5 Star Rating Great evening at one of New York's better jazz clubs. It was their 25th anniversary and I've been coming here most of those 25 years. Music: George Coleman, the great saxophonist who played with Miles (and others). Wish I'd seen him in the '60s, but at 89 he's still an outstanding player. Equally good was Joe Farnsworth, about the best jazz drummer playing today. 2 thumbs 👍 Highly recommended

5 Star Rating My wife and I spent the evening of my birthday at SMOKE Jazz Club. We were visiting NYC from SLC, Utah, where there are no Jazz clubs that can compare. The entire experience, the food, the service, the atmosphere, and of course the music, was perfect! We paid about $50 each for seats at the stage. I was initially annoyed to see that we were also required to order an entree once we were seated. There are so many other amazing food venues in the city that I wanted to try. But when the entrees came, I was not let down. The lambchops were 5 star delicious! And my wife loved the fried chicken. They had a decent selection of single malt whiskeys, with some Japanese and domestic offerings. And the bartender made the best lemon drop martinis we have ever had. We ate good and drank like we didn't have to drive that night or work the next day. And we were spirited away by the musings of a Jazz quintet featuring George Coleman on Tenor Sax, Carl Allen on drums, Peter Bernstein on guitar, John Webber on bass, and Michael Weiss on piano. The group blazed through a master class set. And George at almost 90, just dazzled us. He took us to school and then to church and made it all so much fun. Our night at SMOKE Jazz Club was a dream come true for me!

5 Star Rating Incredible evening! Had the most amazing night sitting right behind Bill Charlap, the famous Jazz pianist. Seriously, luck was on our side! An hour just flew by as we soaked in his awesome tunes. It was like time had its own rhythm, and we couldn't believe our luck to be part of such a cool experience.

5 Star Rating Smoke Jazz & Supper Club is a really nice spot for a jazz show + dinner on the Upper West Side! I came in recently for the first time with my partner (although, he has been through multiple times & has loved every experience he has had at Smoke), and had a great time!! The staff are SO kind + accommodating and the food here is delicious. During our visit this weekend, we had their Mixed Green Salad with a side of Truffle Parmesan Fries - everything was delicious. I also tried their Sangria, which was refreshing & flavorful. Great spot, highly recommend! :-)

3 Star Rating While the food at this establishment is undoubtedly delicious, I was greatly disappointed by the treatment of the staff by the supervisor. Witnessing the supervisor publicly scolding the waiters for a minor mistake, such as providing bread to a table twice, was disheartening and completely unnecessary. This negative experience significantly detracted from an otherwise enjoyable dining experience.

4 Star Rating The food was good, not a bad price. Still caught me off guard that the plate of Broccoli was as almost as much as the half chicken. I really like the variety of the menu and the presentation of the food. My friend and I were grateful that this place was open on Christmas, but the restaurant was cold. It probably sat around 40°F. I wondered "Where is the warmth? It is below freezing outside." I asked the waiter if they served hot water, he just laughed and said "no". Now I thought he was joking so I laughed a little as well... But he never did come back with that hot water. Other than that the service was pretty quick and also respectful. Anyway as it turns out all of the heat was concentrated to the front of the restaurant where most of the staff set up.

5 Star Rating Loved loved this place. It was my first time getting Ethiopian food and I thought it was amazing. Got the veggie platter and the spices/seasoning was soo good. The combo together was delicious- really loved the beets complementing the chickpea mix. Everything was wrapped in a type of bread/wrap which has a kind of grainy texture but is very complementary. Got this for take out and 100% would get again. Large portion as we had it for 2 meals.

5 Star Rating A couple of weeks ago after celebrating our 17th Wedding Anniversary at an African drumming circle in Central Park, my husband and I decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants - Awash! (The Manhattan Valley location.) Since 1994 this family owned business has been serving astonishingly delicious food to their fortunate constituency. We decided to dine outside and enjoy the beautiful September evening that graced us.We ordered the Gomen Besiga (lamb with collard greens) the Veggie Sampler and washed it down with an Ethiopian Beer and Honey Wine. For dessert we had Ethiopian coffee, and their decadent rum cake - which was given to us on the house to celebrate the occasion. I highly encourage you to eat here. We are truly privileged to have such world class, authentic Ethiopian cuisine mere blocks from where we live.

5 Star Rating I am a longstanding fan of Cafe du Soleil. They have an extensive menu, and the food is good and well priced for the quality. No one should expect Michelin-star gastronomy, this is solid bistro cuisine, and they do that well. The happy hour is an exceptional value, and I don't know how they make money, but having to be at the (tight) bar does a pretty good job of rationing service, so either come early or be willing to stand. I particularly relish the fact that the staff here are willing to tolerate my terrible French. This is a place I bring my friends and family, and look forward to doing so for a long time to come!

2 Star Rating I'm originally from NY, but have moved to NC. I came back for my grandson, who had heart surgery across the street and was hoping for some really good pizza. This place didn't disappoint - it was really good! What I do have a problem with is bait and switch. Online prices are given, and when you walk in, the prices above, on the board match. I ordered, and what should have been $12+tax, turned out to be $18+tax. When I asked the girl at the register who, "only works here", she added that the actual prices are in their take away menu stacked on the counter. She also added that it was brought up weeks ago by another customer, and it's up to the owners to change the pricing and address the issue, not her. I have no problem with paying for anything that is clearly stated by the establishment whatever it is that they charge. As a consumer, we make choices based on how much, and do we want it? There are hundreds of pizza places - WHY NOT be diligent and up front with your customers? It's deception and poor business. Pizza, good. Pizzeria and customer service, not so good. If ever back in the city, I'll spend my hard earned money on another place that has more integrity and honesty. ☆And, girl at the register, MAYBE suggest patrons look at the actual menu on the counter that's next to the register, with current pricing, and not at the above the counter and online pricing. You work there, do your job!

3 Star Rating Broadway makes a tolerable plain pizza. It isn't particularly bad or particularly good, I'd consider it to be decent. I won't be recommending this place to anyone but if you're looking for a quick slice, I won't say to avoid it. The cheese and sauce didn't really stand out and came across as kinda weak flavored. The dough wasn't half bad but definitely more on the doughier side, which isn't my favorite.

4 Star Rating Overall Sal and Carmine's has a solid slice of pizza but not without its flaws. I opted to try a plain slice and a pepperoni slice. The dough and sauce had a nice flavor but the cheese was REALLY salty, like on the brink of being overpowering. Had the slice been less salty then I probably would rank it top 5 in the area. As for the pepperoni slice, the salt was pretty overbearing. It was almost salty to the point that I couldn't finish it if I wasn't starving. I give this a 4 because I'd definitely go back for a plain slice if I'm in the area but I'm not going out of my way to come here.

5 Star Rating I came her with my bf to have a nice breakfast. We were immediately greeted and allowed to sit wherever we’d like. I’m new to NYC so I’m still feeling out places. I ordered the fried shrimp basket and potato skins. Yep for breakfast. I’m Southern. Don’t judge me! The shrimp basket came with a nice healthy portion of about 8 butterflied shrimp. Super crunchy and delicious. The potato skins were very large spuds cut in half with gooey cheese and bacon with a side of sour cream. Very filling on its own. The part that wowed me though was I wanted some cocktail sauce for my shrimp. I asked the server for some but he didn’t think they had any so he asked one of the owners. The owner actually went in the back and made me some fresh cocktail sauce for my shrimp— and it was sooooo good. They seem to know that service matters which is rare these days. I wasn’t even expecting it.
