Believe it or not, there will be days when you just do not feel like spending time on the crowded beaches of Rio de Janeiro, but also do not want to restrict yourself to your hotel room. This is where the many parks of Rio will come in very handy. Praca Paris is one such beautiful park.

You will find Praca Paris in the Glory neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. It was built in 1926 under the guidance of Alfred Crouch on the site of the first landfill of Rio. His vision was an elegant Parisian garden. He included a large number of almond trees and plenty of works of art and various sculptures. Some of these monuments are Carrara's marble cats, a statue of Marshal Deodoro da Fonescu done in bronze, and a light fountain which has jets of water twenty five feet high and nine different lighting displays.

The fountain is truly magnificent to see. The dolphins on the fountain are exact replicas of those found on the famous fountain in Marseilles. During the celebrations of 2011 and 2012 the fountain had over nine thousand LED bulbs arranged to produce different colors and intensities which changed every five minutes. The display was designed by Giancarlo Neri and was on display for several days.

The Praca Paris that you see today is not the original, though the design is as close to the original as possible. The original was destroyed during the construction fo the subway system in Rio de Janeiro. it was rebuilt and restored to its former glory in 1992. It is during the reconstruction that the railings were added to its borders to protect the park. These railing help to make the park a safer place for the joggers and picnickers who frequent its green strips and trails. There is also a strong police presence to help keep crime as low as possible.

There are many parks in Rio de Janeiro. Make time to visit at least a few and be sure that Praca Paris with its magnificent fountain and beautiful sculptures is on your list.
