Sale e Tabacchi is a well established Italian restaurant located just near checkpoint Charlie. It has existed for over 30 years. Established in 1995.
When you go to their website, you will not find the menu because the menu is made on a daily basis. They do have regular dishes, but there’s lots of things that they add to the menu that makes it interesting every time you go there.
We had bruschetta and it looks like mozzarella, but it’s not. It’s like very creamy very tasty.
We went there because we wanted the same dish from this film, eat pray love and they gave us exactly that pasta dish you’ll see.
I was very pleased with the meal we had that evening.
The restaurant still holds the standards of the now retired manager, Nino and is carried on by my favorite waiter, Walter.
During the Berlinale many famous people go there to eat in February when this event happens with films and stuff like that here in BERLIN.
Garden area.
There’s a really nice garden area in the back where you can sit and eat and enjoy your meal in the summertime. It’s all white tablecloth stuff and the service is great.
This is why I give it five stars all the way. Besides that I’m in a big fan of the place.

Felt like a real institution from the moment wr walked in.
The serveurs switch effortlessly into Italian adding to the authentic vibe.
The dishes were tasty, true Italian flavours, perfectly executed, with pasta served al dente just as it should be.
The main room is quite large and can get a bit loud, but it also adds to the lively atmosphere.
A good spot in the Mitte neighborhood.

Overall a solid 4 stars, most of the dishes were good although a bit pricey. However, none of the dishes was extraordinary. The restaurant has an old fashion design, the tables are very close to each other and yhe acoustic is not great. Service was ok. Almost no vegan options.

Was there last night, great place! Great vibe, good food, good service. It is a bit loud, but it’s nice to see people enjoying themselves. Would it be veramente italiano if it was quiet, though? 😉

The food was amazing. I really enjoyed the story that ran through the menu and how layered the flavours of each dish were.
The flavours are not for the faint of heart. They are bold, often sour and spicy, but always balanced right at the edge, as if they're playing a little game in your mouth.
As is often the case with tasting menus, some dishes stood out more than others, and that's completely normal since taste is subjective. For example, we would have loved a bit more of the mango sauce to better balance the spiciness of the wasabi in one of the dishes.
It's difficult to pick a clear highlight. However, the roasted walnut with duck liver in the first complimentary amuse-bouche, the surprising twist of the sauerkraut fish dish with green thai chilli, and the incredible duck trio—especially the comforting consommé, will stay rent-free in my head.
Surprisingly, we were quite disappointed with the coffee and tea. Although the white tea came with a fancy description, it tasted very basic, and the delicate, slightly sweet notes that white tea usually has were completely lost. I noticed the water was quite hot, which may have been one of the reasons, as white tea is generally best brewed below boiling temperature. We finished it simply to warm our stomachs, but it wasn't particularly enjoyable.
We also had mixed feelings about parts of the service. Don't get me wrong, everyone was professionally polite, but at times we sensed a slightly off atmosphere from some of the staff. On the other hand, the person taking care of the cutlery was an absolute delight. The warmest person in the room.
Although the visit wasn't perfect, the overall impression left by the dishes and the creativity and complexity behind them was outstanding. It's a restaurant I would happily revisit.

Great place to have dinner - great service, very spicy, sauer and salty. Absolute recommend. We had to wait inbetween some courses but the very friendly staff created a wonderful evening for us!

Absolutely stunning.
I was supposed to go 6 years ago after a visit to Noma, and then pandemic happened...
Fast forward to last night and I had a truly lasting experience.
From arrival to exit, it was seamless. Each dishes were accompanied by some of the most delicious wines and explained with rigour and knowledge.
Many thanks to every single member of the team with all my heart.

Impeccable hospitality, creative Asian inspired menu, amazing wine cellar!!
I had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Tim Raue, in May 2025. They were extremely accommodating of a reservation made on short notice. They were also very accommodating of my 7 year old son, who’s list of Michelin restaurant experiences is impressive and by no means his first experience. As I stated above the hospitality was world class. The food was exciting, incredibly tasty but approachable, and the wine cellar is incredible. I will definitely go back.

So French, you may almost feel transported to a Brasserie in Paris, except the service is friendlier than in Paris!
Every single dish was cooked to perfection, but the entrecôte of course topped it all!
The chocolate mousse is to die for!

We had a great experience at Entrecôte in Berlin. We tried their steak and dessert, and both were excellent, high quality and perfectly prepared. The service was attentive and professional, and the atmosphere was really pleasant. Overall, we were very satisfied and would definitely come back again.

Please make sure you have a reservation ahead. It feels overcrowded given how small the place is, with small tables and seating that puts you right next to strangers. However, the service was excellent (especially for Germany), and the food was great, though it comes with a hefty bill.

Nice restaurant. I recommend to book in advance. We were lucky to have a table for 3. Portions are nice size.
Bar waiting area is small.

We had such a wonderful experience at Entrecôte. The service was outstanding, attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere truly makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a Parisian bistro. The foie gras instantly transported me back to one of my trips to Paris, absolutely perfect. The escargots were beautifully prepared and full of flavor, a must-try. We also had the carpaccio and the classic steak frites, both delicious and cooked to perfection. Everything we ordered exceeded expectations. Highly recommend stopping by this beautiful restaurant if you’re in the neighborhood—you’ll leave already wanting to come back.

Had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. Despite my sister and I arriving as the kitchen was closing they still looked after us. The waiter was lovely and accommodating. He checked in a number of times and provided great service. As well as the great atmosphere and staff; the food was absolutely excellent. One of the best steaks I've had and cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area!

Great place for meat lovers! I had a 300g rib eye with porto souce and grilled veggies as a side dish, and a cheesecake. The meat was very juicy and perfectly cooked to medium rare. Veggies, souce, cheesecake, everything was 10 of 10!
Special thanks to Marvin & Pablo, they are managing the whole place just two of them, byt they are taking such a great care of their guests!

you are welcomed with warmth and you get the feeling that they are happy that you came. the steak was perfectly cooked, juicy, tender and tasted wonderful. their pepper sauce is a must-try, wonderfully strong. their small potatoes tasted great. their bearnaise sauce was just as bad as the pepper sauce was good. we sat right under a speaker so it was a bit loud music. all in all a really good experience that you should give yourself. can be recommended

It’s such a wonderful place, we stumbled upon this place while craving pizza and pasta, and as vegetarians, we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to cater to our dietary preferences. We got an orange sauce penne pasta and omg it was so good. Hope they add it to the menu! We got a customized vegetarian pizza and that was amazing as well. Light and airy. Highly recommend this place!!

This was the first meal we had here in Berlin, and honestly Italian food is my favorite. La Via Del Muro is one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to. The food is absolutely delicious. We ended up coming here twice during our trip. We had the tagliatelle with ragu sauce, the Margherita pizza, and crème brûlée for dessert. Everything was 10/10. Super tasty.
The service was amazing too! Professional, kind, and super welcoming. Adem was our waiter and he’s the best. Grazie mille!
Can’t wait to come back for sure!

Mamma Mia! What an Italian restaurant.
It was completely full on a Wednesday night, which already tells you a lot about its popularity. Despite the crowd, I was lucky enough to be accommodated for one hour, and from the first moment, I knew it would be worth it.
This was probably one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten — and that includes pizzas I’ve tried in Italy 🇮🇹. The crust was simply perfect: light, crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of flavor. The scampi complemented the pizza beautifully, working in harmony with the rich and well-balanced tomato sauce. Every bite felt carefully prepared and thoughtfully combined.
I started my meal with a tomato 🍅 soup, which was also excellent. It was fresh, warm, and comforting, with a natural tomato taste that showed the quality of the ingredients.
I must compliment the restaurant not only on the outstanding food, but also on the high standard of their well-trained service staff. They operate like a beehive — nonstop, organized, quiet, and highly efficient — yet always polite and attentive. You feel welcomed without being disturbed.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very special: simple, elegant, and cozy at the same time. It creates the perfect setting for enjoying good food and good company.
I strongly recommend this place to anyone living in Berlin or visiting the city. It is truly a gem.
The last photo is of my empty pizza 🍕 plate — I enjoyed every single bite, including the delicious crust!

I love the Ishin on Charlottenstraße. It has long been a favourite of mine. Out of moderately priced sushi establishments, it has to be one of the best, not only in Berlin but in the whole of Europe! Oh, how I wish Mr. Ishin would open a branch in London too!!!

Food is very fresh, delicious and prices are good. However, depending on the time of your visit you might need to wait as there’s just 1 waiter 🥲 if it’s a big group (more than 3people) I’d recommend less busy times

Fantastic whether the food, the quality ,the value for money will have to visit again whenever I'm in Berlin.

The best place in Berlin if you’re looking for affordable sushi, especially during happy hour when there’s a discount for combo sushi.
The sushi is fresh, the menu has plenty of options, and it tastes good. The service is fast. The restaurant’s interior is so-so and feels busy since it’s always crowded whenever I visit. Expect a long queue if you come during lunchtime.

Hip looking cafe that is a great option for breakfast or break time. It is nicely decorated for some selfie time as well. Staff are really friendly too.
Outdoor seating is available for people watching 😛 Free wifi is available as well.
However, the washroom is 50 euro cents thou.

Tuens out Germans can make really good sandwiches. Found this place right next to checkpoint Charlie, next door to McDonald’s and it’s actually cheap in a touristic area. Sandwiches are tasty and super fresh. Large place lots of seating, good place to sit downstairs or upstairs for a break as you wander through.

What an evening! Very nice atmosphere, Billy is a great host! His team cooked to perfection and the somm helped us to find the perfect wine from an outstanding menu - a great, Berlin style restaurant. Absolute recommend!

It was an Intresting experience but unfortunately the food did not met my expectations in terms of creativity flavor and preparation. It was good but far from what i would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Most importantly the menu is vary overpriced for what you get. I asked without gluten and i only got 1 protein dish with a vary tiny piece of chicken. I think the most amazing feeling after a Michelin is when you pay without even caring because of how amazing was the experience, unfortunately I felt completely the opposite this time and so the need to post the review.

Absolutely delicious and not to be missed. The team is fun enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The price fixe menu is plentiful (an amazing thing for this type of restaurant! And an incredible price point for this level of dining). The courses are delicious rich in flavors and thoughtful. The wine selections are extensive and the sommeliers (thank you Greta!) are knowledgeable to pair with your taste and the dish flavors. The ambiance is lovely and the large counter with mood lighting and lovely background music. Well worth the visit!!

Some restaurants really take on the personality of their owners and this is certainly one of those places. I had the pleasure of dining here 3 times. Twice in April 2025 and once in June 2025. All 3 dinners were memorable. The service and hospitality are exceptional. The wine list is a 200 page book that even the most experienced wine connoisseur will find stuff they have never drank. The food is all sourced from the region around Berlin. No lemon, pepper, olive oil, blue fin, Japanese Wagyu etc. eclectic Records play on a turntable at the bar. You can’t take pictures of the food but you can take photos of the records and the wine. I highly recommend coming for the experience. The wine bottles posted are from two separate dinners.
