My new favorite place!
What do we want in a restaurant? Great ambiance, attentive service, delicious meals, carefully crafted cocktails and a reasonable price. NYKS checks all boxes.
The steak was delicious and I did a double take when I saw how affordable it was.
My wife loved the Fish and Chios with just the right crispiness in the batter.
Reservations are a good idea because it does fill out fast!

Excellent food, excellent atmosphere and very friendly service staff. The food was Amazing and reasonable costs. The vibe was pretty cool, despite being packed and a full house it was pleasant. The meals came out hot and perfectly timed for good conversations, drinks and enjoying the space.

We stopped in here for a poutine fix. The place was packed! Our server was very friendly, though a bit rushed due to the crowd. We ordered the duck poutine and the bison burger. The duck poutine was unique and tasty, though the fries and gravy could have been better. The bison burger was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, a solid spot, but not mind-blowing.

We had an excellent experience here! We ordered a steak with fries and beans. The dish was delicious and the sauce was fabulous. We also ordered an Aperol Spritz. Service was good and everyone was attentive. I would recommend it!

Good food. I ordered the duck poutine it was delicious.
Nice staff but not enough of them
for the amount of people they cram in.
be prepared to wait for your drinks/food even if it’s a simple order.
Very tight seating makes it feel overcrowded.

They are a great option for a grill restaurant. We ordered BBQ Pork Back Ribs and Louisiana Chicken, the ribs were delicious and the chicken was really good mix of flavors. Highly recommend!

Great grill restaurant with amazing food and excellent service! They switched our server last minute but handled it professionally. The customer service was top-notch. The atmosphere was a bit loud, making it hard to communicate, but overall, it was a fantastic experience—solid 5 stars! ❤️

Good food and friendly staff. The lady at the reception was so lovely and same goes w our waiter. the many isnt very broad but enough for everyone to find something they like- prices are average for Montreal. The Thai Salad was amazing, the ribs very tender, the burger okay but the fries memorable. beautiful place inside and comfy seating.

We went here for lunch and it was very cozy and had a lot of tvs with different sports. The servers were very nice and allowed us to stay near the window when it was snowing. We ordered three items, the chicken burger was a 3.5/5 - there wasn't really a wow factor or a must have it again. The grilled salmon was a 4/5 - it had a great flavor to it but it felt a bit slightly overcooked. The prime rib sandwich was a 4.5/5 - the meat itself is very bland so the sauce is really needed but it also didn't give enough wow or flavors as I wanted it to be, but definitely would order again

Having a beer in a snowing windy is a unique mood.
People are quite right about the music in this place- not too loud, not too high, not too low or aggressive- just about right!
The Eurodog, hotdog on baguette, is huge!! A big shock for a Vancouverite! 🤣

Good place, with very good music, good service and a varied menu of beers and drinks. All the options were well served and at a fair price. The Cactus beer was amazinnnnggg, the Bretzel was delicious and enough for for people to share. Good option for going with friends:)

This was such a lovely place! I got a rosé cider and I would definitively recommend it, and I paired it with one of their pretzels. The pretzels are super large and the mustard they serve it with is a classic. Service was great and we had a large group that got accommodated easily.

Food: It would be a 4-star for very limited food choices, almost nothing without carbs, but who's there for food? :P Seriously, Great Beers and other drinks for the price. Before-20:00 discount combos and after-20:00 1L pitchers make good deals. Consider the drinks only, 5 stars.
Services: helpful. They know their beer and make good recommendations.
Atmosphere: good vibe for dating, friendly chats, group reunions, and daytime reading with a nice drink. However, some upholstered bar stools are badly broken and need a check. Some wooden chairs are wobbly too.

We were initially told to order inside, but once we got in, we were told there was table service—already a bit disorganized. We didn’t receive any menus until we specifically asked for them. That said, the Caesars were actually quite good and definitely the highlight. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. The pulled pork panini was bland and lacked any real flavor, served with what felt like convenience store chips. Overall, decent drinks but very mediocre food and service.

Had such a blast on the Valentine's jazz night.
It's pretty sad to have to rate four stars instead of five for some of small things during it.
First of all, the food, the staff, the band, the singer, the wine, atmosphere, location, everything I mentioned above is beyond AMAZING! No complaints on those at all.
Sadly I didn't quite enjoy the cocktails so much, we ordered two different cocktails and neither of them can step up with our high expectations, with the price and all the good things I mentioned above.
For sure this place is perfect for special occasions, as it's a fancy place to dine, behind and inside of an old church. That part I think it's brilliant!
The toilets are quite limited as it's inside the old church but it was not packed at all so I don't find this a negative thing.
In summary, best fancy place for live music, food, wine selections not so much for cocktails (in my opinion) OR maybe if you try different cocktails it would have been better. Still recommended!

I had the absolute pleasure of attending Brunch Gospel with Michelle Sweeney and the Gospel Tribe at the Balcon on the 28th, and it was an unforgettable experience! The food was really good but the highlight for me was the music. Michelle Sweeney and the Gospel Tribe delivered performances that were nothing short of electrifying. It was a good way to enjoy great food while being uplifted by incredible live gospel music.

Le Balcon is a staple in Montreal experiences! Located in an old cathedral, this theater always makes for an incredible time!
There’s room to dance if you’d like- most people do! The main floor is tables/chairs set up cabaret style. The balcony is church pews with a thin piece of fabric as your seat cushion. You’ll be up dancing anyways, so don’t get too comfy! Balcony is also “sit wherever” so feel free to move around… but make sure you close out with your server! If you can find them! Once the show starts, I really didn’t see anyone to grab me another drink:(
It’s a very intimate venue- there are no bad seats! Very picturesque too!
The entrance is on the side street!
There’s a coat check for $3CAD and yes they take cards! Beware- there’s a long line aftee to get your coat!
The bathrooms are pitiful! Located up a bunch of stairs and then there’s only 2 teeny stalls! For a venue, we need more please!

Horrible attitude from the waitress when I complained how long it took to get served the main dish. (1h15 minutes). Arrogant and rude. She walked away when I spoke to her. I didn't even leave a tip and usually I am a generous tipper. I have been here many times but this is the last time.

I am really sorry to the owner for his selection of an incompetent and arrogant manager that was working on December 21st. We had the worst experience ever both from a service point of view and food quality. The waiter that she stated that she is also the manager was extremely unprofessional in many sense (communication and service). The food in general was of a lesser quality than a 4stars restaurant. Clearly I will never step in this restaurant in the future. I feel very bad for the customers if the quality and service is the same and also feel bad for the owner for his poor choice of manager !!! I gave a low tip for the poor experience we had and we got insulted in public for it, she told us that we are not allowed in the restaurant in the future!!! As if I will even consider it. I am stunned and surprise how did they get the 4stars

If I could leave more than 5 star review for the service, I would! Catherine was unbelievable and the ultimate example of EXCELLENT customer service. I wanted to treat my parents to dinner after a show they were seeing at PDA, for their 60th wedding anniversary, and wanted to treat them for dinner. Catherine worked with me to try to find a way that this could happen. She offered many different solutions and followed up at every turn. It was impressive!!! When my parents showed up at the restaurant, she treated them with white gloves and made sure their experience was memorable. THANK YOU Catherine for the unforgettable experience. Linda

SESAME was exactly what it said it was, an Asian fusion restaurant. I always wanted to try this place since it looked so chic on the outside. Walking into the restaurant, it was just that.
We ordered the salmon tartar for an appetizer, which was delicious and fresh. For main, I got the pad thai with tofu, and my partner got the orange chicken. I was craving Thai food earlier in the day, and this pad Thai was the best pad Thai I've had in a while.
It was so flavorful and had the right ratio of noodles to ingredients. I was stuffed by the time I finished, and I immediately recommended this place to someone who loves pad thai. The orange chicken, too, was so tender on the inside and so full of flavor on the outside. Paired with the rice and vegetables, it made a balanced meal.
Overall, I would come back for the pad thai. If I'm ever in the area craving Asian food again, I'm sure I'll be there.

I was yearning for Asian food and I came across this menu online and noticed the Thai options they had, so I walked here a few blocks from the hotel I was staying in. They were moderately busy on a Tuesday night and they greeted and seated me immediately. My server was great, very friendly and helpful. The menu had a couple of items that looked appetizing, such as the Tom Yum soup and curry chicken stir fry.
I started with jasmine hot tea, which was excellent and warming after the walk in 2 degree weather. The soup was warm as well, but flavors weren’t as authentic as I expected. It was decent though. Next up was the curry chicken stir fry and it was really bland, so I used a bunch of their hot sauce to spike it up. I’ve never been to a Thai spot that didn’t have birds eye chili and Prik nam pla, as their hot sauce was a form of sriracha. It was spicy, but not much flavor.
Overall, the venue was beautifully decorated and service was great, but food mediocre.

Sesame has some fun food, it's good, creative, and very aesthetically appealing. I will say though that I would go back just for their dessert, I cannot stress enough how amazing they are! The mango sorbet is so fresh, and the sesame and matcha ice cream is a fire match that you need in your life.

The chicken poke tasted really good. Just wish there was more of it. Left a little hungry still but the quality of the food was definitely there

The location of the place is pleasant, particularly when seated near the windows.
Overall, the food quality is satisfactory, but the portions at POKE are insufficient. We found the dishes lacking in salt and sauce. The bowls are oversized compared to standard plates and portion sizes (personal opinion). Despite this, the service was excellent, although they seemed understaffed with only one person attending to everyone (who was very attentive to us). Overall, it's still recommended.

Good sushi if you know what to get.
I had a bad experience my first time here: I was a bit stingy and I decided to get the cheapest set (12$) with rolls picked by the chef. Sadly I got mostly cucumber and avocado filled rolls.
However I decided to give it a second try and got the Seattle roll and Nagoya pizza for around 30$. Both were good! The Seattle roll was flavorful and the Nagoya pizza’s rice was hot and crispy. Both were very filling!
I wouldn’t say it’s authentic sushi but it definitely hits the spot. For around 20$ you could get something good, just don’t expect to have a meal for less than 15$ like I did :’)

I’ve been here a couple times and the food has been consistently delicious and fresh each time! I highly recommend the sushi and rolls, however, I found the poke bowls a bit overpriced for the portion size compared to what you can get at similar places; that’s the only reason this is a 4 star review and not a 5. But overall, this is a lovely place with great staff and very yummy food - I definitely recommend!

I stumbled upon this sushi gem recently, and I can't stop raving about it! This place has quickly become my go-to spot for delicious sushi in town. The food here is incredibly fresh, and each bite is bursting with flavor. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking for a tasty meal, this place won't disappoint.
One of the things that really stands out about this sushi shop is the value for money. Despite the top-notch quality of their ingredients, the prices here are very reasonable. You get a lot of bang for your buck, which is always a plus.
In addition to their dine-in experience, they also offer catering services, which I've had the pleasure of trying at a corporate event. The sushi platters were a hit among everyone, and it added a special touch to the occasion. So whether you're hosting a corporate gathering or a special event, this place has you covered.
What's more, I find myself frequenting this spot regularly for weekday lunches. Whether I dine in or grab takeout, the experience is always consistent and satisfying. It's become a highlight of my week!
Overall, I can't recommend this sushi spot enough. From the freshness of the food to the affordability and excellent catering options, it's a winner in my book. If you're in the mood for some top-quality sushi, look no further than this place!

We visit this place with our work colleagues at least twice a week. The sushi here is absolutely addictive! The blend of textures from the fish, panko, and avocado is simply perfect. I would give it a rating of 1000/10 and highly recommend it! Staff is always smiling and nice.

Great food. Very friendly service. Lively atmosphere. All day brunch. Pancakes were fluffy. Potato fries were great. Mango Orange smoothie was too sour. I was expecting it to be a bit on the sweeter side. But guess they try to serve healthy food without adding any sugar which is good👍🏼.

Had brunch at Eggspectation and it was delicious. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was really well done—the eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce was rich and flavorful. Portion size was solid, and the service was quick and friendly. Great spot for a satisfying brunch. I’d definitely come back.

I had breakfast at Eggspectation in Old Montreal yesterday and really enjoyed it! I ordered the Eggspectation Omelette, which was loaded with mushrooms, onions, peppers, bacon, sausage, ham, and cheddar cheese - very satisfying. I also had two espresso doppios, which were strong and just what I needed to start the day.
The place has a great atmosphere and the waiter who served me was very friendly and welcoming. The music selection was actually quite good, though the volume was a bit high for 7 a.m., especially since the restaurant was almost empty at that time. Still, it did not take away from the overall positive experience.
Definitely a nice spot to grab breakfast in Old Montreal. I would come back!

The atmosphere here is undeniable. It is a hidden gem in this area. The food overall was great. The beet carpaccio was a pleasant surprise. My flank steak was a little too salty for my liking, and I was left to eat it with a butter knife. The server didn't come back during the meal to ask if we needed anything and we couldn't get their attention since the place was a little busy. Overall a great experience that can only improve with a little more attention to the patrons.

Tiamo was disappointing. The atmosphere and food were actually quite nice. It has a very chic, elegant vibe when you walk in.
The reason why I'd give it 2 stars, though, was because of two things. One, the portion sized were just way too small for the price that I was paying. And two, the service was absolutely terrible.
After ordering an appetizer and a main, I expected to be quite full. But I was actually still hungry. This, to me, indicates that the portion sizes were just not that large.
The service seemed okay at the beginning. Gave recommendations and took our orders fine. But by the end of the meal, everyone only had one glass of water. A small group came in, too, and was waiting to be seated only to look around and find nobody. No one was there to seat them, nor to give us water.
Overall, I won't be coming back. I expect to be treated better for that price.

Tiamo is a great choice if you’re craving well-prepared Italian cuisine, especially wood-fired pizzas and classic pastas, in a warm, chic atmosphere. Perfect for date nights, family dinners, or weekend brunch. For larger groups, consider booking in advance and be aware of plate size expectations.
⸻
🔧 Tips Before You Go
• Book in advance, especially for dinner; brunch is walk-in only.
• Go for the pizzas, which are freshly fried daily.
• Some dishes may be standard sized for the price – sharing is smart.
• Check out their extensive wine list and cocktail menu at the bar.

We hesitated a bit about this restaurant because of the 4.2 rating… but, ultimately, decided to give it a try because it was more conveniently located than another we considered.
The atmosphere is a bit younger than is suitable for us, being, on average, over 60. There was a DJ. I think that covers it.
But the service was excellent, and the food was exceptional. Maybe Montreal has a biased scale, being a cosmopolitan city. I'm just from Boulder, Colorado, a place previously considered to be "foodie."
We sat at the bar. Sort of like a chef's table. It was fun watching the young fellow making the pizzas and managing them in the wood-fired pizza oven.
I had a Tiamo salad, the sausage rigatoni, and a chocolate mousse. All were delicious. The salad was larger than I expected; the rigatoni perhaps a bit smaller, but really just the right size; and the mousse was fantastic! It was light and wonderful. I hope I can sleep after that.
You should try this place. Don't be fooled by the 4.2.
Also, the total expense included a couple drinks (each) and a bottle of wine, in case you're looking at the budget.
Chuck Lawhead - 2 months ago
The food was bang on! 🤩 The Valentine’s menu was prepared with a lot of thought put in by the chef. The ambience was great with dim lights.
The service could have been better. We had to wait around 30mins before we could be seated even after a reservation & arriving before time.
Moreover, the music played could been turned down as it made it a bit difficult to listening to the person sitting across the table.
Overall the experience was superb. Recommend to try out the food @Tiamo❤️

It's a very cozy spot to go with friends and family. A main dish is less than $30, and the ingredients are super fresh. I love the pizza there, but keep in mind that the menu always changes, so your favorite pizza may not be available on your second visit.
We ordered gnocchi and pizza with sausage, and both were very good. I highly recommend this place!
They have two floors, so I've never seen a line when having lunch on the weekend, but you could make a reservation just in case.

I went there for sunday brunch with group of friends. We were upstairs. We were waiting to order the food and it takes us a long time to get someone to take our order. And the food took so long to be served. But the food tastes good.
Salad is really refreshing. The poached eggs and hollandaise sauce were amazing. All good, except the long time of waiting

This is a good spot for brunch and food wise :
Loved the breakfast pizza - the egg on top was much better than expected.
Feta cheese scone - pretty good but felt it would be better if it was a little more of a crispy exterior. Very yummy and a cheesey flavour
Duck thigh - not my favourite but others said it was very good although the duck meat could have been a little more tender
Silky Tofu salad - very very nice flavour and lots of fresh veggies. I will also say the tofu was NOT silky but on the very firm side (so this was disappointing)
Pancakes with maple ice cream - excellent. but felt they should have added another pancake to fill out the plate.. (personal peeve).
The Panisse fries - very very good. Good balance of halloumi, eggplant, chickpeas and dressing .
Would I come back - probably would return but would love to try the other menu options - you won't be disappointed to try this spot.

The dish I liked the most was the fish soup — it reminded me of the one I had in Marseille, France. The fish was fresh and flavorful. The pasta was nicely al dente with great texture.
Such a lovely way to start a relaxing day.
