We recently ordered from Kamura Sushi and unfortunately won’t be returning.
It’s important to note that they only accept cash or e-transfer, and the e-transfer goes to a personal account rather than a business account, which felt unusual and a bit concerning.
Inside the restaurant there was a noticeable fishy, musky smell. On a positive note, our food was ready quickly for pickup.
However, the sushi itself wasn’t great. The rolls had far too much rice and fell apart as soon as we picked them up. It didn’t taste particularly fresh or authentic. The sunomono was also disappointing. It wasn’t vinegary enough and was served quite warm.
Overall, not a place we would recommend or return to.

Ordered sushi rolls, and they put in the party tray. Nice presentation and affordable price. People in my family really like the sushi

If you’re craving sushi in generous portions, this is the right place. The portions are pretty big. Most people order takeout since there’s limited seating. Their tea was quite good—it paired well with the sushi and sashimi. I think I should bring a tumbler next time, lol. This restaurant accepts cash or e-transfer only.

The sushi here is huge and hits the spot. There are discounts when you order ahead (2hrs in advance & 1 day in advance). The vast majority of people who come here will order take out, cause there aren't many seats inside.
This restaurant used to be called Samurai Sushi, but I think it may be the same owner because the quality is about the same? Hope this place stays around for a long time :)

I often come to this pizza place for takeout because it’s so delicious! There’s also a staff member named LoveRAJ who really left a strong impression on me. He puts a lot of care into making the pizza and is extremely friendly. Highly recommend!

Had the loveliest brunch here! Beautiful spacious place with lots of tables and bright natural lighting. Calm and peaceful atmosphere, great for chatting without too much noise. The staff were very nice and attentive too and the food was delicious yet affordable. Will be coming back for sure! To enter, you go in through the front doors of the retirement home.

My partner and I live just a couple of blocks away and recently discovered this hidden gem inside the seniors’ residence. We had no idea there was a restaurant in there!
Suzanne, our server, was incredibly warm and welcoming. She walked us through the menu and recommended the haddock fish and chips and the seared salmon poke bowl which was cooked. Both were generous portions and absolutely delicious. She also shared information about the residence and upcoming Valentine’s and Lunar New Year events.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be back next time with the rest of our family.

Totally a gem in Vancouver! A lovely café under the seniors' residence. Delicious food and thoughtful service that our server Suzan initially helps splitting the meal and even brought us freshly made fish & chips because ours got cold while we were too busy chatting. Definitely coming back!

I've been here several times and each time the service was very good. But today it is even more exceptional. Suzanne, the friendly manager, took the order and my husband indicated he wanted his salmon medium rare. When the order showed up, right away she noticed the salmon was overcooked, and she insisted to get the kitchen to cook another piece for my husband according to order! My huaband ended up having a double portion of this beautifully prepared salmon. We were speechless and were utterly impressed by such attention to detail and excellent customer service👍. Highly recommend this place.

I recently visited Ash Street Bistro, located within the senior living community, and had a wonderful experience. The bistro offers a relaxing and calming environment, perfect for enjoying a quiet meal. I ordered a breakfast plate consisting of sausages, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and toast. The meal was well-prepared and satisfying, with everything cooked to perfection. The sausages were flavorful, the eggs fluffy, and the hash browns crispy. The toast added a nice touch to the meal.
What stood out the most was the peaceful ambiance of the bistro, which made for a pleasant and refreshing dining experience. The staff was attentive and welcoming, adding to the positive atmosphere. I would recommend Ash Street Bistro to anyone looking for a good meal in a tranquil setting.
Feel free to adjust based on your experience!

Food:
Visited three times and only had their banh mi and the salad roll.
The bread was nicely toasted, crispy exterior and soft interior with fresh ingredients.
On the flip side, the salad roll was decent, but I found it somewhat lacking in flavor even when paired with the peanut sauce. Perhaps, too much vermicelli.
Favourite dish(es):
Signature banh mi
Service:
Despite the customers ahead of me, the service was surprisingly speedy.
Environment:
Small place with two tables outside.
Recommend:
Yes.

I’ve tried their #2. Grilled Pork / Nem Nuong $9.50 banh mi and I really like it! Warm meat with tasty creamy pate. They have stamp card buy ten get one free. No seating inside. Two small tables and chairs outside front entrance. Free street parking available around neighbourhood. Parking lot in the back is for BMO customers. I also saw food trucks parked out front along Cambie during weekdays.

My experience at Bonjour Banh Mi was disappointing. My partner and I are both fans of banh mi, and were looking forward to trying a new place. I ordered the veggie sub, and he got the lemongrass chicken. The service was poor, with the woman at the counter being quite curt and cold. My chair was covered in crumbs, and there were no napkins at the front that I could use to clean it. They had a small selection of sandwiches to choose from, which is unusual compared to other places. There was nothing special about this banh mi; both my partner and I were unimpressed and wished we had not wasted our time here. We will not be coming back.

The bread and veggies are super fresh but unfortunately the chicken tasted a little rancid. The small side soup was $10 and tastes plain, not great especially for the price. They have lots of canned drink choices but don't have iced coffee as well which pairs so well with bahn mi.

Well, it's not a bad place, the meat and sandwiches are tasty. There’s just one thing that bothers me: the bowl of rice and chicken. It tastes good, but for some reason it always smells like socks after a long shift at a construction site or factory. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the sauce ,but overall, I like this place

Went here during the opening day when it was so busy. All workers, especially the lady at the front giving out food, still kept a smile on their face giving their best customer service even though customers were being so rude and entitled. Big props to them.
I had the birria, pork and steak tacos and all were so incredibly flavourful. Reminds me of the tacos I had in Mexico City.
Highly recommend everyone to try this spot!!

The fish tacos were soooo good! Super reasonably priced 3 for $22. Freshly made and beautifully presented. The corn tortillas were being freshly prepared in front of me.

Very authentic flavours from the head chef of Monterey Mexico.
Recommend the two beef and one pork tacos

Hands down, these are the best tacos in the city. My absolute favorites are El dorado shrimp, Asador steak, and The birria, but honestly, everything is so good. They definitely have that authentic Mexican flavor.
G SL - a month ago
The portions were generous and the meat was juicy and flavourful without being greasy. The corn tortillas were so soft and perfectly complemented the meat and sauces although the sizes were inconsistent. One was too small which resulted in the taco breaking apart while eating. The chips were crispy and lightly seasoned but again sizing was inconsistent. The guac was good but perhaps not worth the price. I would definitely get the tacos again though.
The atmosphere was my main issue as the music was blasted way too loud in the Market so you have to yell to hear over it. Not the store's fault but still brought down the overall dining experience here.

Chicken was great, the fries were a little too salty..but the mac and cheese was delicious! The staff was very friendly and welcoming and that's great!

Absolutely amazing chicken! So juicy, we chose the spice level hot, got really good kick to it. Even though lunch time was busy, the service was great, the owner even came to check on us. 5 stars, highly recommended 👍

First time trying DownLow Chicken, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The service was amazing. When we told the cashier it was our first visit, the entire staff welcomed us, which was such a fun touch. They also gave us every sauce to try.
The Fries on the DL were delicious, and the OG Burger definitely lived up to the hype. I'd recommend both if it's your first time.
One tip: go on an empty stomach because the portions are huge.

DL Chicken Oakridge is great. Its more accessible for people who cannot get to their commercial drive location.
I tried the Grilled Chicken Sando as i have tried most of their menu items at their other location. I would give it a 7.5/10, for chicken the said is brined for 24 hours is a bit bland but other than that its all good. Good sauce good buns and coleslaw no weak points besides the chicken.
I hate to see the prices inflated like crazy payint $19 for a sandwich is a scam but seems that is the cost of being located in Oakridge. The rent must be insane from the landlords so they need to charge this much.
I would like to say the nice guy with the mustache had a great attitude, im sure he'd already been working for a few hours and still was smiling and upbeat.
Ill have to come back and try the OG Sando sometime and compare to their other location.

Tried their fried chicken, Mac and cheese and fries. Chicken was juicy and the batter is crispy but I feel the chicken was not marinated long enough. Mac n cheese was cold when I got it but it was a good al denté. Fries were decent but lacked flavour
