhere in Downtown Boston from this location. You’re also just steps from Tufts Medical Center Station on the Orange Line and the train ride into the city centre is only a few minutes. Other than that, you can count on the high standards of service and cleanliness that the Hilton brand has always been known for. Note: Parking is expensive here, so this may not the best choice if you are bringing your car into the city.

It is just a 10 minute walk from Assembly Station on the Orange ’T’ and from there it is just a 10 minute train ride into the city centre. If you are driving to Boston you’ll appreciate the free parking. Every room has a fridge and a coffee maker and rates include a continental breakfast, all helping to save your money. A shopping centre and plenty of dining options are in the immediate area and LegoLand is also just a short walk from the hotel.

This fine hotel is just steps away from the Boston Commons, many beautiful historic buildings, including the renowned Faneuil Hall. Shopping, dining and nightlife galore are in the immediate area. Subway stations serving 4 different lines are within a short walk making it easy to get anywhere on the ’T’. So, what’s the catch. Well, a room here can be expensive, but sometimes they are on sale. Prices vary by a significant margin between different booking sites, so be sure to compare them on our Hotelfinder. You just might get a great deal. This highly rated, clean and modern hotel is conveniently located right above North Station for easy access to both the Green and Orange T subway line. It is located in a major hub of shopping, entertainment and dining. You will enjoy the view from your room through the wall to wall windows. All of the rooms are equipped with a small refridgerator. Breakfast is available and is included in some, but not in all room rates, so take that into consideration when booking your room. This is a smoke free property.
