Toronto offers abundant restaurants in every conceivable category. For authentic flavours check out some of Toronto's vibrant ethnic communities such as Chinatown, GreekTown, Little India and Little Italy. Each district boasts many fine restaurants and cafés specializing in ethnic cuisine. In fact, GreekTown has more restaurants per kilometre than anywhere else in the world, while Little India serves some of Toronto's best butter chicken.
For some of the cheapest eats in the city check out the vintage Kensington Market neighbourhood where many little eateries serve homemade specialties at affordable prices.
All the above neighbouhoods are easy to get to on public transit.
Below you'll find our recommendations on everything from quick take-out spots to fine dining. To qualify restaurants must be within a few blocks of a subway station, offer good value in their category and have consistently above average reviews. We don't include national fast-food franchises as you're likely already familiar with their offerings and there are no shortage of them to be found. Also, most of Toronto's shopping malls have a food court and at least one or more stand alone restaurants.
Our recommendations are divided into the four districts below. For each pick you'll find the relative cost, type of cuisine, walking directions from the nearest subway station and a link to the restaurant's official website if available. For the rest we use Google reviews to display the top rated Toronto restaurants less than a 5 minute walk from any subway station that you are likely to be near when visiting Toronto. Click on any station listed below to view maps, ratings and reviews of the top restaurants within easy walking distance.
