We made the mistake of going on Xmas eve when they jack the price up to 350 each... There was a small sign on the door in Portuguese but we didn't know what it said, so we were very surprised when the bill showed up. Of course, they still tried their best to upsell us on drinks and desserts as soon as you get in and once we finished eating, they made us wait a long time to pay while the dessert and after-dinner drink guy came by to try to sell us more add-ons. The buffet was nice, tons of fruit and a bit of sushi. The meat was never ending and good, but heavily salted (which makes you want to order a drink). They don't really offer the prices of anything unless you ask, so if you're not careful you can end up with a hefty bill.

Amazing place everything was great and food was amazing! Desert was amazing but its not included in the price. But it was still good. The food was amazing and good service.

All waiters were very friendly and it’s a better Brazilian meat buffet I had eaten. They even served prawns and chicken wings. Love their choices of drinks and desserts. They even made me felt so special

All you can eat churrascarias
-22.984643°, -43.198416° The classic grill at Carretão Ipanema offers a traditional Brazilian rodízio (steakhouse) dining experience in a bustling environment and focuses mainly on tourists, sometimes at the expense of authenticity and quality. The extensive salad bar, with salads, cheeses, sushi and hot dishes, looked fresh and varied.
In April 2025, friendly and accommodating staff cut make frequent rounds with different kinds of meat from large BBQ skewers. Some cuts tasted very good, but some were over-salted, dry or tough. Be picky. Drinks and desserts are not free and the total cost of a menu was R$368.
Carretão Ipanema classic grill offers a traditional barbecue dining experience, but be picky.

Great service, the food was so delicious, a very good selection of meat and the buffet was so much to choose from. Pasta salad, sushi, green salads, rice and beans, vegetables and so many others like empanadas omg so delicious. And the service was really up top. We really felt very comfortable with everyone from the front all the way until pay time.. everything was excellent we will definitely come back.

My fav place to go for açaí in Ipanema. It's soooooooo good. Uma delicia 💗
Jay T Blondek - a week ago
I was looking for a local food during my stay in Rio de Janeiro (my first time in Brazil btw) and I found this one on google maps.
I had the combination of two of the best amazonas’ dishes (according to the menu) Mix avatars + manicoba.
The food was really tasty.
Sadly they don’t have much options on the menu. Only one dish for vegetarian. The price is a bit higher than the portion of their servings.
All in all, it was a good experience.

This place is borderline scam. Prices are VERY expensive and portions are VERY small. Quality is below average (except of Acai)
Acai is nice, nothing crazy and 'wow blew my mind' but its definitely the best acai I have ever tried in Rio. (it just tastes the way it should, nothing crazy)
If you are for Acai, come. Otherwise dont bother with other dishes
Iakob Kv - a year ago
This place is so exceptional. I've eaten here multiple times each trip to Rio (over years), usually after a day at the beach. If you are in Brazil and want to get the real acai, this is the place. Be aware it has a bitter taste, so adding the honey option helps to smooth the flavor without making it sweet. The nutrients and fiber are fantastic. Can't go wrong adding banana or granola. You can sit inside or out. The acai is cold, so it's great on a hot day, or nice to enjoy outside on an evening or cooler day. Enjoy the real taste you just won't get in other places in the world (or most of Rio)

Karen Jorgensen - a week ago
Our first dinner in Rio started here. My spouse found an article on Lonely Planet of this place that serves one of Brazil's well-known dishes, feijoada.
ATMOSPHERE:
The no-frills space is your typical mom & pop kind of place with indoor & outdoor seating. We had a late dinner so the place was dead due to the hour and time of month we were here. Late June is Rio's off-peak tourism season, we were told.
MENU:
Feijoada, traditional Brazilian cuisine, desserts.
BEVERAGE:
Lime & Passionfruit Cocktails - A shot glass of the stuff comes with the feijoada meal. I believe it's similar to the national drink of caipirinha.
Bohemian
The national beer which is a smooth brew.
FOOD:
Fried Sausages
We were served a spoonful each of diced chorizos which of course was tasty and went great with our beer.
Bean Soup
The smallest cup of the tastiest bean soup was consumed. I'm not a fan of black beans, which I think they were, but this was absolutely tasty and piping hot.
Traditional Feijoada
It's a Portuguese stew loaded with jerk meat, sausages, ribs and pork loin. We axed the pig ear, feet, tail and tongue. The pot came bubbling to the table, everything still cooking in the savory, dark brown gravy. Accompaniments were rice, fried manioc (AKA cassava which is a tree root), garlic collard greens, farofa (toasted cassava flour with the texture of bread crumbs), torresminho (pork rinds), and slices of orange which is said to aid in digestion. You just spoon each food on your plate like normal, keeping the pork rinds and manioc separate to keep their dry/crunchy textures. It was extremely hearty and tasty. We could not finish the pot nor the accompaniments which can be replenished.
DESSERT:
Included with the meal were three flavors of homemade compotes; pumpkin & coconut sweet chutney, banana, and milk. Not having a sweet tooth, I tried a tiny spoonful of each. They all tasted spot-on to their titles, with the milk recipe being my favorite.
SERVICE:
Female server took great care of us! She was very friendly and professional, even aiding us with the serving of our feijoada. Communication was a breeze.
TIPS:
Try to pay with cash. My credit card got compromised while in Rio and I'm not sure where it happened, so this tip appears on all my reviews where I paid with it.
The surrounding neighborhood was a little shady at night, so definitely Uber/cab it.
They're open from noon till midnight-ish, depending on demand.
OVERALL:
Quaint vibe, great food and service.

We have loved dining at Gero
since 2017, year after year.
Whenever we return to Rio,
this is the place that brings us here.
The food is exquisite, deeply delicious,
crafted with care and flawless precision.
And the risotto — simply unmatched,
the best in the world, no comparison.
Every dish arrives as a moment,
thoughtful, refined, and perfectly done.
A meal at Gero lingers in memory
long after the evening is gone.
The entire staff is warm and welcoming,
gracious beyond expectation.
The service is exceptional —
truly over-the-top in the best possible way.
And then the bar: the very best anywhere.
Primo, Vagner and DuDu create pure art.
Extraordinary drinks, beautifully made,
served with joy and heart.
We highly recommend dinner at Gero.
We return every time we visit Rio.
It makes us genuinely happy —
a place we love, a place that feels like home.

Nice atmosphere and a nice place, the food was good but very over priced, if you are into wine, the wine chart was not very good selected, if you want a really good wine, the prices were ridiculous. I have never been to a place that multiply fine wine this much, not even three star Michelin does this.
The day after I went to a one star Michelin in Ipanema and the wine prices were very good, where they should be, and the food was excellent and at the same price range as this restaurant.
I will not visit again!

Fantastic ambiance and top notch service. Food leaves much to be desired. Breads were generally excellent, butter average, as are the sundried tomato and classic pesto.
Appetizers, mains, and desserts were all very underwhelming. The scallop trio had one that was over-salted. The lobster pasta although al dente, had very little depth and balance in the sauce. The profiteroles were fine - the ice cream that came with it was surprisingly crystallized. Disappointing overall for a restaurant housed in Fasano. That said, kudos to the mixologist. The cocktail was EXCELLENT.

Service and atmosphere was great but the food was a bit disappointing. The tabouli was way too salty, the baked kibe was dry and there was too much tahini in the babaganoush. Obviously that's my tastes but the overall experience was good and filling.
Kari Q. - 2 years ago
Got the appetizer sampler and the katfa dish along with a caprihina and a draft beer. Portions are large. The appetizer had taziki, hummus and babaganush. They were all bland but there are sauces like garlic and pepper that you can add to spice them up. The katfa dish was nice with the added fried onions a nice touch. The caprihina was perfectly balanced. The draft beer was pretty warm snd was soon flat. I would reccomend the Katfa and the caprihina. The katfa would be ok to share between to people as a small meal.

A Good value meal in Ipanema and nice spot to see Ipanema’s routine. I live near Copanema Mix and I have my meals there at least once a week. It’s cheap, quickly and the staff are super nice. You can have fresh juices there, meals and sandwiches. I would skip snacks, pizza and deserts. There are excellent combos for breakfast and lunch.

Really chill spot, I received the carne asado Plato de dia.
I ordered it Togo and the waiter actually knew what I meant so that was great!

Try to speak Portuguese and maybe ask for dressing with the salad.

The place is filthy and it has a dirty appearance to it. The helpers or make believe that they are waitresses have a poor look to them, their "uniform" needs a good cleaning and generally speaking it has a dirty appearance all around. I was kind enough to give it 3 stars........

Big Nectar is the least expensive most delicious restaurant in the city, and they're all across Rio.
Note: If you're ordering, tell the cashier directly, bc the staff is quite exhausted. They're not trying to be rude, Big Nectar is busy from open to close everyday.

Located right at the corner of a very busy street in iPanema, 1 block from the metro and 2 blocks from the beach this juice bar gets really busy especially on the weekends. With their extensive menu, you and your buddies can munch on the local favorites like salgados, tapiocas or choose from the many exotic fruit juices. There are is really no bad outcomes here. Prices are inline with the similar places around the area. Give it a chance, you will like it.

It is not the best fillet mignon I tried but it is the best for the price. I paid 30 BRL for fillet mignon and it was in good size. I also got lemon juice and it was only 11 BRL for 500ml. Definitely recommended as a budget option.

Another great restaurant on the Square. Medium-rare Steak, Smashed Potato and fries done to perfection. 👌🏼 Very friendly and attentive service in both Portuguese and some English speaking staff. We sat outside, inside looked amazing though. Affordable pricing (+- R$90 for the Beef/Steak meals) — I would highly recommend!

My starter ceviche was tiny and not very tasty and the main dish (seafood skewer) was overcooked. The side dish (potatoes etc.) was downright mushy.
My husband enjoyed his food a bit better but not excellent.
I would not order wine here, though... bottles stocked on shelves in bright light, warm temperature and vertical position, sure way to ruin even a good wine. There is no wine list, either.
On a positive note, the decor is nice and the service is quick and friendly.

One of th best meals that I had in Rio. Amazing authentic menu featuring Portuguese favorites. Great wine selection, Port and cocktail menu. The cod is the star of the show but many other options. The Seafood risotto was a favorite. Includes a high end deli style market. Be prepared Seating is limited and a lot of times a wait even on weekdays.

Traditional Portuguese food. It's just weird that there are so many wines but not a wine menu. They have a sommelier but he didn't come to our table, the waiter just recommended a wine -which is fine for me but maybe other non Portuguese speaking tourists. In any case, I would always want to check the wine menu and have a better idea of the wine I'm choosing. Food was good, not remarkable.

I went here twice on my Rio trip.
The spaghetti bolognese were very “ketchupy” and spaghetti carbonara very creamy, but amazingly seasoned.
So I was actually very happy over all

I actually thought this was a Portuguese cuisine restaurant - my fault! However, the Italian food was well presented. Service was great, friendly staff, greeted and seated instantly. Great tasting sugar-free Limao Caipirinha (probably the best I’ve had in Rio). The only downside to me was the brown/dark sauce over the Spaghetti in the Fillet Mignon dish — it had a slight bitter taste to it. An English/South African person would describe it as a “Bovril” or “Marmite” taste — but, ate it all nonetheless.

Great food, good service (the desert suggestion was not so good, too sweet) and the sauce was extremely hot, I burned my mouth, they could have advised… but the flavor was awesome. Really great pasta and the parmigiana was tasty.
