We were super happy to find this traditional informal beer hall. It was exactly what I was looking for in Berlin - lively recorded German music, good beer, decent goulash and beef consommé and moderate pricing. However, when we went back the second time, the waitress chose the tip percentage for me which I did not appreciate. I felt taken advantage of due to the language barrier.

This is my 3rd time dining here in this restaurant. Visited today evening for dinner around 6.30pm (10th Nov 2025) I must agree that the food is super authentic and delicious. However service is horrendous. We were very unfortunate to be served by the manager of the restaurant (a tall big guy with glasses). When we gave our order, we said we will share our roasted pork knuckle because the serving is way too big for one person. He then replied "if you need extra plate and cutleries we will charge you extra 7.50 Euro". I explained to him that we do not need to have extra plate or cutleries because we both can share the dish and use the same cutleries. He looked at us with a discriminative facial expression. He could have just acknowledge my request and move on. Why would I pay you additional 7.50 Euro for extra plate and cutleries AUGUSTINER????? This represent your greediness in money making business. It doesn't make sense at all ...! I ordered extra maiyonnes on the side and it didn't come until I reminded a waiter and the manager brought the item to our table without basic manners of saying "sorry for the delay" and threw the sauce on our table. How despicable of him being in customer service industry! Before I pay my bill, I informed another staff to get me the supervisor or manager because I would like to have a word with him/her and to my surprise, the guy I despise was the manager. I told him that I did not enjoy his hospitality and service at all. I shut him off immediately because I cannot bare to speak to and look at a person who doesn't value his customers. He then said "WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR ME IF YOU DONT WANT TO TALK TO ME?". I replied if I knew you were the manager, I would not have asked for you in the first place. I further requested him by saying pls get someone else to bring me the bill but not him! Congratulations AUGUSTINER for having staff like this. Basic courtesy is so basic that your own manager is lack off. I would have not create a scene if he is friendly and approachable. Good luck to your business!

Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt is a must-visit in Berlin! I stopped in for a few beers and they were absolutely fantastic and fresh, perfectly poured, and full of flavor. The atmosphere is warm and lively, with that classic Bavarian charm right in the heart of the city. The service was spectacular, all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. If you’re in Berlin and love great beer, this place won’t disappoint! 🍻

A great spot right in the heart of Berlin with a pleasant view and authentic Bavarian atmosphere. Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt offers a truly traditional beer garden experience, perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy classic German food and drinks in a beautiful outdoor setting.
The service was very polite and attentive — all the staff we encountered spoke English, which made ordering and asking questions very easy. The menu offers standard Bavarian fare like schnitzel, sausages, potato salad, and pretzels, accompanied by freshly tapped Augustiner beer — brewed in Munich since 1328. Everything was served fresh and quickly, and the portion sizes were generous.
One of the highlights of this place is the outdoor seating area during the summer months. With checkered blue-and-white tablecloths and plenty of shade from umbrellas, it’s a great place to relax and watch the evening go by. The view toward the Gendarmenmarkt square adds a charming atmosphere.
If you’re planning to visit in the evening, it’s definitely recommended to make a reservation, as the place fills up quickly — especially on warm nights.
All in all, a solid and satisfying place to experience Bavarian culture right in the middle of Berlin. Definitely worth a visit!

As classic as it gets. A true German restaurant in every sense. Oktoberfest atmosphere with large beer mugs that keep flowing. The Bavarian-style food is simply excellent. An outstanding place.

We made a reservation at this German restaurant for lunch. The service was okay, but our main dishes were left out initially.
The tartar and schnitzel were delicious, and the portions were generous. However, the seasonal menu of the deer was average.

Borchardt is an exceptional place to celebrate special occasions or have a date. Perfect german food, made of high-quality ingredients, in combination with sweet cocktail and freshly-made bread will gift you one of the best gastronomical experiences of your whole life. Atmosphere is quite fancy, and the food prices are higher than in ordinary places in Berlin, and it is totally justified, given the history of the place and the level of service.
And all I would say — it is definitely worth every spent euro! I would like to visit this place one more time (or ten times more)
Would definitely recommend!
P.s. highly recommend to book a table in advance

Borchardt is a true Berlin classic! We had the Wiener Schnitzel – golden, crispy, and absolutely delicious – and the steak tartare, which had a fresh and original flavor. The atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, perfect for a relaxed evening. Prices are a bit high, but for the taste and experience, it’s definitely worth it!

Really tasty dishes, although the EUR 14 truffle extra didn’t add any flavor, and the service took a bit to warm up. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the meal.

Traditional german restaurant. Service was very nice. I had the famous veal schnitzel, with cranberries and hot potato salad. Prices on the higher end, but worth every euro.

Got the pumpkin curry with grilled salmon. It was perfectly hot and savory, a little spicy. Very good on a chilly day. Lots of other good options as well. Had the chicken sate for an appetizer, also very delicious with the peanut sauce.

Took a long time before I was served. Nice menu with plenty of options. Also nice special drinks (alcohol free). The food was OK/Good but nothing more than that. I truly enjoyed it but my overall experience was a 7 out of 10.

Great food. We ordered the letem salad (mango avocado one), Gra Pau, and Pad thai with beef (not on the menu), along with green tea.
The food was really good but the Gra Pau was not very spicy (it’s 3 spices on the menu). It was still pretty tasteful. The salad was amazing though!!
Good place if you want a good Thai meal. Service is alright (bit of time to get attention) though our servers were very sweet.

I really enjoyed the food. It tasted fresh and flavorful. I have come to this restaurant many times over the past 10 years and for the most part it has been consistent. I also enjoy the location, right at the Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of the city

This was the best meal I had in Berlin. Our server Amir was fantastic - so personable, friendly, and honestly the bright spot of my visit here! Really made my night!
The food was decent and the atmosphere was casual but also nice ( just a bit noisy due to the acoustics). I’ve attached “Before” and “After” pics of our tomahawk steak, which we finished on the hot stone! (FYI we requested the steak rare so we could cook it to our taste, so don’t be alarmed!)
Meal was 180 including a bottle of wine, tomahawk ribeye and three sides

Burger was really delicious, lots of items inside and on the side. Crispy onion, carameluzed onion, bacon, herbs, cheese and sauce, also chips on the side. Portion was big enough for an adult, could not finish.
The only point is with the steak we ordered, there was *no side veg, sauce, etc.* with fillet steak. No mushroom sauce, no veggies, nothing, and steak must go with sides.
But it was very soft and juicy.

Very calm and peaceful place to get a taste full bite of meat, also enough vegan options. Also pretty cheap for this quality of food.
Service was amazing. sweet but profesional staff!

We arrived at the restaurant as a group of nine. We were warmly welcomed with a smile and seated at a large side table. We ordered steaks, which were excellent—especially since we could control the doneness with the hot stone. The burger was decent, and even the dessert was a pleasant surprise. What truly made the experience outstanding was Daniel, our waiter, who provided quick and friendly service.

A pleasant spot to sit down for a coffee while walking through Berlin. The coffee is fairly generic and on the bitter side, but still enjoyable. Prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly.

Perfect place for a coffee/snack break
Friendly staffs but a little slow service. Outdoor seating is nice and chill.
I recommend their salad to go or the pasta. E.g. Safran Salat is very tasty.
The pizza is not the greatest, although they are handmade…

Tasty lasagna, salad and perfect cocktail. Nice way to wrap up a long day wandering the museums. Bright, comfortable and clean atmosphere. Friendly staff who were kind enough to speak English with me. Would recommend!

I’ve been to this café a few times — it’s a nice, comfortable place that makes you want to come back. The menu is quite large, with plenty of options, and takeaway is available. Service is fairly quick, and the staff are polite and friendly.
The prices are reasonable, and the food is tasty. I’ve tried the shakshuka, asparagus soup, salad, and a couple of other dishes — everything was well-prepared and served with care.
It’s a lovely café, and I’m happy to recommend it.

Oysters were fresh and served in what is possibly the cutest Octopus bowl i’ve seen yet. Harissa shrimp were wonderful, and the drinks were also top notch. Our server Armando made the evening feel special yet lowkey. Really nice experience overall 🫶🏼

A really nice evening in an impressive, spacious location in the heart of Berlin.
Excellent oysters, sensationally good fillet of beef. The apple strudel dessert was too thick in sauce for me personally.
Otherwise very fine and recommendable.
I will definitely visit the Austernbank again on my next visit to Berlin.

After several great visits to the restaurant, we went to the New Year's Eve Party. Besides the great interior (an old bank vault), good music (including amazing female singer) and very friendly servers the food was delicious as always - especially the artichoke salad with truffle and lobster - even the request for vegetarian alternative (contacting the restaurant in advance) was no problem. But in particular the host (restaurant manager) was attentive and pleasant, making this an evening/night you'll never forget. A highly recommended restaurant..

Had an amazing dinner. The waiter organized a table for me even if there weren’t any more left. I had the 500g shrimps with Aioli - which were amazing, very fresh and nice sauce😋. And Creme Brulle was very good too.
Would definitely come back for the shrimps.

It is a great place if you go for the atmosphere. There are a lot of small details of decor that catch your eye.
If you want to eat well, better skip this place. The food selection is very small. Pho is mediocre, sushi and rolls are below average. Not that they are not edible, but smaller, more pale in taste and more expensive than in a lot of places.

beautiful interior. our table was adorned with a candelabra, and the walls/shelves are decorated with artwork. everything else was mediocre and average. ok wine and food. big portions but I wish it was a smaller portion with better quality food. I had the sauerbraten with mashed potatoes and the apple strudel for dessert. nothing to write home about.

Wonderful restaurant with a long storied history located right at the back of the former Schauspielhaus by Schinkel (now Konzerthaus Berlin). My Sauerbraten was perfect. The restaurant is airy and nicely decorated with modern artworks. The service is friendly and efficient. Fabulous wine list.
