The best dim sum in Toronto. They have some unique tea leaves to choose from compare to other dim sum place. Dim sum were refined. I like all of them except the milk tart was a bit different than what they have described, they said it's a dragonfruit milk tart, but we couldn't taste the dragonfruit, i think it's only for the color. Overall we had a very nice experience at Lai Wah Heen and we will definitely come back for dim sum and dinner.

The newly revamped Lai Wah Heen is quite the experience. The interior is beautiful and upscale. Food is delicious with a modern flare. Food has wonderful presentation, and is very aesthetic while also still being delicious. My favourite dish had to the lobster mapo tofu, I'm normally not a tofu fan, but this was just amazing. Cocktails are a must too. The dining experience is worth every penny! Would highly recommend.

I came here for lunch and this place is reservation only. Before coming, I read a lot of reviews mentioning that their prices were quite high, but I still wanted to give it a try.
The restaurant’s decor is beautiful, but unfortunately, we were seated in a corner where we couldn’t really enjoy the overall ambiance. We actually preferred to sit in the open area, and I noticed there were empty tables available. I’m not sure why the hostess placed us where she did, but I didn’t bother to ask or complain.
Once seated, we were greeted by the manager, who was very friendly and welcoming. He introduced us to a few dishes and explained that their two chefs come from five-star hotels in Guangzhou, China. That got us excited, so we ordered quite a few items.
Beforehand, I had seen menus posted by other guests and noticed the prices were high. But to my surprise, the prices have since been adjusted and are now much more reasonable—especially for Lai Wah Heen.
Also, parking is free as long as you inform the reception, which is a nice bonus, especially in a downtown location.
Now, onto the food:
My personal favorite was the pan-fried turnip cake—very well done.
The xiao long bao was tasty too, although the presentation could use a bit of improvement.
The AAA beef short ribs came out warm but were very chewy, so I wouldn’t recommend them.
The steamed pork ribs with mini pumpkin had a nice presentation, but I wish it had more sauce, as most of it soaked into the pumpkin.
The lotus sticky rice with abalone came with plenty of dried scallops, which was great, but I would’ve liked more gravy inside—similar to what I’ve had elsewhere.
The beef ball was just okay, and the beef rice roll was average.
The glutinous rice dumpling had good flavor, but I found the truffle a bit overpowering.
One suggestion: the menu could use more flavor variety. Several dishes featured truffle, which made it feel a bit repetitive.
Service-wise, the staff could use a little more training. The hostess didn’t ask where we preferred to sit, and when I asked for chili oil, the server brought chili paste instead and told me they didn’t have any. Later, the manager clarified that they actually do have a house-made chili oil. It’s a minor issue, especially since they’re still in soft opening.
In conclusion, I’d give this experience a 3.75 out of 5, and I’ll definitely return. I’m also interested in trying their dinner menu—especially since their other chef also comes from a five-star hotel—and see their dishes have any wok hei. I’ll likely wait until they’ve had more time to fine-tune everything.

Review of Lai Wah Heen (New Ownership) July 2025
Lai Wah Heen’s stunning makeover is undeniably its strongest feature. With plush banquettes, elegant lines, and three private dining rooms, the space radiates excellence. Our server Tim was attentive and kind, doing his best to accommodate us. Madison offered to give us a tour of the newly designed space, though sadly never circled back. We were the only guests there for our early Saturday dinner, which made the lack of follow-through even more glaring.
The food was a mixed bag. We truly enjoyed the delicate spinach soup (though it was missing morels)($19) and the crispy black cod croquettes ($37). The Hunan heritage pork belly ($35) was our highlight. Both cocktails: the melon margarita ($24) and the Initiation (served in a teacup) ($22) were creative. But the poached choy sum ($31) was unremarkable, and the $43 Peking duck fried rice was a total letdown: bland, missing premium ingredients, and completely devoid of wok hei.
Service also fell short of the fine dining standard. Despite flagging that we had a show to catch, the pacing of the meal was slow, and we ended up late. Dishes were dropped off family-style with no plating assistance, at odds with the refined Chinese style, and soup was initially placed in front of just one guest at the table. For a $238+tip bill, the food and experience felt light. They did offer us a complementary pot of jasmine tea at the end and we were able to change it to chrysanthemum.
The washroom was not clean and the floor was sticky.
Tim asked for feedback, and we offered it honestly. Hopefully the ownership and kitchen leadership take it seriously. For now, the restaurant is not delivering a fine dining experience; it’s an upscale room with nice service and uneven execution in the kitchen. Unfortunately, at these prices for a la carte dinner, we won't be rushing back.

A truly elegant dining experience in Dt. The ambiance is stunning — modern, serene, and thoughtfully designed. The staff are incredibly professional, warm, and attentive without being intrusive. Perfect spot for a relaxed and upscale night out. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Karine I hope you add your lovely restaurant to Uber Eats soon, I would order it every single day!! The location is too sketchy with weird characters around. However, this is literally the best brunch restaurant in the city! The true meaning of “hidden gem”

For $7, you get an english muffin breakfast sandwich and fresh fruit. Not bad at all! The food tastes simple and homemade and was delicious. The lady working there (who owns it maybe?) is so sweet and lovely.
It’s a little place in the Grange village food court. Definitely worth a visit!

The food here is so yummy and fresh. The lady working here is the sweetest and treated us so well. We had a tuna melt and mushroom melt. They were both really filling and the fruit was so fresh. We were so full afterwards.
Such a great place!

We walked in what looked like a food court so at first we weren't sure. Breakfast was great! The lady who took our orders, was so cheery! It was refreshing. Breakfast was served on real plates, coffee in paper cups. Brought to our table was a bottle of delicious fruited water. Highly recommend!

One of the first Chinese Hakka restaurants in downtown Toronto, and it truly delivers!
We ordered the beef fried rice, chili chicken on a sizzling skillet, and fried calamari. Everything was delicious. The chili chicken had that perfect Hakka-style spice and came out sizzling hot, the beef fried rice was flavorful and well-portioned, and the calamari was crispy without being greasy. On top of that, the service was fast and friendly. I’ll definitely be back anytime I’m in the heart of downtown Toronto.

I have a ton of respect for the family-owned business and their story, and want to see local businesses succeed. I think if you're looking for some food that's going to fill your belly for ~$20, then this is perfect for you.
In my opinion, the food is okay. Stopped in on a Wednesday and decided to try the Wednesday special which comes with an egg roll, pop, and Manchurian chicken. The egg roll feels like it's a Costco egg roll - it actually tastes exactly the same as the frozen ones my family used to buy growing up. And the Manchurian chicken, like some of the other dishes here (I've had the chili chicken in the past) comes drenched in sauce that for me feels like it has too much corn starch.
But, the people here are nice and the place seems pretty busy, so maybe it's just not for me! I will say the meat portion is generous.

I came here many years ago (before the pandemic) and I was blown away by the pork belly
I finally got the chance to come back again for my mom's birthday for lunch. I am STILL amazed by the food here. The pork belly was still extraordinary! The chilli chicken here has a flavour that tastes authentic. It's the best chilli chicken in Toronto.
I know that they brought this cuisine over here and you can really tell that it can't be duplicated!
The service was very friendly and helpful. Everyone is really nice and the atmosphere is calm and spacious. I love this place so much! Thank you for sticking around

I've been here several times and their food is consistently delicious. I always appreciate consistency in a restaurant. I've tried several items on their menu like their chilli beef chow mein, Manchurian chicken chow mein and chilli chicken in rice. All of them were packed with amazing flavor. The staff is really helpful and friendly, always attentive. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who's downtown and craving some Hakka food. I would even go as far as to say that this is probably the number one Hakka joint downtown. I just wish they were open later on Friday and Saturday.

Sin & Redemption has a nice vibe and the service was genuinely good — the staff was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is also enjoyable for a night out. However, I found the prices a bit too high for what was offered. The food didn’t quite meet my expectations, and overall, it didn’t feel worth the price. While the place has potential, the quality of the dishes doesn’t match the cost.

Fantastic Belgian & German Bar with Top-Notch Beer Selection
If you’re into Belgian and German beers, this place is a must-visit. The beer list is incredible—both on tap and in bottles—featuring a wide range of classic and hard-to-find brews from Belgium and Germany. Whether you’re a fan of rich Trappist ales or crisp German lagers, you’ll find something to love.
The food is solid, with a menu that complements the beer perfectly. Don’t miss the schnitzels—they’re crispy, flavorful, and generously portioned. A great spot for both beer enthusiasts and anyone looking for a cozy, authentic European vibe. Highly recommend!

Had a lovely chill evening sitting at the bar. The place is quite large and comfortable. I did not have a meal so can't comment on the food though the dishes that were served to nearby tables smelled really good. The servers were all pleasant, the bar man was great, my only complaint was my martini glass could be filled up more! I recommend this place.

Japango was absolutely amazing!! We went around 7pm and there was no wait for a table but be aware they have limited seating about 7 tables. We waited a bit for our food and the server came over with free edamame for us due to the wait but it was definitely worth it! The sushi was amazing we also ordered the Takoyaki Balls which were delicious as well! For 2 people we got the 4B and 5A and it was very filling! We also got the blue fin tuna belly which basically melted in your mouth! Will be back soon!
Ontario Reviewer - 2 weeks ago
I recently visited Japango, a sushi restaurant that offers customers with promotions like free salmon sashimi and appetizers for leaving Google reviews. While that might explain the abundance of five-star ratings, I chose to try it without any incentives.
I ordered the sashimi platter, and I must say, the fish was very fresh, and the rice was beautifully seasoned. However, the presentation left much to be desired; it felt cluttered, making it difficult to distinguish between different types of fish. A larger bowl or plate would definitely enhance the visual appeal.
Additionally, I’m not a fan of blow-torched sushi, as some of the sashimi had an unpleasant burnt taste, including the egg tomago, which was also torched on the edges.
Overall, I would consider Japango an average sushi restaurant. It has potential, but a few adjustments in presentation and cooking techniques would make a difference.
KEN K - 3 weeks ago
By far, the best sushi in downtown. Their vibe is exactly I get in Japan. Very authentic. Perfect sushi rice, fresh ingredients, nice condiments, stunning presentation, cozy atmosphere. Very affordable for the quality I get. I can not emphasize enough, this place nails it!
Noriko Miyamura - 4 weeks ago
Japango is about a 3.5-star spot for me. Sometimes the sushi is excellent — fresh, great texture, and full of flavour. Other times, it disappoints and feels just okay.
It’s tiny inside with only a few seats, so it’s mainly a take-out spot. They’re quick — orders are usually ready within 15 minutes.
Prices are above average, so I expect top quality every time — which doesn’t always happen. Still, I keep coming back for the good days.

This was my first visit to Japango, a cozy Japanese sushi restaurant, and it left a great impression! My friend and I ordered the Sashimi Dinner Set (with rice and miso soup) and the Tempura Udon Set. The sashimi was a standout—featuring tuna, salmon, butterfish, black seabream, and BC albacore, it was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. Each piece had a distinct, delicate flavor that made every bite memorable. My friend raved about the tempura, which was perfectly crispy and fresh, though the portion felt a bit small compared to the generous sashimi set. The restaurant is compact, with tightly packed seating, which can feel a bit cramped, but the warm atmosphere and attentive service made up for it. Overall, Japango is a gem for sushi lovers—highly recommend giving it a try!

Visited this very fine Indian restaurant on a Saturday for their lunch buffet. The restaurant quickly filled with ethnic Indians who knew this place had amazing Indian food, friendly staff, and welcoming service. The host continuously checked on us and encouraged us to try more but we were quickly full. The quality and quantity of the dishes we sampled were all generous and outstanding. The goat curry had huge pieces of goat, the tandoori chicken was succulent, and the paneer was homemade and absolutely amazing. We tried a little of everything (see pictures) and wished we could eat more. This is a great Indian restaurant and we'll be back.

We went there on 7th Feb for winterlicios and trust me they had a huge menu. No one in the city give so many options for Winterlicios. Each dish was finger licking good. We had chicken 65 for starters. For mains we had Shrimp Malabar curry and chicken Tikka masala. They gave Chole, rice, naan along with the mains. We were so satisfied. We also met mamun who was so helpful there. He explained each dish and made sure we had no issues with our order. Mamun was also a very popular football player of Bangladesh, we were so delighted to meet him. Thank you for the amazing food and wonderful service. Will be definitely coming back 👍

My wife really enjoys the coffee and sandwiches here. I’m not a coffee drinker myself and just hang out. One time I got caught in bad phone conversation while in the shop and tried to end it asap. The quality of the food was excellent-our attendees really enjoyed the variety, both in taste and in health-conscious options. What stood out most was how mindful and intentional the team was when it came to dietary and allergy requirements. They worked closely with us throughout the process, staying on top of updates to the menu and guest numbers. Truly great partners from start to finish. I’ve been to Don Don several times now, and this is a place that I think of for having drinks and some food in a vibey place. I like the music they play too, which is a mix of Western Hip-Hop and also Japanese hits. They play some curated throwback music.
The staff are friendly, but the culture seems to be more that you have to wave them down rather than them checking on you. They’re otherwise focusing on their own tasks it seems like.
The ‘Dice Challenge’ has been a consistent feature of theirs: $9.5 a try, you drink what you roll, and the higher the number the higher the value of the drink. Getting one and one is a glass of coke, and the highest seems to be a $30 sake shot.
They have other fun drinking options, like a bunch of sake flights, a Sake Bomb contest, and this Polar Beer that’s a Sapporo topped with subzero beer slush.
The food is decent, but wouldn’t say it’s the highlight. The chicken karaage has a nice crispy texture on the exterior and good seasoning. The sushi is not the best, but it’s decent.

I visited a while ago, but I wanted to take a moment to leave this review. It was a wonderful experience, featuring beautiful decorations and excellent food. I tried plum wine, sake tasting, and black sesame ice cream for the first time. The sushi was authentic Japanese, the beef tataki was absolutely good and the fried chicken was incredibly crispy. The show with the salmon was quite intriguing as well. My favorite part was the Taiko drum performance whenever someone arrived.

When you walk up the bleak hallway, you are instantly transported to a lively atmosphere! I loved the decor and the vibes of the place.
I will have to say that we had issues with the ordering system and our food didn’t get put through. The service was very lax and slow, and we had to flag someone down in order to get water. I got the beer that I’ve ordered.
I’ve never been to an izakaya before so perhaps that’s the expectation, but other customers had water offered to them.
I enjoyed the sushi and the eclectic bowls of snacks. If you come and order in time, they have some happy hour specials which were a great deal.

Really delicious and filling Ramen, with a cute shop and charming service. The waitress was really sweet :)
I liked how they asked for the firmness of the noodles. I like mine chewy and it definitely was!
The simple combo (12$) is greatly underrated as it comes with a little rice bowl and a simple Ramen. (Pictured below) Very filling and the cheapest Ramen on the menu!
Only thing is the prices can be expensive but I feel that's just typical Ramen restaurants these days. I got the tomato Ramen which was 17$ w/o tax & tip

I discovered this place a long time ago through Reels, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The ramen broth is incredibly rich, the noodles are firm and chewy, and the toppings are generous. I also recommend trying the fried chicken appetizer—it’s perfectly crispy and really tasty.
The restaurant is clean and well-kept. Aside from the slightly narrow staircase leading downstairs, there’s nothing to complain about. Overall, I highly recommend this spot!

We ducked into this Sensotei location for a quick bite and we left with our hunger fully and pleasantly sated.
The service was friendly and super efficient. The appetizers and main meals appeared very, very quickly. The gyoza was well pan-fried and tasty. The fried chicken pieces were tender and cooked just right. They were light and flavourful.
The two ramen dishes we ordered were just right, and they certainly hit the spot and took care of the ramen cravings.

Easily one of my favourite ramen spots. The Miso Black was delicious. First came here in 2018 and was excited to return in 2025. It lived up to the memory once again!
