3 Star Rating It's in a good location easy to get to no problems with their delivery costumer service is great, I think the food can be better. It lacks seasoning a huge deal it's like the food is just cooked bland and it's kind of overpriced for it to be so plain tasting.

3 Star Rating The Cecil is obviously an institution. That being said, our experience was mixed. The atmosphere is wonderful. The decoration is beautiful. The waiter who looked after us was incredibly kind and present. The starters were really good... But then the mains were satisfactory to disappointing. The meats were all over cooked and one person on our table got the wrong cut of meat. After a few back and forth, it turns out the kitchen made a mistake... But nothing was done about it. We ordered lava cakes for desert and received something different... Again, nothing was done to correct the situation. Our waiter was terribly embarrassed and apologized on behalf of the kitchen and management. The overall experience was fun, and we're happy we visited, but for the price paid, we would have liked less mistakes or more done by management to correct them.

5 Star Rating I rarely/never give places 5 stars, but baby, this place is amazing! The food was soooo good. I had the soup and a shrimp salad. But I also got to taste my friends plates. They had steak, lamb and fried chicken. It was alll VERY GOOD. The ambiance was top notch. We got to dance with the person putting on the amazing show. I could go on all day... I would come back here again and again.

5 Star Rating I accidently ran into this place. I have been in the neighborhood for 20 years and never knew of this place. The decor was beautiful and jazz looking. Service was wonderful and the food was great. They even had a comedy show available the night I was there. I simply sat at the bar. Went again the following week to imtroduce my friend to this place for drink and food. She loved it.

2 Star Rating Nice spot but the service was not so good. There was one person working the whole damn floor at one point. So that meant our group amd the other groups that were there were not tended to as we should have been. The guy walking around tried to spruce things up by celebrating EVERYONE...birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement...whatever. It was a nice way to liven things up but service needs major work.

5 Star Rating On a beautiful Monday afternoon in Harlem I was in need of nourishment. I walked past Silvana on 116th and then came back hoping it would not disappoint. Extremely friendly staff very welcoming. Tried some Red Jacket NY Style Lemonade. Very good. And then came the Falafel. It’s been way too long. It was a flavor explosion. Good crispy outside and moist inside. Like a long lost friend . A++

3 Star Rating Maybe their night life is better than their day time lunch hours. I called ahead to see if they serve turkey burgers and was happy to hear that they do! I walked in around 2PM and the energy and hospitality was lack luster, as I was told to seat myself wherever. Initially I went to the bar where I was told happy hour does not begin until 4PM and only drinks will be served. So, I find a quiet spot in the corner between the threshold of the bar and dining room. The water glasses are already facing right side up on the table, and visibly dirty. I just asked for a clean glass, no problem. I’ll take partial responsibility for the fact that I was served a turkey burger with pork bacon on it. I ordered blindly without reading the menu, but I feel as though I should’ve been informed by my knowledgeable waitress. Regardless, I sent it back knowing they were just going to remove the bacon from my burger and reassemble it accordingly. To my dismay, my burger comes back with a hair on the plate. Mind you, it’s only 2PM. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional but at this point the cleanliness of this establishment is a cause for concern. In the end my meal was compensated, and I was no longer planning to leave this review due to their effort to rectify the situation. However, the opportunity presented itself when I was notified to leave a review😅

5 Star Rating This is a busy local hot spot. My visit was on a Sunday during brunch. Tables were available but we opted for the bar to be away from the crowds. The Shocktop beer on draft was cold and delicious. I highly recommend the pot of mussels in spicy tomato sauce. It is served with garlic bread to soak up that great broth. Aside from that, we ordered fries, chicken, and waffles, which were all great as well. Looking forward to returning soon.

5 Star Rating I've gone to the tavern for years since they arrived to harlem. It fluctuates, they're on a high note!. The hostess were super friendly and got the perfect seat for me outside but can still feel the A/C. My server Sam was awesome and super patient. THE Flatbread is really insane!! So delicious..every flavor balanced. The sangria was refreshing and perfect for the heat. The Buffalo chicken wrap was no good, the chicken tasted like it was fried hard and then just sat. I was able to switch to the fish sandwich, that was perfect!

Our table attendant Brian was hands down the best provider of service. He needs a raise because his level of service was impeccable. I wish we could have stayed longer. I will never come to New York and not eat here. A Harlem jewel Ms. Melba was also available in the restaurant which was impressive to see. Such was warm spirit

5 Star Rating Great vibes, good service and the food was DELICIOUS!!!! My family was in New York to celebrate my mom’s birthday and we were looking for a soul food spot in the city. Being that my family is from Texas, Melba’s restaurant was recommended by a local for a taste of down south soul food and they did not disappoint!!! Staff was very accommodating for our party of 7 with no reservation. We visited on a Saturday evening and they were extremely busy, but we only had to wait about 20 min to get a table. We enjoyed drinks at the bar while we waited and the bartender was awesome!!!

5 Star Rating Visited to celebrate 21st wedding anniversary because the hubs wanted smothered chicken and Miss Melba did not disappoint! The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The only dish I wasn't crazy about was the potato salad - tasted more like a deli style than a down home southern version. The oxtail was tender, the Mac n cheese was very cheesy and the yams were a nice compliment to the greens which turned out to be the dish I loved the most! The strawberry Henny (punch?) beverage was smooth and also complimented the food we ate. We were surprised by our AMAZING server Brian with two glasses of champagne to celebrate. Brian is the reason I decided to post this review - customer service is a major component in the dining experience and he went above and beyond to give us suggestions, answer our questions, give us time to eat in peace, to place our order (my husband is sooo slow when ordering) and he made sure to be available without being noticed. The staff worked as a team and were also welcoming and attentive. When we took the wrappers off our straws and put them on the table we looked down after our sips and they were gone - that's how attentive they were to our table! We went on a Friday afternoon at four and the crowd was moderate. I'm sure they get busy, but since they encourage reservations it was nice not to have to wait 20 mins for a table. Highly recommend. If you plan to drive there -We parked on a side street, about a five minute walk from the restaurant but there's metered street parking, arrive earlier than your reservation in case you gotta find a spot.

4 Star Rating Very small space inside with very few tables. They do have more seating outside, which appears to be heated under an enclosed tent. The staff was attentive. They do have an All Day Menu, & a Pre Fixed Menu for $40. For an appetizer, the Crab Cakes aren't bad. For an entree, I enjoyed the Black Sea Bass. I don't usually eat that when I go out. It comes with Farro, Black Garlic, & Zucchini. The Farro was interesting in taste because I never had it before. Their drink specialties are limited. For those who like Moscato, they don't carry it here. The Spicy Magarita is very spicy. I didn't enjoy the taste.

Unfortunately, we were cramped, and I honestly couldn’t sit relaxed in my seat the entire time I was there. $15 for 7 catfish nuggets (the nugget part wasn’t mentioned in the menu) thankfully the Mac & Cheese was a hefty portion. Both were good. The Rockefeller oysters weren’t too tasty.

5 Star Rating I don't get to go to Harlem much, since it's a long way from East Brooklyn, but this was well worth the trip! The staff was friendly and accommodating, the music was great and the outdoor seating area was WARM! It was just as though you were inside, music was also playing but it was comfortable enough to be able to have a conversation without having to yell. If you prefer to sit indoors, be prepared to have to speak very loudly to one another and/or not be able to hear. This didn't impact my rating because the outside seating made up for it. I really enjoyed my food (salmon, mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts) and the mimosas! Would definitely make a trip back one of the next times I make it uptown! The outdoor seating was perfect for a group!

3 Star Rating I went for a late brunch. We sat down at about 3 pm. I had the pancakes and catfish entree. The catfish was lightly breaded which I like. The pancake was served at room temperature. Cold. There was a long wait for us to get our food so I didn't think it would be delivered to the table cold. They have a prix fixe menu that comes with an appetizer, entree and dessert. I opted to go a la carte since the pancakes and catfish entree was not on the prix fixe menu. The atmosphere is trendy/hip but the music was loud so it was hard to have a conversation.

5 Star Rating A landmark positioned in the heart of Harlem connected to Cecil’s Steakhouse. We went there on an early (6pm) reservation and first Jazz show (7pm). Overall a great experience. Parking - As any typical NY establishment, parking on the street is next too impossible, however, there is a parking garage about a block away that was reasonable (surcharge for large SUVs). Nice 1 block walk amidst the brownstones and community. Reservations - We were guests of another party, but our reservation was for 6pm, and they advise they hold for 15 minutes. Due to traffic we got there 6:30 and was still okay. I personally think the earlier the better as it was not packed. Not sure about walk-in or takeout. Service was spectacular. Very fast and prompt service for drinks, clearing dishes, and delivery of food. Food is priced reasonable. The only thing we couldn’t do which was surprising, was substitute side dishes with our order, as they had an abundance of side options. The food was good, seasoned and cooked well. Dessert assortment was excellent, something for everyone (not just chocolate). Jazz show - The show started a little late, but it set the ambiance and atmosphere right. Although small, you cannot tell or feel it when your sitting down eating and enjoying music and fellowship. A definite return in the future. **Menus attached.

2 Star Rating I really wanted to like this place. I love live jazz and supporting music played in person, especially as we get over the effects of the pandemic on live entertainment. Here’s my take on Minton’s. I was under the impression that this is a historic landmark and storied place. When you walk in, there’s really no evidence of this. The place is completely renovated and devoid of charm or elegance. I read in a NYT review that men should be encouraged to dress sharp.. but most were wearing casual clothing. It felt more like a cruise ship lounge than a historic venue for jazz music and fine food. We were also not told of a minimum purchase with each person- $40 per person PLUS an automatically added 20% gratuity and $20 added to support the musicians. I always tip 20% or more but I was not informed when making the reservation that there was a minimum. Our night for four people ended up being over $320 when we had a few appetizers and drinks. Absolutely a rip off and not okay to surprise a guest with these rules. Our party ate beforehand because we didn’t know about this rule. What’s more? The music was okay, but not exceptional. I’m not a professional, but it was clear that the group performing were good, but not out of the ordinary talented. Patrons were also talking loudly and taking videos/pictures during the performance that clearly got in the way for other guests. Management/Waitstaff should inform the audience to be respectful of others. I really wanted to like this place but between the rip-off minimum payment and cruise level entertainment atmosphere, this place is a no-go for me. Save your money. Try The Blue Note or another jazz spot for a true experience.

4 Star Rating The history of this place in Harlem is amazing. The newly renovated Minton's is beautiful. Small but spacey enough. You pay 25 dollars per person to watch the jazz show plus dinner and I felt that it was a bit rushed to get you out for the next show. Perhaps the layer show is better to sit and relax and listen to music and eat. The food is delicious

4 Star Rating 4 stars only because they ran out of collard greens. Sweet plantains cooked to perfection, kale was steamed and garlicy. Otherwise, food was excellent, very friendly & welcoming staff. Great place for dates, anniversaries, family gatherings, or just to get some home cooked comfort foods. Loved the biscuits in honey butter, 2 in a plate, but my greedy self ordered 2 orders, well worth it. Braised BBQ ribs were so tender, fell off the bone. 3 cheese mac & cheese was a hit. The beautiful beet salad with grilled shrimp was mouth watering. Did not have room for dessert, but it was definitely worth my next trip. 😋

3 Star Rating This time food was not that impressive. I had pumpkin gnocchi and they were ok. The unpleasant note of the dinner was the heating. In the patio they had a super old AC that was blowing hot air right in the customer's faces. It's about time to renovate it! Other fun thing: heating was on together with ceiling fans lol. 50$ for the gnocchi dish, garlic bread and a bloody Mary (served with the wrong straws). Overall expensive compared to the quality and service.

Reviews

2 Star Rating 2 visits one month apart. The first had a big container of moldy strawberries. The second screen order I had to throw away almost half of the food when I got home and unpacked it. Again moldy, rotted, out of date foods. There won’t be a third visit.

5 Star Rating I’ve only served here, so I can’t really rate this place as a customer. But I think they do a wonderful job! All the meals I’ve helped with seem very well planned and organized. They serve good food too (we weren’t allowed to eat it, but it looked good!!!) Attendees seem happy.

5 Star Rating Great resource for people who need food. Very helpful, respectful, non-intimidating, with a friendly feel. Great people helping where help is needed. Very good food pantry, available to all comers. The meals are institutional food, but when you are hungry, food is food. The food pantry has a system which allows people to make their own choices within different categories, more like a little market, less intimidating and more respectful than some other places (I don't mean to speak against food pantries which offer food to the needy - they help out of the goodness of their hearts, but they just don't know how it feels to have to put out your hand). The shoppers at the Food Pantry also help each other, discuss choices, and share suggestions and recipes for what is available. What a good place to have when you are in a bad place!

5 Star Rating If you are in the area of West 116 Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard (Eighth Avenue) you may want to drop by and sample the simple, satisfying fare offered here weekdays from 4 pm to 6 pm. Sign in, sit down and a meal served on a tray will be brought to you by a volunteer. Additional food, fruits and vegetables -- bagels even, are distributed as available. A first-rate "soup kitchen" and one of Harlem's best-kept secrets which has seen a succession of professional ball players and celebrities volunteer their help over the years.
