5 Star Rating Lai Wah Heen is a long‑respected Cantonese restaurant in downtown Toronto, known for its refined dim sum and elegant dining style. It first opened in 1995 and quickly earned praise for its high‑quality dishes. After a period of closure, the restaurant has been refreshed and reopened in the same location inside the DoubleTree by Hilton, with a modern, upscale look that still feels warm and inviting. The menu focuses on traditional Cantonese flavours made with great care and premium ingredients. The beautifully prepared dim sum is very popular, but the full menu also offers many classic dishes with thoughtful presentation. It offers both à la carte and Tasting menu. We ordered “Special Her al Tea Pot”, “Scallop & Shrimp Dumplings”, “Free Run Chicken” and finished on a sweet note with “Fresh Milk Tart”. The food was fresh and tasty and beautifully served. The staff are attentive and friendly. The restaurant has a warm and cozy atmosphere.

5 Star Rating We had an amazing time at Lai Wah Heen. We ordered the general tso chicken and peeking duck friend rice. Loved the crispy elements on both dishes and the fried rice was really good the smoky flavours were delicious. The drinks we ordered were also good. Not great some pairings didn’t really go super well together. But the food more than made up for it. The service was exceptional and the ambience was amazing. Everything was clean and I loved the little touches to elevate our experience. Seating was spacious and I really appreciated that! Excited to come back and try more of their food!

5 Star Rating We had an incredible dining experience here! Every dish we tried was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The Siu Mai with Uni was a luxurious twist on a classic with the uni adding a rich buttery depth to the dumplings. The Peking Duck Fried Rice was perfectly seasoned with tender pieces of duck and a satisfying balance of textures. The Scallop & Prawn Dumplings (Koi Dumplings) were delicate and flavourful, a real standout. The Guangzhou Chow Mein featured perfectly crispy egg noodles paired with a rich savoury sauce while the Gon Chau Ngo Ho was expertly stir fried with wok hei giving the noodles a smoky authentic Cantonese flavour. From start to finish, the service was attentive and the atmosphere inviting making it the perfect spot to savour top quality Cantonese cuisine. Definitely a must visit for anyone looking to enjoy both classic favourites and unique dishes done exceptionally well.

4 Star Rating Lwh is a high end dimsum restaurant. Dim sum is not just food , but an art. The koi dumplings are the most special and beautiful. It is so beautiful that you dont want to eat it. The dumpling is filled with shrimp and scallops mixture. The lychee shrimp ball is another art piece. The shrimp ball is deep fried (very crunchy) but made it look like a lychee. The shrimp dumpling and siu mei are ok. The deep fried pear shape thing is actually 咸水角, the skin is made by stick rice dough and deep fried perfectly. The filling is meat with black truffles...... very good. The red ball is actually foie gras. Unique. The short ribs are honey glaze. To have lunch here is not just food and art but also enjoyment and entertainment. You will be surprised by lwh.

5 Star Rating Visited Lai Wah Heen for Sunday brunch and left genuinely impressed by how refined yet comfortable the entire experience felt. Service was polished without being intrusive, and the pacing made the meal easy to enjoy from start to finish. We arrived earlier than our reservation and were seated immediately. The dining room was calm and relaxed, which allowed us to fully take in the food and service. We ordered the Candied Foie Gras, Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao, Lap Cheong Crispy XO Turnip Cake, Crispy Duck Wild Mushroom Spring Rolls, and the Steamed Pumpkin Bun. Before the food arrived, we selected Pu Er tea and were offered complimentary grapes. The tea turned out to be an excellent pairing throughout the meal, bold but not heavy, and very cleansing. The candied foie gras came with an eye catching presentation using dry ice. While small in size, the flavor progression was thoughtful, starting slightly sweet before opening into rich savory notes. The Xiao Long Bao was subtle and restrained, with well cooked filling and gentle crab roe that complemented rather than dominated. Turnip cake and spring rolls were excellent. The lap cheong brought depth and savoriness, and the duck spring rolls showed great balance between texture and seasoning. The pumpkin bun served on a shiso leaf was a pleasant surprise, aromatic and comforting with a combination that felt carefully considered. The meal ended with fresh pear slices, which tied everything together nicely. Parking validation was straightforward by providing the license plate number for two hours. Overall, a beautifully executed brunch with strong attention to detail. This is a place I would confidently return to and recommend for a refined Cantonese dining experience.

5 Star Rating Feels like my auntie just made me breakfast. Ordered Karine's supreme and added side salad, $27 including tip split between two people. Great flavour, tastes like home cooking. Fries are homemade hand cut, I liked the garlic but will try the home fries next time. They also have great take away containers. Love to Karine and her staff, will be back!

5 Star Rating Karine's is a treasure! It's been a long time since I've had the chance to eat in this area, and I immediately came here. I ordered a breakfast special mini and a green lemonade (with spinach, how cool is that!). This was not mini - it was a wonderful, delicious, filling meal. I had the eggs over easy, garlic fries, sausage. Such amazing value, such vibrant and juicy flavours, and look at all the fruit! And a giant glass bottle of fresh lemon-lime water on top of that! The staff are always so sweet and lovely; it really is like coming to your favourite restaurant where everyone knows you, but as a charming food court stall bursting with colour and life. Grateful you're still here! We're so lucky to have a place like this in Toronto!

5 Star Rating Wow, i have celiacs disease and the food and staff were amazing. Just about everything can be made gluten free and the food was fantastic. The amount of food was almost too much (in a good way) and the plating was very well done. I had the breakfast sandwich one day and was so impressed I went back again the next day to get the Karines Supreme with gluten free French toast. I gave the atmosphere a 4 star since it’s in a cafeteria, but it was clean and the service was really exceptional. My partner had the regular Karines supreme breakfast and he also was impressed with his meal.

4 Star Rating 4.5⭐ - Everything was very high quality. Prices a bit too high for this type of food in my opinion. Otherwise I'd say this is a 5 star restaurant. Hard to find good Hakka downtown but this restaurant is legit. The crispy beef was the best I've had. The only dish we didn't really like was the sweet and sour pork.

4 Star Rating Finally had a chance to visit this top rated hakka restaurant in Toronto driving in from Barrie. Having been a fan of hakka food and growing up in Scarborough I have had the opportunity to eat in many Hakka restaurants. We visited around 130 pm and the restaurant was already half full having only opened at 12 for lunch. Our family of 4 was extremely hungry ( 2 vegetarians). We ordered: mixed vegetable fried rice. I was a bit disappointed they dont offer a manchurian or schezuen version which is what I am used to. Nevertheless very flavourful. Shrimp pakoras...not as much shrimp and spicy. I felt like it could have used more indian flavours to be honest. Manchurian tofu my wife ordered extra spicy. She loved the flavours but said she was hoping the dish would have had a kick. Mixed vegetable and tofu was good. Fresh, crisp and the star of this dish was the bok choy. On recommendation of a friend who has eaten here many times got the manchurian chicken. One of the best manchurian chicken dishes I have had! Another recommendation was the shrimp in lobster sauce. There was a lot of sauce and I guess I was expecting more of a lobster taste which I didnt find. Our waiter Justi ( i believe is his name) was an older gentleman who you can tell enjoys his job very much. He always kept us informed as to the wait time of our food and was very engaging. We noticed this with his interaction with other patrons. He was also very funny. The restaurant was very clean and we saw a lot of people waiting for take out. Overall this was a very good experience. I might be a bit more critical of the food as I have enjoyed hakka food for over 40 years. Only reason for the 4 out of 5 stars is the spice level that wasnt there after requesting it and the shrimp pakoras taste. However still a great experience and will be back!

5 Star Rating This place came up on my YouTube feed. This place is the original Hakka restaurant in Toronto. Being a fan of this cuisine I had to check it out. This place does not disappoint. The chili chicken was really good. The fried rice was good, and the chicken corn soup was great! I did come back a few days later for lunch and tried the Manchurian fish. This was also really good. If you’re in the area or in the mood for good Hakka, make sure you come here.

5 Star Rating I'm no stranger to yueh tung's incredible food & friendly service. my mom has been eating here since she first immigrated to canada, nearly 40 years ago, and I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. every relative that visits the city or group of friends looking for a place to go out to eat and are not sure where, we take them to yueh tung. the atmosphere has changed over the years, but the food and service has remained the same; amazing quality, family style portions and leaving with bellies and hearts full. prepare to climb a flight of stairs when you enter. I assure you however, it will be 100% worth it! there are so many yummy dishes I can recommend, but here are a few of my family's go to dishes when we order: chicken chow mein, chicken in hot pot, beef with chinese broccoli, fried calamari (ask for plum sauce on the side), snow pea leaves sautéed in garlic, chicken fried rice, dry chili chicken on a sizzling hot plate (ask for gravy on the side), flat rice noodles with black bean sauce and beef. honestly, I can go on forever. the point is, yueh tung deserves all the hype it gets! I hope this is still around for another 40+ years. i've always dreamed of bringing my own family and children here, just like my mom did. thank you yueh tung, for the many years of wonderful memories and delicious food served!

4 Star Rating Sin & Redemption has a nice vibe and the service was genuinely good — the staff was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is also enjoyable for a night out. However, I found the prices a bit too high for what was offered. The food didn’t quite meet my expectations, and overall, it didn’t feel worth the price. While the place has potential, the quality of the dishes doesn’t match the cost.

5 Star Rating Japango in downtown Toronto is a modern Japanese restaurant that offers a casual yet polished dining experience. Located in a central area, it is easily accessible and popular with both locals and visitors. The interior is sleek and contemporary, with a minimalist design that creates a comfortable environment for both small groups and solo diners. The menu focuses on sushi, sashimi, and Japanese-inspired dishes, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and precise presentation. Sushi rolls and nigiri are prepared with attention to balance and flavour, while other options, such as donburi bowls and grilled dishes, offer variety for those seeking more than raw preparations. Portions are moderate, allowing diners to sample multiple items in one visit. Service at Japango is generally attentive and professional, maintaining a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Prices are in line with quality and location, offering reasonable value for downtown Toronto standards. While the restaurant is casual, it maintains a refined approach to food presentation and ingredient selection. Overall, Japango provides a reliable Japanese dining experience in the heart of the city. Its combination of fresh ingredients, varied menu, and modern, comfortable setting makes it a practical choice for lunch, dinner, or casual meetups in downtown Toronto.

3 Star Rating It’s been years since I last visited this place. It’s an OG sushi spot, but very small, and the seating isn’t very comfortable. That said, the sushi is quite good and very fresh, although we felt they used a bit too much rice on the nigiri. I especially loved the quail egg with tobiko—it’s something you hardly find these days. The only letdown was the waitress. She seemed unwelcoming, didn’t smile, and acted as if we owed her millions of dollars. She also took our plate away without asking, even though I hadn’t finished the ginger yet. The chef, on the other hand, was nice. Overall, the food was decent, but the lady who served us made us question whether a tip was deserved.

5 Star Rating This is an honest 5 stars for each category. Had stopped in to see what the restaurant looked like and were so impressed by the buffet that we decided to stay for lunch, and were REALLY happy we did. Each item was fresh, looked appealing and tasted excellent! The dishes were well seasoned without being peppery hot. There was an excellent condiments bar with a very good salad also. The dessert options even included fresh fruit. The pani puri (gol gappe) water was the best we've had in a LONG time! We really liked the presentation in small covered dishes, rather than the large, open trays most Indian buffets have. There were ample options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, and they bring freshly made naan to the table. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The items were refreshed promptly and the space is very pleasant, with tall windows and exposed brick walls, and with music soft enough to allow for easy conversation. One can always order a la carte, but the lunch buffet is so.impressive and such a deal that if going for lunch, then enjoying it would be our preference. We can't wait to go back!!

3 Star Rating Went for the winterlicious menu for some reason the host was super angry with the fact our group did, was extremely passive aggressive and very negative towards us when we did instead of the buffet. But regardless we ended up getting it, and tried the chicken mirch masala which was a solid 3/10 the flavours and chicken were abnormal not fully cooked The fish pakora were good, the chili momos were also good as well as the samosas. For mains the daal makhani was quite good but the lamb roganjosh and chicken tikka masala were lacklustre. The bhindi was also not good and had some awkward taste Overall the service speed was fine and good for a one time experience. Not too sure if I’d come back here

The restaurant quickly filled with ethnic Indians who knew this place had amazing Indian food, friendly staff, and welcoming service. The host continuously checked on us and encouraged us to try more but we were quickly full. The quality and quantity of the dishes we sampled were all generous and outstanding. 5 Star Rating I’ve been to this Tim Hortons many times at different hours. During the night shift, I always see hardworking guys doing their best. But at other times, there is a lady—her name is Christie, if I’m not mistaken—who truly stands out. Most of the time I use the self-order machine, and since this location is in downtown Toronto, it’s usually very busy with customers from many different backgrounds, attitudes, and levels of understanding. While waiting for my usual double espresso, I often observe what’s going on around me. Christie consistently shows the same high level of professionalism every time I see her. She speaks with confidence, uses clear and polite English, and gives attention to every customer, even in a crowded and stressful environment. At the same time, she manages the team like a conductor leading an orchestra—sometimes communicating with just a look, yet everything runs smoothly. With my 16 years of experience in customer service, I can honestly say she deserves a trophy. Treating so many different people with the same respect and calm attitude, at different times and in different situations, is not easy. I truly hope she is the manager of this location, and if she’s not, she absolutely deserves to be. I don’t know exactly how Tim Hortons’ system works, but if it were up to me, I would have her teaching the new generation how customer service should be done. This kind of work—at Tim Hortons or anywhere else—is an art. Finally, I want to thank the entire team working at this location for their hard work.

5 Star Rating Stopped by Cafe Plenty in Toronto — they have two locations, and I visited the Dundas one. The space has a warm, welcoming café atmosphere that feels relaxed and comfortable, making it a great spot for a work-week lunch or coffee break. The menu focuses on simple, well-executed café-bistro dishes, perfect when you want something satisfying without feeling too heavy. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich, which was fresh, well balanced, and comforting in a classic way, along with a brownie that was rich and indulgent without being overwhelming. Everything was prepared quickly, making it an ideal stop when you’re short on time. The service stood out — the staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which really elevated the overall experience. Overall, it’s an easy, reliable lunch spot with cozy vibes, kind service, and quality food. Definitely worth checking out during the work week if you’re in the area.

3 Star Rating Shady place. Doesn’t have prices on the menu, went there expecting the sandwiches to be $6-8, turned out to be $14. They don’t have prices on their menu. The sandwich was like an airport sandwich dry and didn’t have much taste and too much bread in proportion to the filling. It comes with a small side of salad which was decent but the dressing from the salad leaked all over the sandwich. Go across the street to the food court, you will be much happier with the food

2 Star Rating If you used to Tim Hortons coffee, the small size is equivalent to their medium size. I recently spent $15 on a simple sandwich here, only to discover that it was not fresh and had been made the day before.

5 Star Rating Every time I step into this beautiful cafe (open for thirteen years) I’m delighted with the unique and hospitable experience - nourishing and inviting. Now, sitting at the window counter, I’m eyeing the lunch treats and the freezer for take outs… maybe later on my way back from the AGO - just a few minutes walk from here. I savoured a custom latte with an oatmeal cranberry cookie as I thought about posting this review. So here it is. And, I’m ready to enjoy the incredible art at the gallery. Thank you again Cafe Plenty. See you soon.

4 Star Rating Nice interior, clean. Opens at 8am. Had a latte which costs around $6. Don’t know how much food cost since there is no price on the menu. But they do have a lot of selection of fresh sandwiches and pastries.

3 Star Rating This place used to be Ciao Pizzeria which is one of my favourite pizza in downtown Toronto. Now it has become a chain pizza location and not really happy about it. But when pizza cravings hit you, I guess you have to bite the bullet so decided to try their pizza slices - Honey Heat & Honululu. The Honey Heat pizza with the spicy chili flakes, tiny cup pepperoni, goey, melted mozzarella and then topped with honey are a match made in pizza heaven. The Honolulu is my least fave between the two as it's more on the salty side. Both pizza could benefit more with additional toppings as I find that they are skimping on toppings. But at least their pizza is decent and doesn't taste like cardboard compared to other so called franchise pizza places.

5 Star Rating Clean, easy to get to, delicious and in the best area in Toronto (the art gallery area) 😁🌈 The pizza was tasty, thin crusted and amazing, perfect for any mouth of any size. The restaurant itself was very clean and the service was very friendly. 😁❤️ I highly recommend checking this place out if you're ever in the art gallery area and you need to eat pizza after. I guess art makes people hungry for pizza. 🍕🍕 You will definitely see me back here eventually.

5 Star Rating Came here twice with a close friend and we love this place! Great cozy environment, service is always polite and friendly, food is absolutely to die for and nostalgic of my visit to Tokyo while also adding some spicy and tangy twists to some selections. They also have drink specials on certain days and cash discount, making it one of the easiest choices for me to make when it comes to my go-to izakaya in Toronto.

5 Star Rating The atmosphere was amazing, but the food was even better. Everything was absolutely delicious. The takoyaki was melt-in-your-mouth perfection — easily the best I’ve had in the city so far!
