There’s something sacred about dim sum that’s made by hand. Each pleat, fold, and tuck carries generations of tradition. And at Jing Fong, nestled in the heart of Chinatown since the 1970s, that tradition is still alive and steaming.
They’ve been serving all the dim sum staples, but with one key difference: every dumpling is handmade—not machine-stamped or factory-frozen. A team of 15 seasoned dim sum and kitchen chefs, each with years of muscle memory, shape every har gao and siu mai with practiced precision.
On this visit, we ordered the classics: har gao, siu mai, chicken feet, fun gaw, rice rolls, bean curd pork rolls, and spareribs. The beef cheung fun was perfectly rolled (not scraped) silky, slick, and just chewy enough. Each bite delivered that nostalgic, springy bounce. We also had to try the pineapple BBQ pork bun, and it could definitely give Mei Lai Wah a run for its money: fluffy, warm, lightly crisp on top, and stuffed with sweet-savory char siu. The best part? No long line. My favorite was the salted egg yolk bun, served steaming hot, with a rich, golden custard that oozed out in decadent delight.
The beef chow fun was textbook wok hei. Smoky, not oily, and gone in minutes. And the salt and pepper squid? Lightly battered, crisp, with just a hint of hot pepper and five-spice. You could tell they used fresh oil by the light, clean color of the fry. We were also recommended the double crispy fried rice, a popular item with a clever spin on tradition. Crunchy, flavorful, and a surprising highlight of the meal.
There’s a quiet sadness though. As delicious as everything was, you can’t help but wonder how long this artistry will last. The next generation doesn’t seem eager to learn the craft, and places like Jing Fong are few and far between. I hope the current owner finds a way to preserve both the food and the spirit behind it—because this isn’t just lunch. It’s Hong Kong on a plate. It’s history. And it deserves to stick around.

Jing Fong, a classic dim sum establishment, brings the flavors of Chinatown to the Upper West Side with its authentic offerings. Known for its long-standing reputation, this restaurant offers a nostalgic dining experience that stays true to its roots.
During a recent dinner visit, I explored a variety of classic dim sum dishes, all served piping hot and skillfully prepared. Among the highlights were the shrimp dumplings (har gow), which were delicately wrapped and bursting with fresh, flavorful filling. The rice rolls, with their silky texture and savory soy-based sauce, also stood out as exceptional. For dessert, the sesame balls provided a delightful conclusion—crispy on the outside, soft and sweet within, and a refreshing contrast to the savory courses.
While the décor and ambiance may feel a bit dated, the focus here is unmistakably on the food. Its convenient location makes it an accessible destination for those seeking an authentic Chinese dining experience in the neighborhood. Jing Fong UWS delivers satisfying and traditional dim sum dishes that are well worth a visit.

A perfect authenticity between traditional chinese flavors and americanized dish items. Easily the best sesame chicken I've had in the city, and the chow fun noodles are thick cut with perfect texture combination between meat, veggie, and carb. Top 3 chinese eatery for me.

Delicious Dim Sum in the UWS. Convenient for location and want to eat Dim Sum. I love my collagen (Chicken Feet)!

We looked for a good dim sum restaurant before going to the Natural History Museum and found one on Google. However, the food was not exceptional, and nothing really stood out. We have had better dim sum in other places. The service was decent, and so was the atmosphere.

Sarabeth’s is the sparkling treasure of the Upper West Side! The staff are so loving and attentive, the space is gorgeous, and the food is always perfection! We recently went for a special get together and had the best time! This is my go-to brunch spot. Go to there!

This is a great place to have brunch on the weekends and enjoy it with family or friends.
The dishes are well served and very tasty, the recipe for the riccota lemon pancakes is a bit different than the first time I tried them, maybe less moist, but still good flavor. About the place, it is a classic NY place, however, they could take better care of the bathrooms.
The attention and service of the waiter who served us stands out; very friendly and willing to answer questions and make recommendations (essential when you have children with you).
In general, a pleasant experience.

Sarabeth’s Upper West Side serves up a great breakfast. The menu has the usual suspects for an American style breakfast. Omelettes packed with cheese along with vegetables and meats depending on the order. Service courteous and prompt. If your cell phone isn’t working, you can make a call from the pay phone in the basement. Do have some gluten free options.

It's a very kindly and local place to see your sports. It serves beers and wings with some sides. The wings was very nice but not the best I have ever ate. The stuff was great and polite!!

Wings 10/10 ! Fried to perfection and tossed in a spicy sauce. Fried onions were nice and crispy. Margarita was shaken properly. Seemed like a nice lowkey place with good service.

Recommended for wings, sports and groups! This is a great local establishment, it is relaxed, tons of seating (with a backroom) and leaps of TVs to watch any game that's on (ask the friendly staff for your pick!). The wings continue to be crispy. The bucket of 50 you can split into 2 flavors, we did mild and medium, but so many more and spicy levels. We enjoyed the new fried cheese curds, omg the aioli sauce is the best, sweet potato fries, soft pretzels and chicken fingers. Enjoy, I always look forward to coming back here!!

Have been coming here 10+ years and the wings never disappoint. For wing lovers who want the full breakdown - always super crispy - not dry which is the most important. Great sauce to wing ratio and they’re fresh, never soggy. Dine in is always better than take out (this is a general rule for wings) and they have a large scale of heat levels to choose from. A bit pricey but worth it - the more you buy, the better the deal (ranges from 10-full buckets etc.
Otherwise - staff is friendly and the big scale sports games are usually on all the time, if not, there’s music playing. They have wing specials throughout the week and a pretty extensive menu outside of wings as well. You can sit at the bar or at tables, nothing fancy but that’s part of the charm.

From the moment I walked through the door, I was treated so fantastic by everyone who worked there. The host Jill made me feel welcome and special. I was able to watch the Mets and basketball at the same time. The place was totally packed, yet my waitress brought me a taste of an amazing ipa and the best wings in NYC. Stephanie and Chloe never let my beer go empty. Amazing experience in every way. Highly recommended.

Sometimes there is a bit of a wait on the weekends but this and the other location on Lexington is my favorite brunch in the city. Service is always quick and kind.
Stick with the South Indian classics and you can’t go wrong!
Dosas, chutneys, and sambar are consistently well executed and have great flavor. The potato filling is also excellent.
Some favorites: chili onion Rava dosa, Masala dosa, potato bonda, onion bajji, and mini idli 🧡 great for vegans - everything is clearly labeled !

They have actually made efforts to up their food serving with better quantity & quality. The dosas have gone bigger with loads of chutney & masala fillings. Mysore sada and mendu vada are my choices. Food is always served fresh piping hot and tastes delicious 😋 On my recent visit they have renovated the whole restaurant for better seating & Ambience.

This place is always packed but table service or bar service is always excellent. They treat you right. The wings are big and bountiful. The burgers are great and really good drinks. I wasn’t impressed with the quesadillas though. Not enough filling.

Very busy, fairly unremarkable bar/restaurant that’s been around for many years. Decent drinks, beer and food. Bartenders not so communicative. Food was okay but not terrific. Three bathrooms, which was nice; no waiting. Asked to pay cash, but by the time I got back from the bathroom a different bartender had already swooped up and charged by credit card. Extra 3%. No big deal, but still…

Came here for drinks with good people after striking down a show and I had a great time here. Gary is super cool and took good care of us. The industrial IPA he introduced me to was delicious. The kitchen was closed, but we were able to bring in a salad and get some Wendy's delivered there. -The full NYC experience :)

We ordered from here a few times because it was nearby. Everything we had was delicious. I would recommend ordering the pulled pork sandwich and add Cole slaw. The Cole slaw was unique with added dill and I was dubious as first, but it turned out to be delish.

Terrific food. My favorite is quiche with vegan cashew cheese. Comes with a green salad with pieces of apple, pear, orange which beautifully refreshes the yummy quiche. Huge variety of cakes. My favorite is lime cake. Music in the background is easy jazzy music and not interfering if you come for a chat meeting.

Absolutely loved this place. We came to NYC just to try some vegan restaurants and this one was the highlight. The biscuits are fantastic!! We took some home for breakfast the next day and they still tasted good the next day. The pan seared "steak" was very good, and the side of green beans was good as well, especially since I'm not a huge green bean fan. We had a strawberry shortcake scone and it was so tasty. Server was very kind. Loved the sign that advocates for fur free living.

This was my first time at this location. The menu seems to be identical to the downtown location. The food was good but I like the downtown location better - this one is much smaller, pretty loud and felt cramped since the tables are so close to each other.
We had soups, sandwich, rice bowl and chocolate cake. Very nice and the cake wasn’t overly sweet, just right.

I have loved this place for years, soups, fresh vegetables, even desserts. Tons of flavor! Chickpea fries are always a must. Today’s soup of the day was delicious, lentil and kale. Not pic my fav dessert, a raw cacao mousse slice of heaven.

We (group 4) walked in and were the only people in the bar. They were playing Disney music really loud, we asked to turn it down (as we were the only customers) which the bar maid did…but then sneakily turned it back up again a few minutes later. We ordered 4 draft beers which were only ‘cool’ not ‘cold’ and didn’t taste great either.
The wings we ordered were good…that’s the only thing that got these 2 stars.
All in all, not a great experience.

Don’t expect anything memorable. It’s a run-of-the-mill bar—music’s not great and a little too loud. If you’re looking to have a heart-to-heart with a friend—maybe he’s going through something and needs a shoulder to cry on—look elsewhere for something more comforting.
If you’re a tourist looking for an experience, you won’t find it here. But if you’re a local, happen to be on Amsterdam Ave, need a cold beer, and don’t mind a bit of a bro vibe and a bartender who might slightly ignore you (but not in a charming, alluring way), then by all means—duck in.

Great neighborhood bar. They recently changed a lot of the staff, this is not common for a neighborhood bar, but it “corporately owned, they have 8 other bars in the city. I like it before 10-11pm and during the week because the weekends have that “bridge & tunnel , young & drunk” energy. If it’s one of those nights you want to dance or “go big” rather than “go home” it has a DJ’s and a variety of music. Tuesdays I’ve seen a live band that was really good. It’s a fun place. Wade, one of the new bartenders is awesome, and a girl with straight blonde hair, I just can’t remember her name at the moment. They work together on Tuesdays. Their food comes from Gin Mill, their sister bar down the street. Their tater tots are really good, chicken tendersare decent. Their food in general is pretty good and decent prices.

We stumbled upon this restaurant one Saturday evening. The place was empty although they’re located on a very busy strip. We decided to give them a try anyways. The staff were pleasant. The restaurant is small. There are no high chairs. The calamari was great. My toddler tried it for the first time and she loved it so that says alot. It was the perfect level of crunchiness and flavor. They serve it with a sauce that’s filled with nuts. That was “different”. It was literally more nuts than sauce lol idk. Didn’t care for that ! The thai iced tea comes in a cute cup. Loved that. The Thai fried rice was very bland. Like, almost no seasoning. I decided to try something differnt than what I usually go for and so I had the duck in red curry with tomorrow’s and lychee. The presentation was nice. It came with a side of white rice. I liked the duck. Surprisingly the fresh lychee also tasted good in a meal like this. The red curry was way too potent for me. Didnt get past 3 spoonfuls.
