A top-located hotel with a slightly old-style charm but a very nice atmosphere and very good service. We booked a room with a king-size bed and a sofa bed. The space was a bit limited, but the comfort was good. We were also able to enjoy the minibar without any additional charge.
We also tried the restaurant (Platform 7) and the quality of the food and beverages was very good. Thanks to Anna and Antonio, who were really helpful and improved our experience. As hotel guests, we also benefited from a discount.
We can only recommend it.

Great location to see downtown London. Staff were great, rooms and room cleaning service was great! Convenient to catch train, tube or train. Lots of restaurants around Hotel. Would highly recommend if visiting London! They even kept our luggage for us on the last day after check out so we could do more site seeing before our flight. Oh yeah the free mini bar and coffee were a nice touch and restocked every day!

The hotel is well situated near leicester metro or charing cross.
The first half of our stay starts well but the Last two days not so good.
The room was not done even when we ask so we didnt have water bottle or towel (hopefully we ask to the front desk and they send us a fresh set). Last day no hot water for the shower. We ask to the front desk again and they said they will check and call us back. We are still waiting their call.
The breakfast is good but i dont recommend the milk porridge. It s micro wave or an old batch because on the surface it was hard and a skin formed.
The Window are not sound proof. We can still here outside and the Subway and all the person above and in the hallway.
So if your looking only for the localisation it s good but for a 4 stars hotel, i wouldnt recommend it for all the other aspect

Excellent location. We stayed at this hotel for four nights last week and found it extremely convenient for getting around. Most major tourist attractions are within walking distance or just a short trip by metro. It’s located right next to the theatre district and Soho, which is perfect for exploring the city.
The room was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is housed in a historic building and is beautifully decorated and well maintained. However, the room itself was quite simple and didn’t feel very warm. There is constant ventilation in the bathroom, which made it even colder, especially when taking a shower. The shower is over a bathtub without a cabin, and the bathroom was always completely flooded after use.
Soundproofing was also quite poor. We could constantly hear footsteps from the room above, and the noise was unusual — a creaking sound, as if someone were walking on wooden boards.

My wife and I stayed at The Clermont London, Charing Cross for three nights last weekend and very much enjoyed our visit.
Considering the generally high accommodation prices in central London, the hotel offers very good value for money. Its location is almost unbeatable: right next to Charing Cross Station and within immediate walking distance of Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, the Strand and Piccadilly Circus. Built directly on top of the station, it is also exceptionally well connected by underground and bus.
The hotel itself has retained much of its grand, historic charm, which gives it a special atmosphere. The rooms are well equipped, and both service quality and staff friendliness are outstanding. We had stayed here many years ago, when the hotel was still called Amba, and were pleasantly surprised that we were remembered and warmly welcomed again — including a lovely “welcome back” chocolate cake in our room, which was a very thoughtful touch.
The restaurant and bar are also highlights: stylish and elegant, with great ambience, attentive service and a classic, refined interior.
Of course, when staying in such a central location, one should be aware that rooms facing the front, while offering fantastic views of the Strand, St Martin-in-the-Fields and even parts of Trafalgar Square, are not completely quiet. Rooms at the back are much quieter, though the view is limited to the station’s roof.
Overall, we would be very happy to return and can warmly recommend The Clermont London, Charing Cross to anyone looking for a charming, well-located and welcoming hotel in the heart of London.

Had very good pre-theatre menu here last night. Very reasonable and although limited choice of starter, main and dessert they were all excellent - salmon starter, minute steak and cheesecake. It is and impressive high ceiling.dining room inside an hotel. Our waiter was great as well.

We went here yesterday for the pre-theatre menu and it generally wasn't a great experience. From arriving to getting our starter took 35 minutes, and considering the starters were just mushroom parfait and so didn't require cooking, this was a bit long. This then meant that we had barely any time for our mains and I wasn't able to finish mine before I had to run to collect tickets from the theatre. If somewhere offers a pre-theatre menu I do expect them to be able to deliver 2 courses within the 70 minutes that we had available.
The food itself was a bit hit and miss. The mushroom parfait was ok if not hugely flavourful, but the focaccia that came with it was really good. My beef dish was great, but my husband's chicken dish was a bit bizarre. The chicken dish was the only main in which you were obviously meant to add a side otherwise you are just eating chicken and 1 piece of lettuce. A bit weird when all the other dishes are complete dishes.
In summary, food was fine but nothing special, but the slowness of the service just means that this place is not somewhere you can go pre-theatre (despite the menu) unless you have a full 90-100 minutes available.

A second late lunch a boyds. Food service and staff excellent. Love it here, not rushed, lovely ambience. After enjoying late lunch we went to the theatre and came back to boyds for cocktails and drinks. Wonderful atmosphere and all the staff so helpful and friendly. Shiraz makes the very best cocktails, a work of art and taste like a dream! Amazing experience in boyds. Not to mention, great value for money. Highly recommend this venue, escape the crowds, the noise and enjoy the high end treatment from the staff and Wonderful cuisine at the very best prices. A true hidden gem 💎 ✨️ 💖

It was fantastic here!
The location was fantastic - right by Trafalgar Square. The pub was lovely inside, great atmosphere and was very spacious.
I am gluten free and they were brilliant with this.
Would definitely recommend!

I was disappointed with several aspects of my visit.
Firstly, the food did not match the quality or presentation depicted in the photos posted in the reviews by the pub, which was concerning given the limited number of other customer reviews. Furthermore, I found the service to be very poor. It appeared that employees preferred to stay behind the bar, and there were no dedicated servers. Guests were required to order and collect every item from the bar. Overall, the food itself was subpar.
Note:
If you want superb drinks, food and service to match from a Pub got to "The Larrik" you will thank me I promise.

This restaurant is cosy, spacious, has seemingly unlimited tables, serves tasty burgers and (!) you can order via an app. I loved that we didn't have to flag down a waiter, because they never see me. This was perfection.

There are a lot of tables to sit from but it can get really crowded early in the evening so I would recommend getting there a good time to get a table. The staff were friendly and attentive and kept the all the tables clean. The meat pie with chips were delicious especially trying it for the first time, overall a great pub.

I booked this hotel due to location to His Majestys theatre, it is a hidden gem. In the centre of Leicester Square but no noise when in the rooms.
A superbly clean hotel, reception team were friendly and helpful.
The room I had booked had a lovely gift and balloons for a birthday and then returning after some shopping, there was yet another gift in our room.
The best birthday celebration.
The attention to detail for the customers, respect and hospitality over all was exceptional. The Thistle Group shoukd be so proud of the high standards that were experienced at this hotel.
I will certainly be staying there again.

Hotel is central to some great London landmarks and theatres. Rooms are small but comfortable and have everything you need for a short stay. Some of the staff were lovely, but others didn't really seem to want to engage with guests. The food was very disappointing. Breakfast was luke warm and the porridge very runny. We ate in the bar&kitchen for dinner and I would not recommend. The cheeseburger was not cooked fresh and everything seemed to just be thrown on the plate.
I would stay here again, but I wouldn't pay for the food!

A few good things , the location is the best , between Piccadilly Circus and leicester square, you can't beat that.
The breakfast is much better than a lot of hotels in London, English breakfast plus, and the staff are nice ,at the reception and dining room.
We paid for a dlx room , got on the 6th floor, the room was fair in size, the big problem was that we entered the room, and at first we didn't saw it, but when i was barefoot to go to the shower, and opened the lights we saw the carpet was with millions of shattered glasses , they didn't vacuum the carpet at all from the previous guest!!!!
Luckily i saw all the shining from the light on the floor and didn't stepped more.
To add to this, we didn't have water at all till the night, because there was a problem in all the hotel, and after that had to wait after midnight for hot water .
I have the video of the carpet full of glasses if anyone from the hotel chain thinks im exaggerating, since it was so late so stayed in the room ,and asked from housekeeping to vacuum it , she needed to do it twice since there were little pieces of glass all over the room.
In a normal hotel the management would immediately take care of it , no one approach us , no apologies, nothing.
I never write a bad reviews in all my journeys , but that was a very bad experience for us.

We easily made a reservation online just a couple hours before we went. The mulled wine and fish and chips were the best we had on our entire trip. Atmosphere was fun, historic and service was great. Conveniently located, easy walk from our hotel at Charing Cross. I would 100% go back again.

Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff, good food and it was before John the manager showed us what hospitality really means, he took us on a tour around the place - there is a tribute to Sherlock upstairs. This place should be on the must see map of London.

This is hands down one of the best pubs in London, and what makes it even more unique is that it’s literally split into two buildings with a tunnel underground connecting them—a quirky detail that adds so much charm to the visit. The atmosphere is stunning, with a beautifully traditional interior that feels warm and inviting. It’s the perfect place to unwind, whether you’re after a quiet pint or a cozy evening with friends. The vibe strikes just the right balance of historic character and relaxing comfort.
The food here is a real highlight. Everything is fresh, full of flavor, and great value for money—elevating the experience far beyond your standard pub fare. From hearty mains to lighter bites, every dish feels thoughtfully prepared and consistently delicious. The beer selection is excellent, with plenty of variety on tap, and the top shelf spirits are equally impressive. All in all, this pub is a must-visit for anyone looking for authentic character, excellent food, and a fantastic drinking experience in the heart of London.
Definitely a very easy 5*****

I can fully understand why The Ship & Shovel is in the Good Beer Guide, it's a cracker.
Selling a full range of Badger Beers, this is a welcome change to the many London pubs who sell Timothy Taylor Landlord!
You can move between the two bars, yes, you have to see it to believe it. Plenty of seating and on a nice day plenty of outdoor standing area.
Food is served but this really is a cracking drinkers pub.

A great pub experience. While crowded, it was also laid back. Some customers often stand outside to drink and talk; we chose to sit in a corner inside, just to the left of the front door.

The Harp is a small boozer within walking distance of Charing Cross station, to be honest it's not a pub I would stay in for more than a few pints. The Guinness I had was average, maybe I got the Guinness on an off day.
I still think it is worth visiting if you're in the area.

The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, but the four seasons pizza outshined them. Four sections of different toppings and all four where fantastic.

A pleasant Pizza Express, with a lovely large downstairs area where most of the seating is. Reading other reviews, I would agree this Pizza Express is busy, and likewise the prices are more expensive than most other branches of Pizza Express but that is something you should bare in mind should you choose to eat in an extremely busy part of Central London. It is conveniently placed restaurant being near lots of the theatres in the west end
end. Service was mostly good, there was one occasion we asked for something and unfortunately we're forgotten about. I am sympathetic to this being one of the busiest Pizza Expresses there is. Otherwise, food and drinks were enjoyable and met expectations.
Anonymous Reviewer - 2 months ago
On 31st December, my brother and I were staying at the Club Quarters Hotel, and since this Pizza Express branch was extremely close, we decided to go there around 4:00 PM.
There was already a long queue when we arrived. We waited patiently for around 15 minutes before we were finally seated. After sitting down, we looked through the menu, made our decision, and then waited another 15 minutes but no one came to take our order.
After that, we tried to get the attention of the staff. One of the team members told us someone would come to take our order, but another 10 minutes passed and still no one came. At this point, we were getting frustrated, and so were several other customers who had been seated around the same time as us and were also waiting.
Eventually, we asked again and this is where the experience turned very unpleasant.
One staff member (the one in the striped shirt, shown in the photo I attached) literally shouted at us, saying:
“Can’t you see we are busy?”
That response shocked us. We had been extremely patient, waiting nearly 40 minutes in total just to place an order. I told him that if they were so busy, then they should not continue seating new customers while existing ones are still waiting to be served. I also told him that I would be writing a review and mentioning his behaviour.
He then gave me a very aggressive and hostile look, which made the situation even more uncomfortable.
Shortly after that, another staff member (the one in the checkered shirt) came over, handled the situation professionally, and finally took our order. To his credit, he was polite, calm, and clearly understood that the situation had been mishandled.
The food itself was really, really good and arrived quite quickly which made the whole situation even more confusing, because the kitchen clearly wasn’t the problem. It was purely a service issue.
However, even while we were eating, the same staff member who had shouted at us passed by our table rudely, which completely ruined the atmosphere of the meal. What should have been a relaxed New Year’s Eve dinner turned into one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time, simply because of how we were treated.

I had a really pleasant experience at The Chandos in London and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed and welcoming pub atmosphere. The place felt warm and friendly, with staff who were approachable and happy to help. It’s the kind of environment where you can comfortably enjoy a drink, chat with friends, or simply unwind after a long day exploring the city.
One thing to note is that if you want to order food, you’ll need to head upstairs. This wasn’t a problem at all and actually added a bit of character to the experience. The upstairs area is spacious and comfortable, making it a nice spot to sit down and enjoy a proper meal away from the main bar area.
The beer selection is impressive, with lots of options to choose from, whether you prefer classic ales, lagers, or something a bit different. It’s a great place for beer lovers who enjoy having variety rather than just a couple of standard choices.
As for the food, I was genuinely satisfied. The quality was good, everything tasted fresh, and the portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming. It felt like good value for money, especially considering the central London location.
Overall, The Chandos offers a great combination of friendly service, a cozy atmosphere, solid food, and an excellent range of beers. It’s the kind of place you remember positively after your visit. I will definitely make a point of stopping by again on my next trip to London.

It was a rainy day in London, and it was a lunch time. I decided that fish and chips would also be very traditional. This pub has 2 separate parts. The firs floor to drink, the second floor with a separate entrance to eat. The food was very good. The only inconvenience was that you need to pay at the register first and and then they will bring you a food. The atmosphere is great, I was near the fire place. The view from the window was spectacular. I love this pub.

We really enjoyed our lunch in this traditional English pub - bangers and mash plus a steak pie. Nothing wrong with the quality at all. I had the Samual Smith lager and it was as good as any and served with a smile! Plenty of seating upstairs for dining as the ground floor is for the drinkers.

I was looking for a quiet spot for meal and a cold pint after a day spent walking around London. I happened upon The Chandos outside of Covent Garden. I stopped in and was directed upstairs to the dining room. I had exceptional service from the bartender, Riley, who was quick with my drinks and very good company. The space is lovely, the food is delicious and when you need a little respite from the crowds and chaos, go here. You’ll be so glad you did! The fish and chips are wonderful and the organic wheat beer from Sam Adam’s hit the spot!
