Back alley classic London pub hidden in a narrow lane of the City. Superb London street drinking. Dark wood Victorian city pub interior. Excellent larger than it looks, split level drinking hall with plenty of open space, quiet corners and mix of vintage, leather studded, wood framed corner benches and high stools. Wood panelled walls and brilliant wood beamed ceiling. Glass paned and balustrades divide the space creating and open feeling, yet secluded and private corners. Excellent, retained features and layout allow you to imagine pub history from over a hundred years ago. Well balanced sounds, an place for open chat with groups, this pub has character on tap.

Louis totally took care of us. We showed up just before they put down food service and he made sure the kitchen got our order in. Cleared off and reserved a table for me and my son so we didn't have to eat at a side bar. The experience was top notch, beer was delightful, food was pub food. Will definitely be back.

Great little find on the surface but food decidedly underwhelming. We both went for the fish finger sandwich. Bread too thick, ‘fish fingers’ weren’t actually fish fingers but slides of breaded fish and cold. Chips also cold. Served drinks at the bar by someone who stayed on her phone while serving us, so all in all not too impressed. On a positive note, lovely oldie worldie pub vibe in a great location.

I had a moment so went here for some food. This is located down a little alleyway. Unfortunately, the grill wasn't working at the time so I couldn't get the burger I was craving. But I must admit that I really enjoyed the salad. The staff were lovely. I arrived at 11.40, by 12.15, it had become very busy. The toilets were clean but quite small.

🚇 Bank
🍺 £6.40 Moretti
❤️ An historic city pub that will transport you back in time.
.
The uniquely named Old Doctor Butler's Head is located in Moorgate in the City of London. This pub is not easy to find as it is tucked away down a narrow side street called Masons Avenue. The nearest tube stations are Bank & Moorgate, both are a five minute walk away.
.
There has been a pub on this site since 1610 with the current building established in 1666 just after the great fire of London. The bulk of this building is 19th century, the setting and building make for a Dickensian feel.
.
The decor here is dark and atmospheric, this pub has a similar vibe to the brown café’s of Amsterdam. The ground floor bar has a raised seating area at the back and the main bar area for drinkers at the front. There is also another bar and dining area on the upper floors for those in need of sustenance.
.
This is a Shepherd Neame pub which has a good beer selection with four cask ales available at the time of visiting. I was served by a lovely lady who poured my pint of Moretti with a smile, my pint was decent and price point was to be expected. The food menu is full of hearty British pub classics, there is also a good assortment of sandwiches for city worker clientele that need a quick bite at lunchtime.
.
I visited just after 4pm on a Friday and the pub was starting to fill up with suits from the swathes of surrounding offices. This is such an atmospheric boozer, whether inside or out you get that feeling of old world charm.
.
The @olddoctorbutlers was an excellent visit and I loved the old London Dickensian charm that oozes from its pores. This pub isn’t open at weekends if you’re planning a visit here, but be sure to visit this superb London pub.

The food and service were amazing. Best steaks you can eat - each gorgous, but very different. The decor is nice. We were served by Miri, who was lovely. Very expensive, but well worth it on a special occasion. We went after work on Tues evening and were the only ones in there!

Everything was delicious and service was really good. One of the cocktails I got was not sweet enough for my liking, and I have had better steak at other places.

Premium carnivorous dining experience. Restaurant is on the lower ground floor. Ambiance of exclusivity and privacy away from the hustle and bustle of Broadgate. Staff very friendly. We had the burger for lunch - very tasty but in the small side. Excellent side bread. Flat white was very good. Toilets clean. Recommended.

After anticipating a visit to Gauchos for a while, the opportunity finally arose. The food did not disappoint—each bite was absolutely amazing with a few standout dishes. The Burrata Salad, Wagyu beef, mustard onions, Mac and cheese, Koffmann chips, bread, and desserts like Dulce de Leche Cheesecake and Cookie Dough were all exceptional. The Vina Patricia 2016 Malbec was beautifully paired with the meal.
However, the cocktails were just okay; we've had better. The service was mixed—Carmen was outstanding, but the rest of the staff was more casual, friendly yet not particularly elegant or classy for a place of this calibre.
The location is ideal, close to Liverpool Street station, with a fairly relaxed dress code. Most patrons seemed to be in post-work attire or casual tourist outfits. The decor is nice, but it won't be the main reason to return.
If you're planning to indulge without worrying about the budget, expect to spend around £150 each, including service. Overall, a delightful experience for the food and wine, with room for improvement in service and cocktails. Will go again and look at other branches too.

Came here for bottomless brunch for my boyfriend’s birthday celebration, was amazing, Rosie was great! She kept our drinks topped up, amazing knowledge of the menu, and great recommendations!!! The food and drinks were also amazing, especially the sausage plate. Couldn’t recommend enough, especially if you’re being served by Rosie !!!!

Went here on father's day for Sunday roast! It was delicious! So much food and it wasn't too expensive either. Everyone got the roast, but I decided to go with something different. My wife ended up sharing half of her food with me because it was too much.
Very busy but they handled it fine.

made reservations online for Sunday roast.. approaching the restaurants it seemed like a ghost town and even looking through the glass door it didn’t even look open but was pleasantly surprised how lively it was in the dinning room. food was delicious and service attentive and friendly. i would highly recommend going. get the Sunday roast + cheese macaroni + sticky toffee pudding sundae - you won’t regret it!

Booked a table just for dessert which was happily accommodated. The staff were all super friendly and warm, which really added to the experience! The sticky toffee pudding was absolutely incredible - one of the best desserts i have ever had. A moist sponge which was not at all stodgy, with the perfect amount of toffee sauce to accommodate it. The flavour was amazing - sweet, as a sticky toffee pudding should be, but not too much. I will be back just for this, but am also keen to try other things on the menu too! Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely!

Lovely lunch at the Telegraph, there were 4 of us, we had a selection of food from the Menu. Every meal was delicious. I had the Butternut squash meal, it was lovely, I’m going to try and make it myself!
We were served by Alisha, what a superb employee she is for the Telegraph. It was my first visit, but everyone else had been before and they all said, we hope Alisha is working today. Now I understand why.
Thank you The Telegraph and Alisha. 👍

We had two and one pint of Jubel, with their green curry and steak pie.
The beer and the meals were both awesome. Not to large, not too salty, plenty of flavor. The beer was refreshing and perfect after w day exploring London.
Brilliant service from a very friendly staff. If you see and friendly Romanian with a fantastic mustache - you're in good hands.
Music is a great play list of slick 90s memories. Atmosphere is what I would want out of any pub in the area.
Well priced, very similar to what we'd pay back home in Canada. For the same food and service.
Recommend.

Wetherspoons quality food at 3 times the price. Its one of those venues where the ceiling and carpets have been removed, then using 20 or so tinny speakers they pump in vaccous music (which no one listens to) over the bustle of chat. The the overall noise level was awful - it was like dinning in a busy shipping container. I got cabin fever and couldn't wait to escape. Never again

Staff has a lot of patience for how busy the place gets and they handle it pretty well. They're super quick and efficient with service. Prices as you would expect anywhere in central London. It's still pretty nice considering there is lots of space to stand outside with a pint.

Visited for a Taste Film event. Ordered a Coke and a flat white. We were directed to use a QR code and app rather than order at the bar. A mandatory 12.5% service charge was applied. Coffee was good, Coke was cold. 12.5% feels excessive.

I came here for the TasteFilm Dirty Dancing screening by myself. Firstly, the staff were so welcoming and guided me to my table. They went over dietary requirements and made sure everything was set.
The timing of the food and drink were spot on with the scenes, and it was cute having a menu too which showed what I was eating/drinking and when to expect it.
The atmosphere was relaxed and I had enough room on the table and on my sofa.
Highly recommended and I can't wait to visit again in September!

The pasta and coffee combination sounds bit awkward but that’s what I bought from Coco Di Mama and I never regretted my decision. I am all time pasta lover but coffee is something I am very particular about and here I did t get disappointed. The taste of coffee is something specially different. #vikrmn

I guess red pesto is missing in this one, kind of bland. Usually this place is ok
Chandra Sekhar - 5 years ago
I love the coffee here - it's smooth, well-rounded and flavoursome without being bitter. And it's consistently good too. The queue to pick up the coffee can be a bit haphazard and annoying, but they always get the order correct and it's worth it. The breakfast pots are tasty too - the avocado and egg pot is healthy without being dull to eat. The sourdough breakfast baguette is actually as well filled and tasty as the menu photo suggests!

Store and staff very friendly. I've had better hot chocolate. Pasta great and quickly served. Specials a bit hit and miss. Getting increasingly expensive - now £6.50 for standard pasta.
Music way too loud to hear servers.

Important to say that the drag show was fabulous.
Unfortunately, that doesn't take away from the shocking behaviour of one of the waiters. Probably the most childish, unprofessional and disrespectful interactions I've ever had.
Upon shifting an unstable chair to the side, we were berated like children. Incomprehensible ramblings and snarky remarks while stomping around the table grabbing cutlery and the chair. Eventually when I tried to discuss it with him, he rolled his eyes and said "ugh, I'm not even listening to you" and huffed off.
If it wasn't so absurd it would be comical really.

I think this is the pub closest to Liverpool Street Station. It's a fairly typical city pub but we went on a Saturday afternoon where there was live sport showing on the TV screens all round the pub. It was a football game and so the atmosphere was maybe a little louder than non-event days. Anyway, it's a long time since I have been in a pub like the Railway where you can stick to the floor but the beer was good and reasonably priced so what's a little adhesion?

Good experience overall. We order the house speciality of the week which is soft-shell burger and the traditional bacon and cheese burger which is very good! The atmosphere reflects a traditional british pub and our server Jack is super awesome with his attention to detail for our need! The beer here is also good and whats better is that the pub is just a minute walk away from the Liverpool Street Station. Definetly will come back when the chance comes around!
Evan Febriansa - a week ago
The Railway Tavern, conveniently located by Liverpool Street Station, is exactly what you'd expect from a pub in this bustling location. It's a classic British pub, offering a standard selection of drinks and pub grub. Don't expect anything extraordinary; it's a functional space rather than a destination in itself.
That said, its prime location makes it an ideal spot for a pre-train pint or a quick meeting before heading off. The service is typically efficient, catering to the constant flow of commuters. If you're looking for a no-frills pub with a central location, The Railway Tavern fits the bill.

Thomas and the amazing staff were welcoming and so hospitable. This hospitality was only beat by the incredible food and wine at a ridiculously fantastic price point. I was staying in the area and searched for a top fish and chip option. Their version did not only disappoint but excelled an already high expectation. I was sold on the red lion by reading these reviews and now I want to make the best one possible. Well done Tom and team. I will be back when next in London!

A great little pub on the corner of Wilson Street offering a fine array of both cask and keg ales. The Red Lion is a lovely offering from Greene King. Friendly, traditional and welcoming. The service is great and with a smile. A lovely twist on the menu offering the 'invisible Mac' to give support to cancer patients. A menu option, so positive and discretionary, well done.
