There is something genuinely special about eating at the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park even though the chain has hundreds of locations now. It started here in 2004 as a hot dog cart to benefit the park, grew into a permanent kiosk, and then into what it is today. On a nice day the line wraps through the park and people seem almost unbothered by it, which tells you something. You're outside, you're in Manhattan, there's a view of the Flatiron building, and you know something good is coming. The ShackBurger is the move on a first visit. 100% Angus beef, properly smashed on the griddle, with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce on a potato bun that holds together through the whole thing. It's what a fast food burger would taste like if someone actually cared about the ingredients. The Shack Stack takes it further with a crispy fried portobello on top of a beef patty and a double layer of cheese, which sounds like too much and is somehow exactly right. The crinkle-cut fries come out hot and salty and well-seasoned. And the concrete, which is a dense frozen custard blended with mix-ins of your choice, is the dessert you should not skip. The chocolate frozen custard blended with peanut butter sauce and Nilla wafers is a concrete that comes up a lot in reviews for a reason. The mobile app lets you order ahead and skip the line, which is the only tip you really need here.

I know Shake Shack is everywhere now, but there's still something that hits differently about eating at the original one. It started as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park and eventually turned into this small kiosk that somehow became a global thing. Standing outside with your food on a warm day, watching people walk dogs and kids run around the park, is its own particular kind of good. The ShackBurger is exactly what it should be: a smashed patty with good char, a soft potato bun, real American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and that ShackSauce which is basically a well-seasoned thousand island that works a lot better than it sounds like it should. We also tried the SmokeShack, which adds crispy bacon and cherry peppers and is kind of the version you get when you've been here a few times and want more going on. The crinkle-cut fries are properly crispy and hold up well even when they cool down a bit, which is not nothing. And the concrete frozen custard, we went with a chocolate and peanut butter mix-in, is the kind of thick, dense frozen dessert that makes soft serve feel apologetic. It's worth going out of your way for. The line at this location can get long, especially around lunch on a nice day, and there's no indoor seating here like at other locations. It's a park kiosk situation, which is all part of the charm. If you're visiting for the first time and want the full picture of where this whole thing started, this is the one to come to.

We tried Shake Shack at Madison Square Garden, and it was a nice experience overall 🍔✨ It was cool to finally try it, especially since it’s so hyped and talked about. The burger was good, but honestly nothing extraordinary - I’ve definitely had better before. The fries were okay as well, nothing too special. What really stood out was the location. Sitting inside Madison Square Garden with a view toward the Flatiron Building was really cool and made the experience feel special. It was quite busy, so the wait was quite long, which is probably normal during the evening hours. Overall, a solid experience - good to try once, but not necessarily something I would go out of my way for again.

I spent the day walking around Madison Square Park looking at the sights and all the statues. After lunch, I decided to stop by Shake Shack food stand to get something cool to drink on a hot day. I ended up getting a chocolate shake. It was delicious and really hit the spot.

Honestly, I have never had a burger this good anywhere in the European Union, and even in some parts of America it’s hard to find something like this. The burger was incredibly juicy, perfectly cooked, and literally melted in my mouth. The meat was flawless, full of flavor, and paired perfectly with the crispy fries. The taste is simply unforgettable. If I ever come back to New York, I will definitely visit this place again!

This was my fourth Danny Meyer restaurant visit—after Shake Shack, Union Square Cafe, and Manhatta—and it was easily the best. Everything was exquisite: the ambiance, the food, and the service. The Snowdance Farm Chicken was one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had. It was crispy yet chewy on the outside, beautifully tender on the inside, and brought together by an absolutely delicious Asian-inspired sauce. The tomato salad was also super refreshing, bursting with a vibrant, healthy summer flavor. Best of all, our server, Marissa, made this the finest dining experience we’ve had in New York. She was welcoming without being intrusive, exceptionally professional, and genuinely friendly.

The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, but the food itself was just average. Nothing really stood out or surprised us in terms of flavor. The bread was excellent, and the fish and desserts were enjoyable, but overall the meal didn't quite live up to the expectations for the price. The biggest disappointment was the atmosphere. The restaurant was extremely noisy, and it honestly felt more like a food court than a fine dining restaurant. It was difficult to have a conversation without raising our voices. Another downside was the wait for dessert. We had to wait about 20 minutes after our main course before it was served. It may have been because the restaurant was busy, but it definitely affected the overall dining experience. Overall, it's worth trying once, but I was expecting a more memorable meal and a much better dining atmosphere.

(Review from Dec. 2025): First time at Gramercy Tavern, we had lunch on the tavern side. We both really enjoyed everything we ate, they are serving some really solid American food. The flatbread and dips and the burger stood out above the rest. I think the burger is an all timer in the city. The milk and cookie dessert was fun but it didn’t blow us away. Gramercy also has a great cocktail program, so definitely keep that in mind. I had one of the best dirty martinis ever, it came with homemade blue cheese olives that were out of this world. As to be expected of this restaurant group, the service we experienced Michelin quality, attentive but warm and easy. They brought us a complimentary mini-cake to celebrate our anniversary, it was delicious. One great thing about Gramercy is how seasonal it is. It makes you want to return to see the new menu items and motifs. Overall, highly recommend Gramercy Tavern and can’t wait to return!

Gramercy Tavern is a tried and true establishment. You can safely expect their quality of both food and services to be excellent every single time. One thing that really stood out to me is that even though I am a meat lover, I find myself looking forward to their veggie dishes over and over again. It is impossible to recreate these dishes at home which makes the price tag much easier to digest. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to book the dinning room at GT for any special occasions or for when you just want to indulge on a random Tuesday

If I had to become a regular anywhere, this would be my pick. You can tell how impressive this restaurant is by the way they execute American cuisine—which, as you know, is usually my least favorite. But they absolutely nailed it. I was genuinely so pleased with everything. The farm chicken with the onion rings were standouts. Crispy, perfectly fried. The beef steak sandwich looked incredible, but I was way too full to even take a bite—so I’ll definitely be back and will keep you posted. The beef carpaccio was delicious, and while the mushrooms pasta were slightly salty, the creamy, flavorful sauce paired perfectly with the sweet potato bun. (This is their restaurant week menu!) And let me just say—the desserts are a must. You have to get the apple pie. It was amazing, especially with the hint of balsamic vinegar and Parmesan—holy moly!! The chocolate cake came with a woodside-flavored ice cream that I had never tried before, and I absolutely fell in love. The back room is stunning, and the service is easily the kind to deserve 30% tip—attentive, polished, and welcoming. This is also an amazing spot to bring your partner to meet the family!

Incredible experience! First to address misconceptions on other reviews. The menu was not entirely plant based, there were fish/meat options. And we got plenty of food when we ordered the tasting menu (5 course). We could understand needing more if you only got one dish, which is not really what this restaurant is about even if it is technically an option. Onto our experience, everything was incredible, with the food being the strongest point. All courses were delicious and absolutely indescribable for a foodie. Duck and chicken was very well cooked with crispiness and spices where needed, dessert had incredible texture, and the presentation of all was appealing. After leaving, I felt a loss knowing that J would not have any more of their food for some time, which showed me how much I valued the experience. The atmosphere and service were also very good. I felt the service was better at one Jean George restaurant, but the service here was still excellent. Different high end restaurants have different strengths. The art was very tasteful. I absolutely recommend this restaurant and look forward to eventually coming back.

I was in town visiting schools and sightseeing, and I decided this would be a great opportunity to experience something completely different from my usual restaurant choices. Fine dining is not something I do often, but I wanted to see what one of the most recognized restaurants in the country was all about. From the moment I walked in, the experience felt special. The dining room was elegant and beautiful without feeling intimidating. The staff was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. They took the time to explain each course, the ingredients being used, and the inspiration behind many of the dishes. The food was unlike anything I had experienced before. Every plate looked like a work of art. Some of the ingredients and flavor combinations were things I had never tried and probably would have never considered ordering on my own. What impressed me most was how much thought went into every detail. Nothing felt rushed or thrown together. Every course seemed to have a purpose. One of the highlights was being able to try the meat options after the restaurant had recently made changes to the menu. The flavors were incredible, and everything was prepared with a level of care and precision that was easy to appreciate. Even when I was eating something unfamiliar, I found myself enjoying it. The bread service, desserts, and small touches throughout the meal showed why this restaurant has earned such a strong reputation. The presentation was stunning, but the food delivered on flavor as well. Another memorable part of the evening was getting the opportunity to visit the kitchen. Seeing the operation behind the scenes and watching the team work together was fascinating. This review is a treasured memory of my visit to Eleven Madison Park in 2017, before they transitioned to a plant-based menu. Having previously dined here in 2013 and 2014, this was my third visit, and sharing this meal with my family made it an incredibly special and unforgettable experience. Even back then, securing a reservation was famously difficult. It required a deposit, and changing or canceling was no easy task, making the booking process quite a hurdle. However, every single moment at the restaurant made it entirely worth it. The dishes were the pinnacle of sophistication—healthful, deeply satisfying, and a true feast for both the eyes and the palate. The flavors were absolutely magnificent. Furthermore, the hospitality was genuinely warm and welcoming, creating a perfectly comfortable and relaxing atmosphere despite its prestigious reputation. I haven't had the chance to visit since they became a fully vegetarian restaurant, but I am very much looking forward to returning and experiencing their new culinary chapter. Barbounia was a great place to share a meal with coworkers, especially since the menu is built well for trying a variety of dishes together. Everything we had was good and the overall experience felt polished and enjoyable. That said, nothing really blew me away. The food was solid across the board, but there was not a particular dish that made me immediately want to come back for it. The lamb chops were probably my favorite part of the meal. They were flavorful and cooked well, though I will say they felt a bit pricey for the portion you actually get. The atmosphere is lively and works really well for group dinners or work outings where you want a nice meal in a comfortable setting. Overall, I am glad I got to experience it, but I am not sure it is a place I would rush back to anytime soon. 🍽️🙂

Yeah just a heads up I’m gonna be glazing on this one. Barbounia is of my top five restaurants in the city. Every dish on the menu ranges from very good to outstanding, and the service is consistently polished and professional. Despite its popularity, the restaurant strikes the perfect balance - energetic and bustling without ever feeling overcrowded. I’ve been here for date nights, large group dinners, and solo meals at the bar, and it excels in every setting. The soaring ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably moderate noise level create an exceptional atmosphere that’s both lively and inviting. Tonight’s martini was impeccably crafted, the octopus was tender and flavorful, and the steak was cooked to perfection paired with an Italian red (Chianti Classico, a Tuscan stalwart). A special shoutout to the tall Argentinian bartender (Johan?) who is the epitome of hospitality behind the bar. Knowledgeable, personable, and effortlessly attentive, he elevates the entire experience and makes every visit feel memorable. One of New York's true icons by renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer. The spatial design boasts a delicate balance between elegance and casualness. Every staff member—from the maître d' to our server—was welcoming and friendly, totally living up to the restaurant's reputation. All the dishes served were fresh, heartfelt, and delicious. I particularly loved the appetizer bread (that dip is unbelievable) and the tomato salads.

I was treated to my Mother’s Day dinner here this year. My son made an excellent choice. I have never had such an amazing meal and the service was out of this world. We were served warm bread when we sat down. We ordered a Crab Cale and Duck Liver Profiterole for an appetizer. They were both delicious. For dinner I ordered the Gemelli allo Zafferano. This was absolutely the most delicious shrimp dish I’ve ever tasted. My son had the Mafaldine all’ Anatra (Duck Ragu). I am not at all a duck fan but, wow! Very tasty. We also ordered the Chocolate Hazelnut Tart, it too was out of this world. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Thank you to the staff for also being ON POINT! Highly recommend!

I love the staff here, they’re so great and attentive! Food was really good but not jaw dropping insane, perhaps our expectations were high given the hype. Seafood platter was alright, the salmon was really good and had a cilantro sauce of some kind. The burger was good but I’d rate it 8.5/10 - the frites were delicious though. We did like everything, drinks were yum, all in all it was a nice dinner.

We come here fairly often since it’s close to us, but usually just for happy hour! But our lunch here was incredible. We got some coffee and tea, the homemade lamb burgers, the jambon and Brie sandwich special, and the fish special as well! The fries came with most everything as well and we LOVED it all - especially the lamb burgers!! Will definitely be coming back for those!

Great service and food! I have been meaning to try this place and so glad I did and will be coming back! They have great outdoor seating and drinks options and the staff is super nice and patient with my 1 million questions. We tried the goat cheese and the artichoke appetizer plus the chicken sandwich and the crème brûlée for dessert If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend! It was nice that there was plenty of outdoor seating plus plenty of shade Michelle and Torris took care of us and we felt super comfortable to take our time and they really made the experience what is was!

We had such a wonderful dining experience here! We tried everything on the Restaurant Week menu, and honestly, every single dish was absolutely delicious. The food was beautifully presented and tasted even better. And the dessert was truly a work of art! The crème brûlée was the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had in my life — absolutely unforgettable! 🤍 The service was also exceptional. We came with two young children, and the staff were incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming throughout our entire meal. They made us feel so comfortable and taken care of, even with the kids. Good place on park ave next to union square. L’express offers French cuisine dishes with a touch of general Mediterranean dishes. The food is overall good and offers a decent value for money. However, the steak in the steak frites was a bit chewy and we were charged extra for the au poivre which is a bit weird. The au poivre sauce was a bit watery also. The Niçoise salad was very nice and the tuna was of high quality. We got crème brûlée for dessert which was pretty good. At other times I took their burger which is recommended. They have a homemade lamb burger that has a strong flavor and they recommend eating it with goat cheese. I’m not sure about the goat cheese it didn’t go that well together in my opinion. Overall good experience and good value for money relatively to a French restaurant in New York City.

We heard this restaurant might be closing soon, so we knew we had to give it a try! The food and service were both outstanding. We loved every single bite. We started with the artichokes served with a creamy sour sauce as an appetizer, and it immediately got us excited for the rest of the meal. Then we had the seafood pasta—you could literally taste the freshness of the sea in every bite. The seafood was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. Our third dish was the pan-seared fish. It was cooked beautifully: the flesh was tender and juicy, while the skin was perfectly crispy. Last but not least, we finished with the olive oil cake for dessert. The flavor instantly transported me to Southern Italy. A wonderful meal from start to finish!

Dined here last weekend and had the restaurant week menu. Generous portions and a good variety to choose from. I tried the artichokes which were delicious snd the rigatoni (pasta was perfectly cooked). The restaurant week special drink was really refreshing too. I was looking forward to the olive oil cake but it was dense, a bit hard and not what I’d recommend. Service was friendly, but a few times we had to wait to get our servers attention. Overall, a nice spot, so long as service can be more prompt.

What a wonderful experience I had at Vallata! From the moment I walked in, the host greeted me with kindness and confirmed my peanut allergy (so rare to get this service before sitting down). The good service continued, even down to the water service. Our host was super friendly, and I believe it was the manager who came over at one point to check in on us. All around just 11/10 customer service! As for the food, SO delicious! Restaurant week was such a great opportunity to try a little bit of everything. The hot honey pizza was insanely good, the short rib cavatelli was *chefs kiss*, and the olive oil cake was some of the best I’ve had in the city. Chef Tom was also back there in the kitchen! Will 100% be back 😍

I saw an IG post of Tom C making a sandwich at the grand opening of Vallata yesterday and had to try it. The Ossessione was Mortadella, Stracciatella, Pistachio pesto, black garlic aioli and arugula on a focaccia bun. So good. Every ingredient worked well together with the bun. I also had a few bites of my wife’s 8 1/2 porchetta sandwich. Also very tasty. Service was very attentive and friendly. Maybe a little inexperienced since it was an opening. The “dessert “ of the meal was getting to meet Tom, Kristen and Gail along with season 21 winner Danny Garcia.

Everything was exceptional, and it felt like we were getting the royal treatment! Waitstaff were extremely attentive, patient with answering questions, and asked about allergies/dietary restrictions right away. The food off of the Restaurant Week menu was all quite good. Don’t miss the crispy artichokes, which are paired with a garlicky lemon sauce. And the olive oil cake goes perfectly with the (cardamom?) ice cream that accompanies it—truly to die for!

What gets you first is the unique vintage Soviet style atmosphere. You are literally teleported back 40 plus years. From the toilets to photos on the wall, your in a tastefully done restaurant. Tasty, that’s the food, a wonderful verity of tradition classics from salads to soups to Russian kebabs and more. Drinks to desserts, and my favorite honey cake. Even the music will bring you back in time to the 60s 70s and 80s, all Russian. We will return!

I wanted, truly wanted, to give this place five stars. Mari Vanna is, without exaggeration, one of the most delicious, comforting, and beautifully executed Ukrainian/Russian meals I’ve had in a long time. The rolled eggplants were silky, rich, and perfectly balanced with that creamy cheese filling. The khachapuri? Golden, indulgent, and borderline addictive. The lamb shank fell apart like it had something to confess. The dumplings were soft, delicate, and dangerously easy to keep ordering. And the borscht… deep, soulful, the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-conversation and just… respect it. And then there’s Nelly. Nelly is exceptional. Warm, intuitive, effortlessly charming. She doesn’t just serve you, she hosts you. The kind of person who makes you feel like the restaurant is running because you walked in. If this review were based solely on Nelly and the kitchen, I’d already be planning my birthday dinner here. But unfortunately… there’s Vlad. You don’t miss Vlad. Not physically, he looks like he could bench press the table you’re sitting at. But energy-wise, it’s a whole different experience. He moves with a kind of high-tension intensity, like everything is just slightly personal. Plates arrive with a firmness that suggests unresolved feelings. There’s eye contact that lingers, not warmly, not aggressively, just… pointedly. Like you’ve entered into a dynamic you didn’t agree to but are now somehow part of. At one point, trying to be polite, I asked for his name. Without missing a beat, he responded, “Why are you asking?”, then turned his back and walked away with the urgency and gravity of someone about to deliver the future king of a small but emotionally complicated nation. It’s a very specific energy. Polished on the outside, tightly wound underneath. The kind of presence that feels like it’s constantly performing strength while quietly asking for something else entirely. You don’t question it. You just take your dumplings and proceed carefully. Nothing was dropped. Service was technically fast. But hospitality is more than delivery, it’s atmosphere. And Vlad brings an atmosphere that, let’s say, competes with the borscht. So here we are. An incredible kitchen. A standout server in Nelly. And a dining room presence that shifts the entire tone of the experience. Two stars. Because sometimes, all it takes is one person to turn a perfect evening into a very memorable… situation. Would I return? Yes. Would I hope Nelly intercepts my food before it reaches Vlad? Also yes.

The interior decor is quite cute, great environment for birthday celebration. Food came out really quickly and the menu is very long! Grilled chicken and beef stroganoff are my favorite dishes. Don’t forget to get napoleon cake, they will sing happy birthday in Russian for you :)

I do not recommend coming here if you are POC. My friends (all of us Chinese) and I went to here recently, with lavish Eastern European decor and solid dishes. Despite the potential to be a great restaurant, its one of those restaurants where they segregated you by race. Management claims that it was "unintentional", but it’s hard to think such a coincidence when they placed us in the back section covered by a white curtain with only Asian parties.

Friend of a Farmer is a wonderfully cozy break from the chaos of New York. Stepping inside feels like being transported to a country kitchen. It’s a very charming and warm atmosphere, with attentive staff and happy patrons all around. My friend and I ordered the beet carpaccio which was garnished with herbs and blood orange slices. I ordered the french cut chicken as my main and thought it was solidly good. We didn’t want the night to end so ordered dessert which was entirely too indulgent and rich. The good news there is you could share the flourless chocolate cake with a table of 6 people and everyone would feel satisfied with 1 bite… our fault, not theirs. Overall, we were happy with our selection and would be happy to come back!

I’m now friends with Friend of a Farmer - and I can’t wait to hand with them again. What an eclectic spot, nestled in the charming Gramercy Park neighborhood of NYC. Reservations are a must, as this place is right and seating is limited. But it’s worth it. The aesthetic is 19th century New England farmhouse, so forget the dark styling and modern atmosphere that populates most of Gotham’s eateries. This place is as unique as they come. Grab a table or sit at the warm bar on the first floor. We opted for brunch, which was to die for. I had a breakfast wrap with a spicy kick and layered with sausage and egg. My wife had a full breakfast complete with eggs and pumpkin pancake, and it was all top notch. And OMG… the home fries. Boom. Service was little rustic, meaning it was slow - but we weren’t in a rush. Bathrooms are clean, so another plus. They can also fit a larger group upstairs, but I’m guessing you need advanced reservations to pull that off. Put this place on your list. A must-try.

If you’re going with a group, I’d recommend reserving the room at the entrance. It’s like a small attic room - intimate, cozy, and beautiful decor. The crostini was my favorite appetizer although the sweet potatoes were great. The chicken pot pie lived up to the hype, it’s seriously a must order here. Lastly, I recommend the crimson harvest for drinks! It’s so good!

Drinks: 9/10 I’ve visited 3 times. I typically have water or French press coffee. I know that’s a *low* threshold but the coffee is always brewed well, not better, very smooth, and seems to be some sort of breakfast blend because it doesn’t make me jittery. I really like that! I believe the last time I visited, I ordered whatever bottled water they had available. It feels silly to *rate* water but it was fine. Service: 10/10 I’ve never had a reservation coming here but I always get a seat pretty easily. Whenever I’ve come in the host greets me immediately and gets me squared away. I’ve come during busier times and more chill times, the wait hasn’t been more than 10-15 mins. Also the servers are really sweet, knowledgeable, and seem to have amazing timing when it comes to checking in on how the meal is going. Food: 9/10 Always FRESH and the hot dishes are HOT. The entire concept is farm to table so the ingredients are seasonal which will may some dishes different from season to season. The last time I went I ordered: Rose Club - the chicken on this sandwich was really juicy and the sandwich itself was pretty big so I saved half. The fries were really crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Biscuit - I wasn’t too much of a fan of the biscuit. If it was called a “roll”, I’d be completely happy with it but it just didn’t give “biscuit”. Cornbread waffle bites topped with caviar and crème fraîche - I’ll think about this appetizer often. The cornbread waffle was delicious, crispy, the right amount of sweet and moist. The caviar was the PERFECT salty, seafood-y addition that truly is a competitor to your favorite waffle and other protein duos. Ambiance: 8/10 I will say I’ve sat outside during the warmer seasons and inside (upstairs) during the colder ones. Outdoor dinning was perfectly fine, nothing stands out in my memory about it being exceptional or unfavorable. Dining indoors is bit cramped however I feel like it does add to a certain coziness level in the space. They also have it decorated for the seasons with a working fireplace upstairs that adds a certain life to the space. Overall: 9/10 I love this place and I’ll return. I can always look forward to consistently good service, fresh/delicious food and a bit of a rotating menu that compliments the season. You really can’t go wrong with that.

Friend of a Farmer is one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is beautiful with such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere😊 The staff is always very kind and attentive, and I especially want to mention my server today, Terrence, who was wonderful. My favorite dish is the Boomer Special — I always choose the French toast and sausage. It never disappoints! I highly recommend this place for any occasion ❤️

the pizza was pretty good. i got the meat lovers, and my family got some other kinds like plain, pepperoni, marguerita, etc. they all said it was pretty good too. however, my sister summed up my own feelings when she said, "it's good, but i've had better." it's a pretty decent pizza joint, and that's as much as i can say about it. would i come back if it was on the way to my destination? yeah, totally. would i recommend it to someone? probably not. would i go out of my way to come back? no.

Typical New York style pizzeria. Easy to see off of Park Avenue. Several locations around NYC. On the expensive side so bring your credit cards 💳. Cash 💵 Discount. We were here on 6/28/2026 & the front door was stuck closed. The air conditioning was not working so it was hot 🥵 inside. The pizza 🍕 is decent. Give this place a try and you decide. We will most likely be going back. Thank you to the owner for responding. We look forward to patronizing your establishment again. ESJ

Looking for a quick quiet spot to grab a bit to eat… this is the place. Pizzas are delicious, pastas made to order all for a great price. And the atmosphere can be whatever you make it group meals, cozy date night, dropping in for a bite whatever you want it to be. Try everything is my personal preference!
