Was visiting Columbia for a match and found this place nearby. I didnt know at first that it was famous but wanted a nice diner type meal. It was refreshing to be in a diner with a lot of great brunch options for a reasonable price. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a roll and it was delicious for only around $6. The service was fast, even in peak brunch hours. I would definitely come back!

We had the eggs Benedict and it was pretty good. The corned beef omelette however was a little dry. Ambience is typical diner style with a bar and stools. Popular dining place for the Columbia students.

This place is super iconic because of Seinfeld, but the inside isn’t really what you’d expect — it’s different, but still feels authentic and really cool. It’s got a chill, college vibe, probably because it’s so close to Columbia University. The food was good, the service was nice, and overall it was just a really fun spot to check out.

Very quick service I went at about 9am. Had the lumberjack, eggs over easy and with pancakes. I served it with whipped butter and maple syrup. Bacon was crispy, pancakes were fluffy, eggs were runny and the sausage was bouncy. Overall very good 👍 I ordered the chocolate egg cream. It did not contain any egg or cream and tasted like watered down fizzy chocolate milkshake. For $6 it was not worth it. Hence knocked 1 star off. The lumberjack was good about $17 or so.

Visiting Tom’s Restaurant during my trip to New York was a surprisingly emotional experience. As a long-time fan of Seinfeld, standing in front of the iconic facade—unchanged since the show aired—immediately brought back memories of scenes and laughs from one of the most legendary sitcoms of all time. It felt surreal to be there in person after seeing it so many times on screen.
Beyond Seinfeld, Tom’s Restaurant holds another cultural significance—it’s famously referenced in Suzanne Vega’s song “Tom’s Diner”. Knowing that this humble little diner has inspired such pop culture moments made being there feel even more special.
Inside, the atmosphere is classic, no-frills New York diner: friendly staff, fast service, and a cozy, down-to-earth vibe. I had a simple breakfast—eggs, toast, and coffee—and it was just right. It’s not about gourmet food, it’s about the nostalgia and the feeling of being connected to something bigger than just a meal.
If you're visiting New York and have even the slightest appreciation for TV history or music, Tom’s Restaurant is absolutely worth the stop. It’s more than just a diner—it’s a piece of American pop culture that still stands strong.

The food here is just not the same as it once was. Everything looks worse than it used to, and the taste has gone downhill. The french toast barely has any egg on it, and the bread itself is way too thick and dense, which made it very bland and dry. The syrup was good, but at that point you might as well be eating plain white bread with syrup. Not worth the price.

Was greeted by a warm flood of sunlight filling the space, casting a welcoming glow that immediately set a positive tone. The ambiance was undeniably charming—a blend of natural light and thoughtful decor that seemed designed to offer diners a comforting respite. However, glancing over, I couldn’t help but notice an unsightly stack of chairs in the corner, a detail that momentarily broke the otherwise polished setting.
Service was attentive, with staff offering courteous and prompt assistance upon request. Yet, when it came to the cuisine, I found myself underwhelmed. For a restaurant of such acclaim, I expected a culinary journey marked by creativity and bold flavors. Instead, each dish, though adequately prepared, felt surprisingly ordinary, lacking the refinement and depth that would elevate the experience from pleasant to truly memorable. The coffee, too, was unexpectedly disappointing, perhaps among the most uninspiring I’ve encountered in New York—a surprising flaw for an establishment of this caliber.
While there are undeniable charms here, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the restaurant’s reputation has outpaced its reality, leaving me to wonder if the journey was justified.

This place has great service, all the servers were attentive, fast and friendly. The food however left much to be desired. The sausage was dry and the has browns lacked flavor. The pancakes were fine.

The food is good, the place is clean and service is up to par although a bit cramped. If you go there for a good meal you'll find it here at a very reasonable price. As for me, if I ever go back I'll demand to get my cup of coffee in a regular cup I just can't get over having coffee in a bowl, sorry that's not for me.

Community, for those who didn’t already know, is the sister restaurant to the famous Clinton Street Baking Co. whose pancakes continually topped the charts in the NYC. So naturally, the brunch menu is pretty bulletproof (especially the pancakes). I tried their brunch twice, and dinner menu twice, and all the time the food is good. Not as memorable as some of the iconic brunch restaurants but you got your money’s worth.
Focus on the most recent dinner here:
Appetizer:
Bowl of Beets
The name suggests simplicity, yet the flavors it delivered were more complicated and in depth. These are fresh beets with whipped goat cheese, toasted pistachios, and topped with balsamic vinegar reductions. I asked the reduction to be on the side as I am a dipper (like to dip things) who adjust my own sauciness. The ingredients were fresh, and it happened to be the beet season so the beets were naturally sweeter. The goat cheese is creamy and accompanied well with the beets and the nutty aroma of crunchy pistachios. The balsamic reduction is tangy and that acidity balances the dish.
Entrees:
Pan-seared salmon
Crispy skin with tender interior. The portion is great (the fish is bigger than I imagined). I changed the sides from mashed potato to green beans. The green beans are a little undercooked, and both the beans and the spinach are on the saltier side. I asked to have the glaze on the side because i want to taste the salmon and I don’t like overly sweetened fish. The glaze is a bit less ginger forward than I wanted, tastes more sweet than savory.
Maryland Crab cakes
Two fist-sized crab cakes with a ton of crab meat paired with GBD waffle fries and herby mayo underneath. This is the perfect bowl of comfort food if you are craving warmth. The crab cakes can be a bit stuffy due to crab meat density, but this is not a complaint as who doesn’t want more crabs in their crab cake. The fries are crispy and tantalizing on the tongue, perfect with mayonnaise sauce they provided. The lemon aids to counterbalance the flavor, and to offsets any possible greasiness.
Our server did a great job to accommodate my requests, which I do appreciate. Yet the service isn’t the best. The water initially took forever to come and the check took a little while too. Overall, the food, the value, and the proximity (near Columbia campus) deserve neighborhood people a re-visit.

We had a wonderful Easter and Birthday meal on Easter Sunday. Everything was perfect. Jason was our host and did an outstanding job. We were visiting our son and his girlfriend and it was my hubby's birthday as well. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding! We will return hopefully the next time and will ask for Jason again. If you haven't been go check out this restaurant. We sat outside and the weather was perfect!

I love going to Le Monde—it feels just like stepping into a neighborhood restaurant in France. The food is always delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and casual, which I really enjoy. Especially the mussels were really good so we ordered baguette to eat the broth. Freshly baked baguette was really good with the broth. But The fish wasn’t very fresh, so it had a slightly fishy smell. The short rib was really tender and flavorful and fries were really crispy. The texture of noodles served with short rib were soft and great with short rib’s sauce.
Duck hash for Sunday lunch was also great. Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned well. I loved it.
The servers are always friendly and welcoming. But I’ll never forget this one handsome young guy who served us once—he was chewing gum the entire time! He was witty and kind, but from start to finish, he never stopped chewing gum. I don’t think that’s appropriate behavior when serving customers at a restaurant.

Very pleasant experience! We came super hungry after a walk around Columbia’s campus and needed a warm and nice place to eat. The salads were fresh, and the escargot and crepes were tasty. Our server Eric was very friendly and gave us good recommendations and was very patient.

Visited this restaurant in the evening for dinner on a Sunday and it was packed. We reserved a table for 7.45pm but when we arrived at 7.50pm the table was just being prepared. The waiters were rather overwhelmed while we were there - with us allegedly having an appointed server but we only saw him twice in our entire time there. For the most part, we had to ask for service from other servers. Would suggest to avoid peak hours for a better experience. The food was delicious though!

The atmosphere was perfect, cozy, and inviting, with just the right balance of elegance and comfort. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we felt welcome from the moment we walked in.
However, the wait for our food was a different story. Despite the excellent service in terms of hospitality, it took an unusually long time for the duck meat to arrive. I understand that quality takes time, but the extended delay left us a bit frustrated.

The Avgolemono soup was nice way to start a meal. The only regret was that I ordered a cup rather than a bowl. The Pastitsio was reminiscent of a lasagna with prominent notes of cinnamon and other spices.
The dining area exuded a warm inviting feeling that made me feel welcome. The staff was also nice.

We had dinner at Symposium for the first time tonight and everything was wonderful. Our favorites were the octopus, the mezze sampler (especially the tirokafteri), and the classic moussaka. The flavors had the perfect home cooked depth, true Greek classics.
The vibe is homey and cozy, great for a group of friends or families. We had the nicest servers, Alex and Elena, and we appreciated their hospitality.
The portion sizes were also generous and even though we were stuffed I’m glad we made room for dessert and Greek coffee- definitely recommend the galaktoboureko.
We will be coming back for sure!

Cute and cozy. We were there late, so it was empty inside. Every dish we ordered was amazing and we shared it all. Had a couple of bottles of wine that they got for us even though it was close to closing. We rushed ourselves out so they weren’t waiting on us, but we never felt rushed by the staff. Again, delicious food ! Kind staff.

10/10 so good. Jake was an AMAZING servicer. Loved the chips & guac app, we got yummy mini margaritas, I got the chicken burrito (mind blowingly good) and my friend got the burger. So delicious.
One thing to note, they have rooftop seating but it might not be what you expect. The walls are higher, so you don’t really have a great view. But it was still nice to be outside

I come from Europe, and crepe is something i eat regularly. I ordered a pesto mozzarella crêpe and cappuccino with oatmilk here. The coffee was ok. The crepe was mediocre, thick, soggy (very watery underneath), and not tasty. Using plastic utensils, paper plates, and cups is very annoying, especially when you're eating something wet. It feels you're getting bits of the paper plate in each bite. Atmosphere ok, Staff were friendly.

TDLR: Common Ferris is better
Wide variety of AYCE food for in and out of campus consumers. They have a diverse menu that rotates on a daily basis with a stupendous drink selection! They boast a vegan section, salad/fruit bar, desert section, pasta, and proteins.
However, the food can get boring. The only protein they really serve is chicken and they reuse/reheat baked goods from days ago.
The dining hall fashions a quaint design and many dubbed it the Harry Potter hall. Yet, the hall is just so humid and sticky most of the time. There’s no AC and there’s like random power fans that’ll blow your wig and plate away everytime you walk past it 👎
FSCI NSLC thanks for reminding me to review this place 😂

The food was fantastic and for VERY affordable prices (for non- students such as perspectives too!) They were very nice there and the cashier guided me to all my needs. They supply incredible Star K kosher food as well! Sadly even though the hall was packed it seemed as if everyone were very isolated from one another, like everyone tried to be alone.

I really enjoy eating here. It's buffet style, so you can eat as much as you want. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They serve all types of different foods for halal, vegan, kosher and other speciality eaters. My only complaint is that you need to go at certain times since it can get very crowded.

While visiting Columbia University, I stopped by Milano Market Westside for a quick bite—and I’m so glad I did. Tucked away right next to campus, this place is a classic New York-style deli with an impressive selection of fresh, made-to-order sandwiches and hot dishes.
I ordered the tomato soup and a chicken parm sandwich, and both were excellent. The soup was rich, flavorful, and comforting—perfect for a chilly afternoon. The chicken parm sandwich was crispy, cheesy, and just the right amount of indulgent. You can really tell they care about quality and ingredients.
The vibe inside was lively but friendly, with lots of students and locals dropping in. It’s one of those spots that feels fast-paced but still warm and personal.
If you’re in the area—whether you’re visiting Columbia, exploring Morningside Heights, or just craving a great sandwich—Milano Market is definitely worth a stop. It’s the kind of place you wish you had in your own neighborhood.

Best sandwich in Morningside Heights. The bread is simply phenomenal. Get a hero and eat it on the steps of Low Library.
I tried the Triple S Chicken Parm on the recommendation of one of the guys behind the counter, and it was excellent. However, my girlfriend got some kind of pesto chicken sandwich on a separate visit, and that one was easily my favorite. I need to go back and find out what sandwich that was.

A Taste of Old-School Italy in the Heart of NYC!
Milano Market Westside is a place that takes you back in time. I was truly curious to try it, and stepping inside felt like walking into one of those classic Italian delis that were all the rage in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. It instantly reminded me of the kind of places any Italian, myself included, grew up with.
The more I look around the more this place feels like a paradise! My actual exclamation as I started to realize where I was is “I’m in Heaven right now!”.
Now, let’s talk sandwiches, because Milano Market is the place you wanna go for.
I had 3, and each was a masterpiece. THE EGGPLANT with vodka sauce was pure comfort, packed with layers of Black Forest ham, ricotta, kalamata olives, pesto, and basil, all melting in perfect harmony! Then came THE BRUTUS, a bold, flavor-packed beast with sopressata, mortadella, prosciutto, mozzarella, ricotta, Parmigiano, arugula, and a touch of balsamic glaze. Delisciousness on a sandwich! A must-try for those with a serious appetite. And finally, the PROSCIUTTO CAMPANA, a heavenly combo of prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, arugula, sun-dried peppers, and balsamic glaze. Simply out of this world!
They use top-quality ingredients, many of them imported straight from Italy. The staff is excellent and incredibly fast, making the experience even better. And then there’s Camillo, a friendly, charismatic host who adds even more charm to the atmosphere. Beyond the food, the ambiance and location Camillo, along with his guys, are making the experience even better, a truly remarkable one.
He’s friendly, easygoing, and always up for a great chat!
Everything about Milano Market feels like a direct trip to Italy, from the products on the shelves (some woke up so many memories from my childhood!) to the flavors in every bite. Simply outstanding on all fronts.
Walking into Milano Market Westside is like stepping into a classic Italian deli, warm, nostalgic, and full of incredible aromas.
The first bite of my sandwich instantly transported me back to my childhood, reminding me of the afternoon sandwiches my grandma used to make when I lived with her.
This place isn’t just about food, it’s about memories. Genuine, authentic, fresh, welcoming and friendly!
Milano Market isn’t just a deli, it’s a trip to Italy, one unforgettable sandwich at a time.
I can’t wait to work my way through their massive, mouthwatering menu!

Most of the food is average or sometimes above average for lunch and dinner. BEWARE OF THE PASTA! It is tasteless and you can only stomach it by dousing it with salt repeatedly. The workers are nice and good people. Overall I have had good experiences, but be on alert!

Ferris, while pretty small, is a nice dining hall that is great for everything from a quick bite to eat to a more extensive meal. They offer meals for a variety of diets and have both self-serve and action stations where they make specific dishes for you. I like their made-to-order but omelettes for breakfast and love it when they offer stir fry (occasional).

Ferris Forever, out of all the dining halls on campus this is a solid choice. Although there are places like Brownies Cafe which serve fantastic sandwiches or the food trucks along Broadway, Ferris is an undergrad staple (esp since you can take food out on the disposable plates and take cups, bananas, and other things on the dl). Staff is always nice; food is good and all you can eat.
