4 Star Rating amazing spot for date night. every single dish tasted exquisite on the tasting menu. some great and some just fantastic. the price is beyond reasonable for what you get and i definitely recommend the 7 courses. we loved the cocktails as well. the atmosphere is pleasant, very simple and we got a very romantic table (though others look a bit more squished). it was also fairly easy to make a weekend reso. the manager (host?) is also super cool. waitress was nice and so were the food runners. came for our anniversary and they put a candle on the 7th course dessert. had to remove a star from the service though since they forgot our sixth course and went straight to seven and only remedied it when asked.

5 Star Rating Just phenomenal food and service. You can pick a la carte but far the more popular choice is 5 or 8 courses. We tried 5 courses menu and it was enough food. Everything was delicious. My favourite dish was beef tartare with pickle mushrooms - just phenomenal! Definitely will be back.

5 Star Rating We had the five course tasting menu with a non alcoholic pairing and added a couple of side courses. At one point the server forgot to bring the first pairing with the course but made up for it by asking the bartender to create a brand new drink to pair with one of our side dishes. They were very transparent about it being something new and even reassured us that if we did not like it they would prepare something else. I really appreciated that level of creativity and open communication. The food itself was great and overall it was a wonderful experience that felt well worth the price.

4 Star Rating We passed in front of this restaurant quite a few times as we live nearby. we were looking for something different to eat so we decided to give it a try. Actually Lia had already been with some colleagues from her previous employment. The interior decor is quite simple, the menu heavily favours combo options . We decided to go with the crispy chicken and rice as well as the pho. Service was OK. We kind of wish that we felt more welcome. Accessing the restaurant by foot is quite easy. Parking is a different story. if you’re lucky you may find street parking on Saint Catherine St. otherwise there are a few parking lots available in the area.

4 Star Rating I was highly impressed with the quality of the food. The vietnamese pork chop with white rice was pretty good. The runny fried egg really adds this authentic feel to it. The fried banana was just ok. The service was a little bit slow as the place was packed with customers going in and out at a good pace.

5 Star Rating Some of the best Pho I've had in Montreal in a family-style restaurant. Service is excellent, courteous and fast. Appetizers are small, bite-sized, perfect while waiting for your massive soup without wasting your appetite. The Phō broth was not outstanding but good, complex and balanced. The meat toppings were well prepared, I'd recommend the raw beef which was particularly good. I can't believe I ordered desert after all this food, but I didn't regrets it that banana donut was delicious! The neighborhood is not great, but the food is good and the service is great. Would recommend!

4 Star Rating Don’t be fooled by the old wood paneling on the walls reminiscent of what’s you’d see at your grandma’s basement. This place has been here for years and the food is cheap, fast and delicious. We came to eat dinner and after quickly being seated and ordering our food, it didn’t take long for our orders to arrive. The pho broth is flavourful, definitely the draw for people to come back. If you’re looking to satisfy your pho craving and you’re in the neighbourhood... head here. Cheers!

5 Star Rating It’s more than amazing to enjoy such authentic Vietnamese gourmet meal. We had 7 beef courses , anchovy sauce plus fried squid, with a sweet ending of fried banana & chocolate tartufo. Having stellar service, warm family ambience in a modern design restaurant. We enjoyed a lot and definitely will visit again. My pocket-list and is my favorite recommendation !

We had the 7 Beef course set meal and it was better than I remembered. Given the price went up, but generally dining out got expensive due to many factors. The attentive staff, sporting smiles, made us feel truly welcome. The sommelier ensured our glasses were never empty. The seafood stir fry served on trendy dinnerware was spot on. We loved the stylish, softly lit vibe - it was the perfect backdrop for an intimate evening. It's the perfect spot to enjoy an early dinner before heading to an event in the vicinity.

5 Star Rating Couldn't recommend it more. Beautiful restaurant serving amazing, authentic food and run by a kind Vietnamese family. A great place to expand your experience with Vietnamese cuisine - try the 7 beef specialty and the chao tom, grilled shrimp wrapped around sugarcane. Everything was super fresh, the meats were cooked perfectly and the flavour was to die for. The traditional components of the dishes e.g. fish sauce and bun (vermicelli) were spot on, while they also put their own stamp on other components. Very reasonable for the quality and level of service.

5 Star Rating Don't be fooled by the name "theatre", it's mainly a cafe during the day and is an excellent place to laptop. If you're roaming in this part of town, this is the best cafe you will find. If you compare it with other cafes across Montreal, it is unique in its association with theatre, mainly improv, which keeps the good vibes flowing. Friendly staff, good lunch food options and coffee.

5 Star Rating No pool tables, but damn good hot dogs! Cash only — they’ll take U.S. dollars at a 1:1 exchange rate, so you’re better off paying in Canadian. The menu is simple and classic: choose between cucumber relish, mustard, or sauerkraut. Ketchup? It’s self-serve on the counter once you get your order. But the real surprise? The buns — soft, chewy, and perfectly steamed — they might be even better than the dogs themselves. A no-frills gem that delivers exactly what it promises.

3 Star Rating Wanted to try Montreal's second oldest restaurant for a long time. Went in around 4pm on a Tuesday and only 5 people there. Service was very fast. Had two Steamy dogs, fries and a Diet Coke. I feel like that cost me 15$ including a small tip. Had the all dressed which is mustard, relish and cole slaw. The fries were 10/10. The dogs 5/10. Very light on the mustard and relish. The slaw wasn't really slaw, just cabbage with maybe a little vinegar, salt and sugar. Made the dogs bitter. My issue here is the hygiene. The dogs are being plucked out of the steamer with bare hands. Then the hands are handling money and a cell phone. Lord knows what else was being fondled. I don't think I can go back for this reason.

3 Star Rating We had a pleasant experience overall. The white wine was nice, and the portions were impressively large. The food itself was fresh and absolutely incredible — definitely the highlight of the night. That said, there were a few things that could be improved. Our waitress disappeared for about 10–15 minutes to chat with friends, and it took around 25–30 minutes before anyone took our order. Thankfully, we weren't in a rush, so it didn’t ruin the experience. The layout could also use some work — tables felt randomly placed, and the restroom was located all the way down a long hallway, quite far from the main dining area. Still, the food made up for it, and I’d come back for the taste alone. ❤️❤️

4 Star Rating Have only been in Montreal 4 days but eating out every day and to be honest til this restaurant have been disappointed by bland offerings, especially the vegetarian options. However the meal we had here was great. Delicious fresh salads with tasty dressing and penne with ricotta and Gorgonzola was super tasty. Portion size is also generous and the staff, though very overworked when we were there, are friendly and helpful. They could do with one more waiting on staff. Other than that, great food that is highly recommend.

5 Star Rating We had the most incredible meal at Darbar last night. We are on holidays from Ireland and Darbar was highly recommended to us in Toronto and it certainly lived up to our expectations and more!! We were welcomed by Simar, the chef & owner, and he took time to chat with us about our preferences, spice, proteins etc. He went on to recommend dishes for each of us and they were all amazing. We had Lamb Saag, Shrimp Korma & Chicken Rogan Josh. The intensity of flavour in the sauces was spectacular. Simar checked back a few times to ensure everything ok with our meal. The Naan bread was really delicious and crispy too. We ordered cocktails and they were unusual and fantastic in equal measure!! A few Cobras with our meal and the 3 of us were full and satisfied!! Thanks to our waiter Prée who was very friendly, warm & helpful. Overall we had a fantastic experience at Darbar. It was the best Indian meal we've eaten and the whole experience was very special from start to finish. 4 Star Rating Sunday, August 17, Montreal feels like autumn already at just 17°C. The perfect excuse to warm up at Da Giovanni, a true local institution since 1954. Known for its generous pasta plates and no-frills pizzas, this Sainte-Catherine Street spot has long been a go-to for families, students, and anyone craving old-school Italian comfort. Today’s choice: spaghetti covered in their classic tomato sauce, topped with a giant meatball. Simple, hearty, and exactly what the chilly day calls for.

3 Star Rating My husband and I recently visited this restaurant and, while the service was good, the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered the Parmigiana meal and a pepperoni pizza, but unfortunately, neither dish impressed us. The portions were generous, but the quality didn’t match. The pizza was just average—nothing particularly memorable. The Parmigiana however, was quite disappointing. It was extremely thin, greasy, and lacked the comforting, hearty texture you’d expect. I ended up eating just the pasta that came with it, which says a lot. Overall, despite the friendly service, the food simply didn’t deliver, and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

3 Star Rating My parents used to take me here when I was a little girl. While the food is still good, something about the atmosphere just isn’t the same since they moved. It used to feel like walking into a big family dinner, with warmth, energy, and that old-school Italian charm. I remember the cook in the windows making sauces and spaghetti for all the passersby to see! It was so unique. Now, it feels a little too polished, a little too impersonal—with the TV screens and the decor that’s just like every other restaurant. It’s lost the essence of what made it special. Another disappointment was the misleading website. The pictures show pizzas that aren’t even on the menu, which was frustrating when we sat down expecting to order something that simply wasn’t available. It left the impression that either the menu had been changed without updating the site, or the images were just for show. Don’t call it a Margherita pizza when it isn’t. Overall, if you’re just here for a meal, the food still delivers. But if you’re looking for that nostalgic Da Giovanni experience, you might leave feeling like something’s missing.
