We were a bit surprised to find such a charming place, with fantastic food so close to the Notre Dame, but this is Paris, not London, so maybe we shouldn't have been! Massive shout out to the brilliant woman running the floor (I am going to assume she owns the joint) who happily took pity on my school boy French and chatted to us so amusingly in English. She also suggested the tiramisu for dessert - and if you taste it, you will understand why. I still ordered (as well) the crème brulee which was also a sensation. She was less happy about my asking for some butter and in fairness the bread was so good it didn't really need it. But y'know, butter.

The cozy atmosphere and wonderful service made this dining experience a true highlight to our trip. The food was delicious and fresh. It was a hearty, homemade French meal. My husband had baked fish and I had a ratatouille quiche. This did not feel like a space where many tourists visit. It was a wonderful find for us and gave us a chance to experience French cuisine not too far from our hotel. The server and chef were gracious. It is a place we hope to return to someday.

We stopped and at here while on vacation since our airbnb was just around the corner. The server was very nice and funny. Our meals were delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was pleasant being able to visit without yelling.

Went for lunch on a weekend. (Note they have a fixed price menu Mon-Fri). Traditional setting with professional service. We had a nice lunch with steak tartare and beef bourguignon . The steak tartare was a 5/5. The beef bourguignon was a 2/5 - meat was dry and sauce was average. For desert we had profiteroles. Wide range of wines - we enjoyed a nice red. Overall - we’d go back if in the area/visiting the Cluny - just try something else.

Later dinner. Escargot was good. Buttery and soft. Beef was very well seasoned but slightly over medium rare. Would be a 5 star if it was perfect. Service was reasonable. Atmosphere is great. Classic brasserie atmosphere. Lively Parisian energy with the mirrors, wood and pictures showcasing their history.

5/5 – Excellent authentic Parisian brasserie Brasserie Balzar was a highlight of our work trip to France with a large group of colleagues. The classic brasserie atmosphere—mirrors, wood paneling, and lively Parisian energy—felt perfectly authentic. We shared aperitifs, a variety of starters and mains, paired with great wines. My escargots were tender and full of garlic butter, and the beef tartare was fresh, well-seasoned, and outstanding. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. Service was warm, attentive, and nicely paced for our group. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Superb food, genuine Parisian charm, and a memorable evening. Highly recommend for groups or anyone wanting a real brasserie experience—we’d happily return!

Le Balzar — Fallon for the Plot Good service deserves applause. Bad service deserves notes. This was our very first stop after arriving in Paris by Eurostar. We had been awake since 3:00 a.m., dragging our luggage and our jet lag through Saint-Germain-des-Prés looking for breakfast, caffeine, and honestly… emotional support. Le Balzar delivered all three. The service was phenomenal. We gave our best attempt at French, but our server quickly clocked that we were American and still treated us incredibly kindly. We originally sat at one of those tiny quintessential Parisian café tables, imagining a light little breakfast moment. But then we ordered the American breakfast, and suddenly the table situation became mathematically impossible. Without hesitation, our server moved all of our things to a larger table to accommodate the absolute spread we accidentally ordered. And honestly? It was exactly what we needed upon arrival. The croissants were flaky and buttery, the food arrived hot, and the orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. The bacon was slightly undercooked by American standards… but we are not in America, and we are not complaining to the French. The sun was shining — which, as it turns out, was both the first and last time we saw it during the entire trip — and sitting there in Saint-Germain-des-Prés felt like the perfect welcome back to a city I absolutely adore. Some meals are memorable because the food is extraordinary. Others become memorable because of timing, atmosphere, and how a place makes you feel in a moment. This one was both. Verdict: No Notes.

We were warmly welcomed on our arrival and instantly felt the warm atmosphere within the restaurant. The menu had a great range of options and the staff were very friendly. Our food was exceptional and we didn't have to wait long between meals. The best Indian food I have had in Paris by far, I would highly recommend a visit.

It was like magic! Finding such a quality place in a busy and touristic Saint Michel area was not expected! It's a real gem, the food is so tasty and the portions are big. I recommend you to order chicken for the entrée;) What you see in the picture is just starters!

It's a cute place that's open late night you can order food till four 5 AM and it is decent. I would suggest going with items that would probably get ordered more rather than anything special. They also do Cabaret events, which is definitely a tourist trap, but it's not worth it. The piano bar upstairs, which is free is pretty cute and has a great atmosphere.

Second time in this place, this time weekend and it was just wonderful. Ambiance, live singing and piano, delicious food and drinks, friendly staff. This is a place for people who love live singing and edgy panache atmosphere. We were lucky to have different performers and everyone is so talented. This place is for people with a soul 🥰 who appreciate warmth ams passion vibes. I always make reservations to guarantee immediate availability. Gets really busy after 9pm.

We came to the restaurant for a late dinner around 10 PM. The place operates as a piano bar, with a live pianist and a singer who moves around the restaurant and performs near the tables. While this concept might appeal to some, it may not suit everyone – especially when the singer approaches your table while you're in the middle of chewing your food. We ordered two burgers and a steak. Unfortunately, the food was rather disappointing. The burgers were dry, served in equally dry buns, and lacked flavor. The steak, although requested medium, arrived lukewarm and overcooked to well-done. Overall, while the atmosphere may appeal to fans of live music and performance dining, the food did not meet expectations. It’s a place that might work for the experience, but not necessarily for the meal itself.

I'm always amazed by the quality of this shop. Of course, the chocolates are excellent, but what surprises me every time is the kindness and thoughtful touches the owner and staff show each customer. They take the time to advise and explain! It's nothing like the previous team! Keep up the great work, you're fantastic!

I’ve always loved the combination of Japanese and French cuisine - especially Japanese ingredients and flavors cooked in French style. Sola surprises you with each dish - subtle creativity layered with delightful umami presented so beautifully. I thought the light and dry sake or their sake based beer Hikari paired perfectly with the 10 course meal. The portions are generous so go hungry and factor in at least 2-2.5hours for the dinner course. I was seated at the high counter seat dining alone but try to book the Japanese tatami style seating in the basement cellar for a more intimate experience if you can.

We had a truly wonderful dining experience. The menu offered a delicate fusion of Japanese and French cuisine. Each dish was beautifully presented, refined, intricate, and thoughtfully composed. The flavours were equally impressive, and overall the food was delicious. If I were to mention a small critique, it would be the venison course, which felt slightly out of place alongside the rest of the menu. While well-prepared, it didn’t quite align with the flow of the other dishes and could have been omitted without detracting from the experience. In terms of ambience, the layout has a couple of minor drawbacks. Some tables are positioned near the entrance, and you may notice a draft each time the door opens which is unpleasant especially in the winter season. Additionally, we had the the high counter seating which is less comfortable than the regular tables. For the best experience, I would recommend requesting downstairs seating or a standard table when making your reservation. That said, these are small considerations in what was otherwise an exceptional evening. The service was impeccable, and the overall dining experience was memorable and thoroughly enjoyable.

Insane experience. Crazy good food. Lovely service! I’ve been wanting to visit this place for a while, and it absolutely did not disappoint. My girlfriend and I booked the “cave” experience. Upon arrival, you’re led downstairs into a cave-like space where you even take off your shoes and switch into slippers, kind of like entering a Japanese home. Such a unique and immersive touch. The food was incredible from start to finish. As you go through the courses, there are subtle Japanese influenced ingredients and flavors that reveal themselves in a really thoughtful way. What surprised me even more was the wine pairing: a mix of whites and sakes that worked beautifully🍷🍶 Overall, 10/10 experience!! Oh a heads up, no WiFi or cell service down there🤣

Returning to Sola for my second visit, I was seated in the Japanese-style stone cellar downstairs. The atmosphere remains undeniably poetic, and the chef’s philosophy—reflected in the artistic, broken tableware—commands deep respect. The tasting menu was a journey of delicate precision. The Saint-Jacques (Scallops) paired with persimmon and soy ricotta offered a surprising yet harmonious texture, while the main course of Canard (Duck), served with chanterelles and a garlic-soy sauce, was cooked to absolute perfection, rich and savory. However, a few practical notes for future diners. As the staff graciously warned, there is zero phone or internet signal in the basement. I was expecting important calls, which made the disconnection a bit stressful. If staying online is vital for you, request a table on the ground floor. Additionally, Sola’s signature service style is interactive, often asking guests to "guess" ingredients before revealing them (blind tasting). While this fosters fun communication, it can feel like a task when you simply want to unwind. When I expressed a preference to skip the guessing and just hear the explanations, the staff kindly stopped immediately and guided me through the menu with ease. For first-time visitors: if you are seeking pure healing rather than an intellectual challenge, do not hesitate to let the staff know. Their flexibility turned a good meal into a truly comfortable experience.

Sola was one of the most memorable dining experiences we had in Paris. The restaurant achieves something incredibly difficult: a true fusion of French and Japanese cuisine where neither tradition is compromised. Every course felt thoughtful, balanced, and deeply intentional, blending refined French technique with Japanese precision and restraint in a way that felt completely seamless. We dined in the Japanese room, which was absolutely beautiful and created such an immersive atmosphere. Guests remove their shoes and wear slippers inside, which immediately transports you into a calm, intimate space that feels worlds away from the bustle of Paris. The entire experience carried a gorgeous organic wabi-sabi aesthetic, made even more special by the fact that the chef is also a master ceramist who crafted many of the plates, bowls, and serving pieces himself. It added an incredible sense of artistry and cohesion to the meal, where every element, from the food to the presentation to the ceramics themselves, felt part of one holistic vision. The omakase was exceptional from beginning to end. Standout dishes included the delicate mackerel with tamari, beetroot and amazu, the incredibly earthy mushroom risotto with truffle foam and kombucha sauce, and the lamb with garlic, soy, and Coteaux du Layon sauce, which was deeply savory and perfectly balanced. Even the desserts felt inventive and elegant, particularly the kiwi sorbet with seaweed gelée and the strawberry and tonka ice cream combination. Every dish was immaculately plated and visually stunning without ever feeling gimmicky. We also opted for the wine and sake pairing, which was fantastic and one of our favorite parts of the experience. I absolutely loved the way the pairings moved between French wines and Japanese sake throughout the meal. It reinforced the fusion concept beautifully and allowed each course to shine in a different way. One of our favorite aspects of the evening was the staff. The sommeliers and servers elevated the experience tremendously. Rather than immediately explaining each course, they encouraged us to truly taste and interpret the dishes ourselves first, which made the meal feel interactive and deeply memorable. Their knowledge and guidance throughout the pairings were exceptional as well. We also greatly appreciated how accommodating the team was. We had another commitment later in the evening, and after letting them know in advance, they ensured the pacing of our meal worked perfectly within our timeline without ever making the experience feel rushed. The full omakase lasted around 2.5 to 3 hours and was worth every minute. Sola is a rare restaurant that feels transporting, artistic, and deeply personal all at once. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable fine dining experience in Paris.

Truly enjoyed my evening here. The service was superb - so fast and thoughtful. The waiter saw me struggling to get service on my phone and immediately connected me to the Wifi! Very rare indeed. The band were highly skilled. I’ve been watching live Jazz bands around the World and I knew immediately they were top notch. I just wish that other guests were more respectful to the musicians and staff. We encountered some very rude people who kept talking so loudly over the musicians and seemed interested in only recording videos for their social media (??) I thought they were also very rude to the kind waiter when they asked loudly “MENUUUUU. You know MENU?”. The waiter was most professional in dealing with them. The food and wine was fantastic. My friend had the chicken fingers - so crispy and juicy. I had the charcuterie and the cheese was so yummy. A most comfortable place. Clean and with AC. Highly recommend this lovely spot. My friend and I really enjoyed ending our night out here. We felt safe and welcomed - most important for female travellers. I hope to come here again soon.

We came to Monk for a late dinner and since it was pouring rain outside we decided to take a table deep inside the restaurant. From our table we could see the water running down the cobblestone street and hear the thunders but we were warm and protected from the wind and cold. We had the hamburger without the cheese and beef tab with French fries. Both portions were big enough to satisfy the strong appetite. The beef was very tender and juicy. It was served with a tiny dish with caramelized onions and a small garden salad. The service was quick and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The prices are reasonable too. It was interesting to hear Freddy Mercury, Queens, The Weekend and Ariana Grande as a background music in France. We also ordered a warm chocolate dessert with a vanilla ice cream, but couldn’t finish it. It was very good, only we overestimated our abilities. 😊 We had our very late dinner and when we left around 11:00 pm and there were still people in the restaurant. I definitely recommend you to try this place.

We were a group of 6 in Paris to watch Rugby. We were lucky to find this bar on our first night. The staff were very welcoming and friendly,the food & beer were excellent. There was live music which was also excellent. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we went there for each of our four nights in Paris. I hope to return sometime.

It was a delight to find an all vegetarian restaurant right outside the Notre Dame. It’s a cute place but hidden in one of the smaller streets of Paris. The food was fresh and flavorful. Well presented. The portions were just adequate. I was only upset that I could not try more dishes. I strongly recommend the team to develop more recipes. This is a wonderful concept. The staff were kind and helpful and bore with my broken French.

After comparing with local prices of same bottle, we realised the restaurant’s markup on that bottle was quite high. Not the restaurant’s fault, but sharing this for awareness.

Cute, tiny vegetarian restaurant! Only one guy doing every single job there, so there will be a bit of a wait for everything. I found that some of the prices were a bit elevated, but that may be because of the ingredients used? I thought the foie gras was just alright, but the brownie was great!

Apparently, this is the oldest vegetarian restaurant in France, in activity since 1978! It's in an incredibly (and unexpectedly) quiet street literally 100 meters from Notre Dame, and it's a very nice restaurant. I had lunch with my family there and we had the basmati rice with veggies, the baked potatoes and sweet potatoes + veggies + tofu with sauce (spicy!), and the two vegan desserts (I would certainly recommend the brownie with ice cream - you can choose the flavour). I appreciate the possibility to get traditional/naturally vegan dishes here, rather than fake meat or other vegan dishes that you can find in several vegan restaurants nowadays. We also ordered some baked potatoes for my kid and they were reeeeeeeally good!

Beautiful interior. You can tell locals like it here. Excellent tea. I had apple crumble which was very delicious. Very comforting. It’s quiet and quaint with one server who was very polite and accommodating with English menu. My husband had the eggs duxelles and juice with cappuccino which he liked very much. We will come back to Paris and visit here again and will recommend here to others.

In a very cold winter day, after walking for hours in the city, The Tea Caddy was a nice stop to warm up a bit. They have a big collection of tea. One tea pot can serve 2-3 mugs of tea and it’s quite nice. Service is helpful with your order.

Great spot for tea lovers. And if you want to eat real scones with real clotted cream, this is the place. The service is very nice. The girl working there was lovely. She took the time to advice me on the different teas so I could chose the right one.

Very sweet little tea shop. We enjoyed Rooibos Tea. We showed up about 25 minutes until closing. They were very welcoming and the tea was delicious. They are located across a tiny park on a little cobblestone street. I highly recommend a visit if you love loose tea.
